Fire danced before my eyes, flames rising high to the ceiling of the confinement. The scorching heat breathed on my skin like a dragon as thick black smoke drowned my lungs like water. I clawed at the walls, coughing and desperate for air. People were screaming around me, trying to get out and save themselves.

But there was nowhere to go.

We were trapped in a vessel sealed off from escape. I could hear a voice trying to speak over the chaos, trying to calm the people down.  In a situation like this, how could anyone remain calm? Death was looking at us all in the eye, waiting to carry each and every one of us to the world beyond. It was a miracle we needed, not the voice of another panicking human at Death's door.

I did not want to die.

Please...someone help me...

I became aware of a distance screaming and crying. A man's voice, dulled to the point where I couldn't even make out what he was saying, was trying to calm the screaming girl. She was screaming something about a fire...

Only then, did I realize that the hysteric voice was my own.

"Mei Ling-ah! What's wrong?! Talk to me!" he excalimed, exasperated. I looked at him with eyes like a doe's in a car's headlights. I could see the fire dancing all around us.

The flames were drawing nearer and nearer...

They would consume us at any second...

"NO!!!" I screamed. "SOMEONE HELP US!!! PLEASE! I DON'T WANT TO DIE!!!" I was crying hysterically, crystal tears streaming down from my eyes like silent waterfalls.

"Mei Ling-ah! Look at me!" the man said, shaking my shoulders lightly. I turned my eyes towards his face to see a burning figure before me, screaming at me to help her. The scorched, ashened skin...the fear-stricken eyes...the blood-curdling cries...

I went insane.

I thrashed about like a crazed psychiatric patient. I was sure I hit him in the face a couple times in my frenzy, but I was not in the state of mind to realize it.

There was no man.

Only fire...and panic.

I suddenly felt someone pull me into a deep hug, refusing to let go even though I was still squirming.

"It's ok. It's ok," the voice coaxed soothingly. My stammered breathing slowly relaxed, but I was still shaking.  I opened my eyes and realized that the man hugging me was no other than Heechul...and it was no other than Heechul who's voice had been trying to calm me down.

Heechul...?

"...H-Hyung...?" I asked. He looked at me with wide eyes and realizing that I was somewhat back to my normal senses, immediately let go.

"...You...you no calm down...I...I..." he tried to explain, but it was enough. I smiled.

"Thank you..."

"Mei Ling-ah, what happened?" Hyun-woo asked me. After the incident, Hyun-woo had been called and he and a nurse came to bring me back home. Now I sat on the living room couch back in Heechul's dorm while the two sat across from me. I held my head in my hands.

"I...don't know..." I replied, avoiding eye contact. "Hyun-woo-hyung...you asked me, the first day you met me...if I remembered anything about a fire..."

"Yes?" he asked, listening closely.

"...How did you know? You know what happened that day...don't you..?" I asked. "Please tell me...I need to know..." He took a deep breath and then sighed.

"I only know a portion of it, but yes. I know how you ended up in Korea that day..."
