Chapter 2
Broken, Unbroken [Hiatus]MEI LING POV:
Two weeks later...
"...Sleigh bells..." I said softly.
"Sorry?" Hyun-woo asked.
"I remember sleigh bells...and snow...beautiful, white snow..." I replied.
"I remember my first sleigh ride..." he said, smiling. "It was my birthday present from my parents during the winter."
"That's nice of them," I said, but the memory did not feel happy. It weighed on my heart like an invisible anchor, dragging it down below the surface...but I couldn't remember. All I heard in my mind were the soft ringing of sleighbells. I sighed in frustration.
"Don't worry, you'll get your memory back soon," Hyun-woo said encouragingly.
"But it's already been two weeks! I've already recovered from most of my injuries and I can breathe and move on my own!" I exclaimed. I held my head in my hands. "I hate this!...I hate not knowing anything about myself..."
"It's okay..." Hyun-woo said.
At that moment, Siwon, Leeteuk and Heechul walked in, following the doctor. Hyun-woo stood up and they bowed to each other. They spoke in rapid fire Korean; my mind spun with all the different sounds.
LEETEUK POV:
"The worst of her injuries are stable and everything seems fine. The only thing left are her broken arm and ribs. All and all, she will be discharged from the hospital tomorrow," the doctor announced. "The problem now, is where will she go? We know nothing of her and she still has no idea where she is from."
"Hotels and apartments are expensive and she cannot work in her condition," Hyun-woo said. "It doesn't help that she knows no Korean either."
"She cannot stay here," the doctor said.
"But we can't throw her out onto the streets!" Hyun-woo exclaimed. "Who knows what will happen."
"We will look into a place for her, but who will pay the expenses?" the doctor replied. I watched the two men trying to solve the dilemma. I looked over at the girl in the hospital bed. She looked so lost it almost made me laugh. Without all the bandages on her head, I could now clearly see her face. Other than the bruises on her cheek, she did not look that bad. Almond-shaped eyes with double lids, slightly arched eyebrows, full lips, and a pointed chin. Although her short, K-pop styled hair gave her the look of a boy band member, her features were definitely feminine. The thought of her living on the streets of Seoul, a city unfamiliar to her, sent a wave of pity through me. We were the ones who brought her here. To be released onto the streets, she wouldn't last too long and that would've been for naught. We could have just let the ambulance take her to the hospital by itself and we would have been able to resume our normal lives...But we didn't. For some reason, we decided to accompany her in the ambulance.
-Flashback-
"Siwon-ah! Heechul-ah! Come here!" I called. Sensing the concern in my voice, the two rushed over, followed by a few of the other cast members. I held my hand up, a signal for the rest of them to stay back. Siwon and Heechul stopped beside me.
Among the rubble lay a girl. She was bleeding badly from a nasty gash on her forehead and various injuries covering her body. Her left arm was twisted and bent at a very unnatural angle beside her; it was definitely broken. She mumbled something inaudibly.
"She's still alive! Siwon-ah, quick! Call an ambulance!" I yelled. Siwon's phone was whipped out in a flash and he began furiously punching the number pad.
Soon, a siren wail approached us.
"Heechul-ah! Give me a hand! We need to get this debris off her! Siwon-ah, you too!" I yelled and we managed to free her from her prison. The paramedics came over and quickly hoisted her onto the stretcher. They were loading her into the back of the ambulance when Siwon called out,
"Wait! We're coming!" Heechul and I looked at him.
"Why?" Heechul asked, confused.
"Aish! Something's telling me we need to go! We have to make sure she's okay! I don't know why, but we just have to. Come on, let's go!"
