Everything takes time

The little things

After thinking about it on the way home Kris had decided it may not be best to bombard Luhan with visitors, after what he'd been through he thought it best to let the boy rest instead and let the others settle in after being away. The new leader was fully aware it was odd to the others to be in a new place, the group hadn't quote figured the workings if their new home yet and they were still missing some of the basics. The kitchen had only an oven, fridge and freezer so they still needed to buy a kettle, microwave and other appliances but that would have to wait. This place wasn't as big as the home Suho had found the group so the training and living area were mixed, a large corner sofa was sat against the back wall with a few chairs near and a small coffee table at the centre. The group were yet to buy a tv or anything else for entertainment but they would get to that some other time. Kris hadn't seen what the others had done with their rooms but his was still very bare, only a bed and desk in the average sized room. Besides the impersonal touch to the refurbished warehouse it had everything the group essentially needed for now and Kris was pleased enough with that.

After packing the things from his holiday away Kris walked along the hall a little to Tao's bedroom, the teen staying in the room beside his. Knocking lightly Kris waited outside the door until Tao answered it, smiling up at the older boy a little at seeing him there Tao stepped aside to let Kris into the room.

Tao had done more to make the room his own, his desk donning his laptop, some framed photos of himself and friends, a couple of posters were on the walls and Tao's wushu sticks sat on it's stand near the back of the room. Kris noticed Tao's unpacked suitcase on the boy's bed and sat next to it.

"Just wanted to check how you're doing. I'm going to get Lay back soon, I think we've got someone to save but I need him to help me figure it out."

Nodding Tao leant against his desk, looking at Kris.

"Ok, I'm fine. Just a little tired from the flight."

Kris smiled at the teen before getting out his wallet to hand Tao his bank card.

"I was thinking you and Xiumin could go out and get us all some dinner, if that's ok with you?"

Taking the bank card Tao nodded again.

"Yeah sure, should we take Chen or..?"

Shaking his head Kris stood up to leave the room.

"I'm going to ask him to keep Luhan company while I speak with Lay, I know it's getting late but I'm sure he won't mind."

Tao stayed where he was and watched Kris head away, finding it hard to not seem disappointed that Kris was walking away without so much as a hug Tao looked at the bank card in his hand and gave a short nod. Kris left the teen, closing his bedroom door behind him and walked to the room Chen and Xiumin had asked to share, he was quick speaking to the two and both were fine with doing what he asked. After a short phone call with Lay Kris was set, now all he had to do was get Lay's help figuring out how to do this whole 'saving people to save their planet' thing. Kris knew that Lay had been a kind of right-hand man for Suho so he hoped the boy would do the same for him.

Tao waited until he heard Kris talking to Chen and Xiumin then quietly slipped out his room and half-jogged downstairs. The teen grabbed a notepad and pen from the coffee table in the living area and scribbled out a shopping list for himself and Xiumin to work from.

-

It was almost 4am by the time Kris, Tao, Xiumin, Chen and Lay had finished dinner. They were all recovering from different time zones and they were all clearly very tired from the day. Chen and Xiumin offered to clean up as the other boys slugged off to bed.

By morning Lay hadn't slept a wink, too preoccupied thinking about Luhan laying in that hospital bed. He spent the entire time he should have been sleeping contemplating going back to the hospital but after Chen had told him Luhan had wanted to get some rest he'd thought better of going. Now it was half 9 in the morning and all Lay could think about was when he would be able to go and see Luhan, wondering if Sehun had gone to see him or not, pondering what Chen and Luhan had spoken about. He managed to stop himself thinking too much by hoping in the shower, blocking his thoughts as much as he could while washing up.

He managed to fill his time with mundane tasks through the day as the other boys slept away till the afternoon. It got to 2pm before Lay couldn't find anything else to do and as he heard some footsteps coming from upstairs he wrote out a note to tell the other where he was then hoped on his motorbike and made his way to see Luhan. Lay knew from the discussion he had Kris had had the night before that he and Tao would be busy at 4pm today saving some guy from getting electrocuted so they most likely wouldn't be visiting Luhan, he assumed Xiumin and Chen would somehow find themselves busy so he shouldn't be interrupted.

Stopping outside the hospital Lay took a small detour to pick up a bunch of magnolias, Luhan's favourite flower, then made his way to the older boys room.

Lay opened the door without knocking, slipping in quietly in case he was asleep. Lay was stood half in the doorway but as he looked up his face dropped. Sehun. That little brat was sat by Luhan's side, his back was to Lay so neither boy knew he was stood there, he could hear Sehun was crying quietly, Luhan was gently running his fingers through the younger's hair, hushing his apologies.

