Initiatives He Didn't Want To Take.

The Disadvantages of Having a Not So Dumb Boyfriend

Joonmyun sleepily rubbed his eyes as he went outside to collect the post, it was three in the afternoon and he couldn’t help but smile when he thought that tomorrow morning Yixing would be on Korean ground again, back from visiting his family in China. What made him smile more was the realization that by now he’d be with him again - he’d missed his boyfriend far too much (even if it’d only been a week and a half, and they’d gone on video chat every night), and couldn’t wait to see his reaction when he picked him and his parents up from the airport. Yixing didn’t know, but Joonmyun had organized to do so long ago.

He went inside and placed the mail on the table, sifting through to see if there was anything important, noting an unexpected envelope. He was expecting acceptance or rejection letters from the universities he’d applied to any time soon, but this was weird because he never remembered applying for Stanford. That was in America, he hadn’t applied to any American university - why would he? On first instinct he thought that maybe he should just throw it out - he couldn't say it wasn't giving him some seriously bad vibes. Sometimes the problem with Joonmyun however was the blinding curiosity that would always take over - a trait which got the better of him in some circumstances that it probably shouldn’t have. Slowly, he opened the letter, one eye open like he thought something was going to jump out, before unfolding it and scanning down the page. His eyes slowly widened as he looked at the contents. It was written firstly in English, and then in Korean underneath and considering it had his name on it, he knew it was directed at him.

At this point in time, he didn’t care what time it was for his parents. All he knew was that he needed to talk to them, because how did this happen, and more importantly, why the hell hadn’t he been told about this?

His mother picked up on the fourth ring, and he could hear the post-sleep haze in her voice. “Joonie, why are you calling so late? You know what time it is here… Get talking or I’ll hang up.”

“Mum! This is important!”

“What is so important that you ring me at this time in the morning?”

Joonmyun was getting irritated, “Why have I got an acceptance letter for Stanford?””

Joonmyun heard squeals from the end of the line, followed by the sound of his mother excitedly telling his father that he got in. “I knew it, I knew when we applied you for it that you’d get in. Now my only son is going to Stanford!” she squealed, sounding one hundred percent over the moon. “Oh, we’ve missed you so much too!”

He knew he should be happy about this - he’d gotten into one of the best universities in the world, but had he mentioned that he hadn’t applied, nor wanted to go? “Why- why didn’t you tell me about this?” he said, voice laced with agitation, although he was trying his hardest not to get angry, “You never once mentioned applying me for Stanford.”

His mother’s tone all together changed once she heard the annoyance in his voice, “Well, I guess we just kind of… Forgot? We’d mentioned you coming back here, but you could never talk about it when we tried. We took the initiative.”

“Did you ever think that this was an initiative that I didn’t want to take?”

He could hear his mother getting flustered, before all of a sudden his father was on the other side. “Joonmyun, you are coming here, and you are attending that university.”

“Dad, I don’t want to!”

“Too bad!”

Joonmyun huffed, and he felt his eyes start to well up. “Why?”

“Have you ever thought about your future?”

Joonmyun snapped, “Have you ever thought that I might be happy where I am!? That Korea's going to do me just fine?”

“Have you ever thought about who owns the house you live in?”

“But dad."

“This is not up for discussion, Joonmyun. You're coming here in three weeks - I don’t care whether you want to or not. You’re lucky they’re letting you in mid-term."

Before he could answer back, his mother was back on the line.

“I don’t want to go!”

“I’m sorry Joonie, but your father’s rules,”

“I don’t care, I don’t want to go! America isn’t my home, here is. If I have to be away in America for four years just to be a teacher, I don’t want to be one anymore. I can’t do it.”

“Just give it a chance, Joonie.”

“What am I meant to tell Yixing, mum? My boyfriend, what do I tell him?”

She froze up at the mention of his name. “He loves you, he’ll wait for you.”

“I can’t expect him to do that!”

