"D-dammit! I t-think...I'm in l-love with y-you too!"

Lee Hyukjae blinks his eyes, didn't move an inch because he might wake up from this dream. But, he knew it wasn't like that. He already woke up earlier, took a bath, eat his breakfast before going to school. He's not dreaming right now. He can smell the rusty smell of old rotten metal desks and chairs mound up at the back of the school building; the smell of wet soil on the slightly muddy ground due to the light rain earlier this morning and how cold the wall on his back after he got pinned unwanted.

"A-answer me?! Don't you have anything to say to me? I thought you said you love me?!"

Hyukjae gasps as his body shakes and the grip on his shoulder become tighter. Of course, how could he ever forget? He dared this person in front of him. He remembered the time he confessed to this guy. He clearly remembered as if it just happened yesterday. He still remember how fast his heart beating that time. How sweaty and cold his hands were. How hot and red his face was. How his lips shakily spilled the words out from his mouth. He can still remember the cold gush of wind that night and the fireworks lighting up the night sky. It was during the festival and he wore the clothes he kept in the closet to wear on that very day. He planned to confess a year ago so, Hyukjae never forgets. He thought confessing at the festival will be a good luck but, the result made his heart broken and shattered. This person in front of him now rejected and even laughed at him. Hyukjae got depressed and so he spilled a curse to him to somewhat stop his heart from breaking for a little while.

"I gave you my heart but you didn't spare it a glance and even break it in front of me. I love you Donghae but you wasted it away. One day, you'll see your own mistake and regret this day and the days that will pass. A high and mighty like you will fall and I will make sure I'll return everything you did for me today."

"Are you daring me? I won't falter. I will never fall."

"Yeah...but you will absolutely fall differently. And you will never expect how you will fall."

Here he is now, standing in front of him. Hyukjae never thought his words will come true. After saying those words to Donghae, he heard a rumble of thunder and thick black clouds covered the place. Running back from his house, the rain shared his pain and mixes with his tears pouring down his eyes like waterfall. He was hurt, deeply hurt. He didn't know how he could live his life the next day. He blamed himself from falling from Donghae. He blamed his heart for still beating from the guy even though he isn't worth it.

How could he love someone like Donghae who doesn't want to step down from his throne and experience the feeling of being outside his kingdom and enjoy the fresh air and beautiful scenery? He didn't get Donghae and what he's thinking. He absolutely can't read his mind. But, someone told him something Donghae only kept to himself. Kyuhyun gave him a little piece of Donghae and after tasting it, he understand a little of Donghae.

Donghae lost his father and he left his home to live alone. Donghae created his own throne to manipulate his surroundings according to what he wants them to be. Being a king of his own, he protected himself from getting sympathy because sympathy would never bring back his already shattered heart back into shape. The only person who understands him left him so soon. Kyuhyun was the second person to get close to Donghae and he sometimes opens up to Kyuhyun so, as much as possible his friend is trying his best to be with the broken Donghae and somewhat heal him by being with him all the time.

Hyukjae finally understands now that he wasn't the only one who shed in the rain when he felt the pain creeping again. Donghae was also crying in the rain. And that makes Hyukjae falls for this guy even more. And he knew deep in his heart, he will never resent Donghae for doing this to him. He loves Donghae that much. So, he made another plan. Hyukjae wants Donghae to fall in love with him. It's not easy but he has to try. If it works, then it works. But Hyukjae will never give up this time because he'll keep on trying even if he'll die trying.

Hyukjae made everything. He let Donghae see him, hear him, touch him. Even though he was always been pushed, shoved and kicked, he never gives up. Hyukjae love him this much. But, there are times when a heart reeks in pain and the wounds starts opening once again because Donghae gave him another wound to bear: jealousy. Hyukjae witnessed how two people kissing each other made him felt like tasting hell. It tasted so bad he wanted to puke his heart out.

He had enough. His heart doesn't have any place to put another scar, another wound, another pain. Hyukjae's heart wants to give up and retreat. He can't take fighting all alone in the battlefield, killing Donghae's army. He's already tired. The time is running out for him and so, his body is fading fast and falling apart. His knees gave up on him and so he was knelt on the ground. His upper body followed and closes his eyes in defeat.

When Hyukjae came to school again, he was a different person as if he had lost his soul and is now a walking dead. Hyukjae lifelessly walk, write, eat and walk again in school without a soul before Donghae's touch brought him back to life. And Hyukjae got back from his senses while staring still on Donghae's face.

Hyukjae's hands then move and touch Donghae's cheeks which made the latter twitch from the sudden touch.

"Are you...whole now?"

Donghae looks at Hyukjae confusedly.

"I...no, n-not yet."

Hyukjae continue to Donghae's cheeks.

"I'm sorry..."

"Don't be sorry! You cursed me and you should take responsibility for it!"

Donghae said in rage.

Hyukjae becomes teary and shakes his head.

"I...already give up--"

"NO! You can't give up on me yet! I'm sorry, okay?! I wasn't thinking straight that time! I thought that I was the only one who’s broken but...I made your heart broken."

Hyukjae's tears then started to fall one after another.

"Now you understand the feeling of being broken and breaking someone's heart...what should you do now?"

"I'll...mend yours because you're mending mine."

Hyukjae nodded and weakly smile.

"Make it soon, ne? My heart might not take another pain anymore."

This time, Donghae nodded and wipes away Hyukjae's tears on his cheeks.

"It won't take long. I promise."

And right there and then, they shared their first kiss at the back of the school building, beside the rusty old desks and chairs and muddy ground.

Sometimes, backgrounds are not important anymore as long as you're surrounded with love that made you complete, change and be the person you wanted to be.