Lay wasn't sure if it was just wishful thinking but he was sure Luhan looked a little irritated, not wanting to listen to Sehun's apologies anymore. Luhan looked around the room a little, a smile lighting up his face as his eyes found Lay. The reaction brought a bright smile to Lay's own lips and he stepped more into the room.

"Hey there, hope I'm not interrupting anything."

Sehun's head snapped round at hearing Lay's voice and the teen quickly wiped his eyes while Luhan gestured Lay to come closer, spotting the flowers Luhan felt a light blush on his cheeks at seeing that Lay had remembered his favourite flower but then he frowned a little and held out his hand.

"Wait, Sehun's allergic."

Gesturing to the flowers Luhan frowned a little and nodded towards the windowsill furthest from the bed.

"Thank you though."

As Lay walked to put the flowers down he muttered quietly under his breath.

"Allergic to blueberry cheesecake too I bet."

Sehun caught Lay's number and glared slightly, recognising Luhan's favourite food he huffed a little and pouted, shuffling closer to Luhan possessively Sehun took the older boy's hand in his own and watched Lay wearily.

Pulling up a chair Lay sat the other side of Luhan and smiled softly at the boy.

"So how you feeling?"

Luhan gave a small shrug as he spoke, his eyes on Lay.

"I feel ok, it's pretty boring in here but I'm not in pain as long as I don't move."

Lay couldn't help but frown a little, hesitating slightly and glancing at Luhan's legs before asking.

"and.. what's the news on your legs?"

Luhan also looked at his legs and bit his lower lip lightly before answering.

"They say I'll need to use a wheelchair for a while and go through physical therapy but I think you healed them enough that I'll be able to walk again after.. a while"

Nodding a little Lay looked back at Luhan and sighed quietly.

"I'm sorry I couldn't heal them fully. I know Suho'll lose his mind if I just heal you when you leave here."

Shaking his head Luhan spoke with a little irritation in his voice.

"I'm tired of people apologising. You did everything you could."

Lay noticed from the corner of his eye Sehun looking down guiltily at Luhan's words, apologising had been pretty much all he'd done while with Luhan and now the older boy was flat out saying he was sick of it.  Lay couldn't help but feel a slight satisfaction at Sehun's discomfort and while the conversation with Luhan continued to more casual things Lay was sure to drop in little reminders that Sehun couldn't really have the type of relationship he wanted with the older boy, dropping in small comments on what they would have for dinner when Luhan got back to their home, mentioning ways they could make the refurbished warehouse more wheelchair friendly for the time being and talking about helping Luhan out getting to bed. The more Lay and Luhan spoke comfortably the more uncomfortable Sehun seemed. Luhan didn't seem to notice, lightly squeezing Sehun's hand every now and then to show the teen he was still paying attention to him too despite not looking away from Lay as the two spoke.

After a while Sehun stood up and cleared his throat causing the other two to look up at him.

"I think I'm going to head home. Suho asked me not to be gone long so.."

Luhan gave a small smile and nodded.

"Alright, I'll text you later ok?"

nodded and awkwardly leant down to place a light peck on Luhan's cheek before leaving the room quickly. Once Sehun was gone Luhan turned to Lay again and gave the boy a light smile but before he could say anymore Lay stood up and smiled softly.

"I'm just going to pop to the bathroom quick."

Slipping out quickly Lay caught up with Sehun and put his arm over the teen's shoulders, a seemingly friendly gesture but Lay used the position to control where Sehun walking, leading the teen to a quiet hall Lay pushed Sehun against a wall slightly and turned to face him, blocking him from moving.

"Lay what are you-"

"Your guilt doesn't mean a thing Sehun. Your apologies mean nothing. You put him here and we all know it."

"Lay stop. You don't know what happened you don't-"

Lowering his voice and darkening his tone Lay interrupted again.

"I know everything I need to and that's that you put him here and he's going to resent you for it. You know that too. That's why you feel so damn guilty."

Tears were brewing in Sehun's eyes and he tried to blink them away but he knew Lay was right, Luhan must hate him now, he'd almost killed him in that crash and if not for Lay then Luhan wouldn't be around anymore. Sehun knew he'd never stop feeling guilty about it but he loved Luhan and he wasn't going to give him up after working so hard to have him.  Trying to make his voice strong Sehun stood straighter and looked Lay in the eyes.

"He doesn't love you. He never will. Get over it."

Pushing passed the older boy Sehun walked quickly away, holding back his tears until Lay was out of sight and ear shot. In truth Sehun had no idea if what he said was true or not. Luhan's life had been saved by Lay, could Sehun really fully believe that wouldn't stir up some emotions, only time would tell.
