TOP’s eyes slowly adjusted in the dark. He realized that he was lying on top of Sanghee. Their faces were mere centimeters apart. They stared at each other shocked for a few seconds. She tried to move, but he was too heavy. He suddenly panicked and rolled off the couch and onto the floor with a thud. He rubbed the back of his head “Sorry.”

                Sanghee stood up awkwardly “Ummm… It’s ok. I will see you later then.” She headed towards the door. “Wait!” TOP grabbed the foot stool and helped himself up. “Will you stay with me for a little bit?” He stumbled over to the wall and the lights, instantly covering his eyes.

                She thought for a moment. She figured that she should at least make sure he is alright before leaving. There wasn’t anyone around to help him if he needed it. She nodded “Yeah I guess so. I will go get you some water.” She found her way to the cafeteria and bought two bottles of water.

                Back at the studio, she saw TOP had powered up the computer and he had opened a program and was listening to some beats, tweaking them a bit until he was satisfied with it. She handed him the water and sat back on the couch. He opened the water and drank some of it. “Thank you.” He smiled at her. It wasn’t even an awkward smile. It was a real smile.

                “Sanghee, will you help me with something? I finished writing a song and I need you to help me record it.” Sanghee looked at him shocked. She couldn’t sing or play an instrument at all. “Oh, I’m not good at singing!” she shook her head. TOP laughed a bit. “You don’t have to sing. I just need you to push record, tell me and then push play when I say.”  

                She stood up and paid attention as he showed her what to click on the computer and what buttons to push. She nodded as he smiled sadly at her. “I will try the whole song in one go.” She nodded again as he grabbed the notebook that he had been writing in at the bar for the past week.

                He went into the sound booth and put on the headphones. He quickly warmed up his voice and took another drink of water. He cleared his throat and nodded at her. She pressed the record button and looked up at him nodding. TOP nodded “Of all days. Initial Recording. Press play.” She pressed play and a couple beats went and he automatically started singing.

“Maybe I'm regretting it

                Sanghee was amazed at his voice. He suddenly started rapping.

“Pleased to see you, it’s been so long

Slightly awkward but a friend

I start a conversation like this

A somewhat special night, a vacant cafe

A faint fog holds its breath

Pointing out the sleepless night

                She wasn’t sure if she should continue to watch him. Tears were starting to form in his eyes. He began singing again.

                Her eyes were glued to him. Even though he was holding back tears, he was still able to keep recording. He tried really hard to not look away from the notebook.

The phone's call history is full of outgoing calls

                Sanghee felt like crying now too. She knew that he wrote this song about her. He told her so on the way here. She could feel all of the emotion in it. He began singing the chorus again.

                TOP’s voice got softer as tears started rolling down his cheeks.

                The song ended and TOP fell to the floor crying. Sanghee quickly pushed the button to stop the recording. She didn’t want the sounds of his crying to be recorded.