“Please, two years study is all we ask - not even, it’s less. If you don’t like it you can transfer and go back.”

“I’m an adult, why can’t I make my own decisions?”

“Joonmyun! You will do what your father wishes and that is it. I’ll sort out your flights and message you the details. I wish there was a way we could do this that would make you happier, but you’re not going to like it at all if you don’t open your mind. This is for your future, we only have your best interests at heart.”

“Best interests? What interests?” he said, bitterly, “I don’t get how two years away from home, doing something that I could do here is in my best interests.”

Suddenly his dad was on the phone again, “Joonmyun, you will attend Stanford. I don’t care about what you think, we are doing this for you. If you don’t come, I will personally come and get you, as well as sell that house. This isn’t up for discussion.”

“But dad-"

“See you in a few weeks, son.” his father said, hanging up before his son could even finish speaking.

Joonmyun stood frozen, his phone clutched in his hand. He didn’t want this. Not at all. His face was growing wetter and wetter as he sat down, and he let out a sob as he curled into a ball against the wall and cried.

This was too much.

How was he going to tell Yixing?

. . .

That night vey same night, Joonmyun sat at his computer, video calling his boyfriend. He hadn’t the heart to tell him what he had to do online, and had decided to wait until tomorrow - not that he really wanted to do that anyway. He couldn’t help but find Yixing adorable in those same pyjamas he bought him years ago with and his fringe tied up, and didn't want to break the positive mood nor ever want to speak about it.

He tried his best to act like nothing was different, but Yixing seemed to notice something was wrong. “Joonmyun-ah, are you okay?”

“Oh yeah, I’m fine.” Joonmyun said, slightly sheepishly.

Yixing gave him a worried look- it was more than clear he didn’t believe a word. “You look like you’ve been crying…”

“I haven’t been crying, baby. I’m just tired and I miss you, that’s all.”

Yixing smiled dorkily, that dimple that made Joonmyun swoon every time it made itself known on his face. “Well good thing I’ll be back tomorrow!” he chirped, “I really miss you too…” Joonmyun smiled, and Yixing noticed how tired he looked. “Joonie, go to bed! I’ll see you tomorrow okay?”

Joonmyun let out a sigh; secretly he was glad, just because he didn’t know how much longer he could go without saying anything. “Okay Xing-Xing," he cooed, “I’ll see you tomorrow,”

“I’ll be at yours at 9, okay? Sorry you have to wake up earlier but I really need to see you and God I sound desperate right now.” he said, quite embarrassed when he finished.

Joonmyun smiled - Yixing still didn’t know he’d have to be awake earlier than that, “I wouldn’t have it any other way, I love you Yixing, see you tomorrow.”

“I love you too,” Yixing said, making a heart with his hands, “See you tomorrow!”

Joonmyun giggled to himself as he closed the chat, before putting his laptop on his bedside table, turning off the light, and snuggling into the covers. He couldn’t think of anyone he’d rather be with than Yixing, and how he was just so perfect. Now he was just worried about what would happen once Yixing found out he was moving away.

. . .

Yixing bounded out of customs, walking backwards and calling out to his parents to hurry up. His demeanor resembled another boy who had come from the same flight, except Yixing was about a meter taller and 12 years older. He couldn’t help it though; he really wanted to get home so he could get to Joonmyun’s, because one and a half weeks away from him was just too much.

“We’ll get there, we’ll get there,” his mother said, smiling. “Just turn around and walk forward.”

Yixing pouted, before turning around, and being greeted with an all-so-familiar face smiling at him. “Joonmyun?!” he screamed, catching the attention of all the airport goers as he dropped his suitcase and literally jumped on to his boyfriend, causing Joonmyun to stumble back and nearly fall over. “I missed you so much,” he whispered in Joonmyun’s ear, both legs wrapped around his waist, like a koala hanging on a tree.

“I can see that,” Joonmyun chuckled, the sound sending shivers down Yixing’s spine, “I missed you too.”

being conservative, Yixing thought as he stood up and smashed his lips on to Joonmyun’s. Maybe it should have been a bit sweeter at first, but neither of them really seemed to care - all they knew is that they missed this.

