Chapter 4
Broken, Unbroken [Hiatus]MEI LING POV:
"So, you hit head?" the one called Donghae asked me with such a thick accent that I almost had to ask Siwon or Leeteuk to ask him what he said in Korean. We were all seated in the living room and I was being bombarded with questions.
"Yeah...Something like that... At least, that's what the doctors said..." I answered. Donghae looked at me with such a confused expression that I almost burst out laughing. Thankfully, Siwon translated for me before I could make any sound.
"No remember none?" Yesung asked.
"Not much," I replied with a shake of my head.
"You brave stay here. Heechul-hyung very hurt Hankyung-hyung leave. That Hankyung-hyung room," Donghae said, pointing to my current room. I nodded, indicating that I understood.
"I hope you doing okay here," Siwon said. "Heechul-hyung is very hard to approach nowadays. Of you ever need anything, we just on the floor below." I smiled gratefully.
"Thanks Siwon, I really apppreciate that."
"So, you stay long, yes?" Sungmin suddenly asked.
"Um, I-"
"NO SHE IS NOT!!" Heechul's door burst open. We all looked at him with surprise. He spoke angrily in Korean before slamming his door shut again. Nothing he said sounded nice.
"Don't worry, he didn't say anything too bad," Siwon said. I shook my head.
"I can guess what he said," I replied. "I'm okay with it. Considering what he's going through right now, I don't really blame him."
The other members soon left, after spending the night getting to know their new friend, except Siwon and Leeteuk, who stayed behind to give me my first Korean lesson.
"Annyeong-haseyo, jeoneun Leeteuk ibnida," Leeteuk repeated himself and I tried to imitate him, to introduce myself.
"Aargh!" I tangled my fingers into my hair, ready to rip it all out. "Why is Korean so freakin' complicated?! English is just 'Hi, I'm Mei Ling!' DONE! None of this ib-nida or jeon-n, er, whatever! No offense, but still!"
"Okay, calm down," Siwon said, a bit bemused by me reaction, but hiding it well. Leeteuk, on the other hand, snorted with laughter, but then quickly covered it with a cough.
"Sorry," he apologized, "but you different Hankyung-ah. He quiet learn Korean."
"...Hankyung, what kind of a person was he? I mean, it seems that he was really important to you all..." I said, my frustration melting away.
"...Well, he a part of Super Junior when band saw its first performance," Siwon started, slowly. "We all loved him as we would our own brother."
"But...he Chinese. People here before don't like. Hard time for him. Lucky Heechul-ah was good friend and stood up. He no care image, just Hankyung. They grow very close," Leeteuk continued.
"Heh, but they two are very different. Heechul-hyung is loud, stubborn, and absolutely crazy. He not afraid speak his mind. Hankyung-hyung was quiet, nice, very caring and hardworking. I don't know how they best friends, but they were," Siwon added, smiling at the memories.
"So...I bet it was really hard when Hankyung left," I said. "Hyun-woo told me why." Leeteuk and Siwon both nodded.
"We save spot here for him, but he no come back..." Leeteuk said with a sigh. "But we still hope..."
HEECHUL POV:
I sat with my back to my door. A swirl of emotions raged within me.
I was confused...
I was hurt...
I was shocked...
Anything but what I used to be...
I buried my head into my arms, Leeteuk and Siwon's words forcing memories back into my mind. Hankyung...all the times we spent together...all the fanservice...Hanchul...
I stared at my knees. Why was this so difficult to accept? He had to leave because his health was in jeopardy, but we lost contact...and now this. It's as if he shunned me out of his life...He didn't even tell me he was engaged, let along getting married! Hankyung, what's wrong with you?! What have I done to make you hate me?!
"Pabo!!" I yelled and picked up the closest thing to me, a framed picture and threw it as hard as I could, where it collided with the wall and landed in a pile of broken glass at the foot of my bed.
Moments later, there was a soft knock at my door.
"Go away!" I yelled.
"Heechul-ah, are you alright?" Leeteuk's voice asked worriedly through the wood.
"I'm fine, Jungsu-hyung. Just leave me alone!" I said, wanting him to go.
"What was that sound? Did something break?"
"Just go!" Why didn't he just listen? I knew he was just worried, but I had no intention of talking to anyone at the moment. I then heard his footsteps reluctantly walk away.