They both pulled apart, panting slightly. “People’re watching.” Joonmyun whined.

“Let them,” Yixing whispered against his lips, before pulling him into another kiss. This time it was sweeter, more like what you’d expect a reunion kiss to be like. Yixing cocked his head to the side slightly once they’d detached, a delayed realization finally clicking in. "But - why are you here?”

Joonmyun laughed, “Why wouldn’t I be here?”

Pulling away, Yixing interlaced their fingers and turned to his parents. Joonmyun blushed realizing that of course, they’d both seen their display - but hey, at least they weren’t gaping at them like all the other people in the airport.

(Except Yixing's mother who was squealing like a group of teenage girls a few meters away)

“You two knew about this?” Yixing asked, cocking his head. Both his parents just smiled in response, and Yixing picked his suitcase up again. “Why didn’t you tell me?” he huffed.

Joonmyun spoke up, “I wanted it to be a surprise. Plus, taxis are expensive and I thought it’d be nice if I dropped your parents and stuff home. You wanted to come to mine, right?”

“Yep, I’m staying over” Yixing said, snuggling into Joonmyun. His father raised an eyebrow, and his mother winked.

The group walked to Joonmyun’s car, and no sooner than later were Yixing’s parents at home, and Yixing was finally back at Joonmyun’s house.

As soon as they were through the door, Yixing pounced on Joonmyun and backed him up against the wall. Lips were on lips, and he knew the first airport kiss was nothing compared to this. He on Joonmyun’s tongue, drawing out moans from the older, before biting and pulling on his bottom lip, then letting go and trailing kisses down his neck. Joonmyun was melting in Yixing’s touches- he was doing none of the work, but it all felt so good and there was no way in hell he’d be able to bring himself to complain.

“Yixing,” Joonmyun moaned as he felt hands go up his shirt as his boyfriends mouth had attached itself to his collarbone, and and biting. “I love you, I love you so much.” he said, before Yixing once again pressed their mouths together and Joonmyun backed him up until he was on the couch. Yixing switched their positions, straddling him, before pulling his shirt up and staring. He couldn’t think of any other word to describe Joonmyun but beautiful. His faced was flushed and his hair was messy, and he couldn’t help but smile at the fact that he was the only one that’d ever seen, and would ever see him like this. He trailed a finger down Joonmyun’s abs, relishing in the smooth feeling and creases, before looking up and noticing that the man underneath him had covered his face with his hands due to embarrassment.

Promptly, Yixing pulled them off. “Don’t cover your face, I want to see you.”

“But why?” Joonmyun whined, not being able to look Yixing in the eye.

“Because you’re beautiful,” he said, brushing Joonmyun’s fringe out of his eyes, before leaning down and kissing him sweetly.

“You’re so perfect,” Joonmyun breathed once they’d pulled apart, finally looking into Yixing’s eyes. They were so full of love, and how he had managed to score someone this amazing was beyond him. All of a sudden, the memories of the previous days phone call that he had managed to push to the back of his mind since he saw Yixing came flooding back, and guilt set upon him like a wave. He had to know now. “Yixing,” he said, catching his boyfriend just as his head was tilted down to worship his body.

Yixing looked at him, head cocked to the side and eyes wide. There was something in Joonmyun’s tone, his gaze and just his general aura that made him feel more than worried and uneasy.

“There’s something I need to tell you - or show you, I guess.”

Chapter 25: This was one of the best Sulay fics I've read! I Loved all the main characters, but specially Jongin. He was just the sweetest :) I might have shed a tear more than once whilst reading it, you were just sooo good at writing the characters suffering. The storyline was good and I don't know why I thought they were gonna break-up after chapter 17, but they figured it out and I definitely screamed YAASS when Joonmyun finally was going home XD and the ending was perfect! Good job writing this!!! <3
