Chapter 20

The Person Next To You

Krystal’s POV

After that night, I felt like Amber became more caring towards me. It’s like the old thoughtful Amber was back, but she still can’t remember me.

One month has passed by so fast and we’re finally back to Korea. It’s just sad that since Amber can somehow speak Korean again, she decided to go back to her own condo unit. It seems like everything went back to normal.

I sighed deeply as I’ve thought of a lot of things that has happened.

“Bored or tired?” I looked up at the source of the voice and saw Amber carrying some bags of… food? It’s a normal working day in my office and since it’s already lunchtime, here she is, bringing some food inside and convinces me to stop my work and eat.

“Both?”

“HAHAHA! You’re just hungry. Come on, move your out there and sit here.” She said as she patted the sofa. She then continued to prepare the food, taking out the boxes in the bag.

“Thanks.” I told her as I finally sat in front of the coffee table where the food is.

“No prob, boss. Anyway are you going to Tiffany unnie’s birthday party later?”

“Hmm… I don’t know.”

“Hey… Don’t tell me you’re not going? Don’t leave your bestfriend alone in a friend’s party!”

“But Amber, this whole week has been too tiring for me.”

“The more reason you should go! C’mon Krys, it’s weekend tomorrow… no work.”

Amber… Aish… I’m tired you know? And I know that if I go there, I’ll just get drunk.

“Amber…”

“Please Princess? Please?” She pleaded with a pout on her face.

Damn those pouts. Now how can I resist that?

“Aish… Can you please stop pouting? It’s irritating.” Stop it or I’ll die from your cuteness.

“Aww… How come it’s effective on others, but not with you? *sigh*” She sighed in defeat and turned her attention back to the food she’s eating. “If you don’t really want to, then I won’t bother you anymore.”

Effective on others? She showed that kind of face on others? Now who are those people? Aish…

“*sigh* Fine, I’ll go… But I won’t drink and I’ll stay for only a few hours. That’s all.”

She looked up to me with a bright face. “I know you’ll still go because I’m going. Merong!”

“Yah!” I then threw my fork to her, but she was able to catch it.

“You really love to throw things to me huh? How about I throw some things to you too?”

“Hah! You deserve it. And what are you going to throw to me huh, Amber Liu?”

“Kisses.”

O______O

K-Kisses?

I was so lost in my thought about her throwing kisses when I felt something on my head and fell in front of me.

I picked it up and…

Hershey’s Kisses?!

“Hahaha! Gotcha! Dessert Princess. You’ve been too stressed these past few days. Have some, it’s good for relieving stress.” She said as she flashed that goofy smile of hers once again.

I ate the chocolate and crumpled the wrapper and threw it back to Amber.

“Yah! What was that for?”

“A ‘thank-you-throw’.”

She smiled at me before eating another piece and crumpled it to throw to me.

“A ‘you’re-always-welcome-throw’.”

End of Krystal’s POV

Who would say no to a party full of alcoholic drinks when you’re too stressed for the past few days because of work? They say that alcohol is actually good for stress, but only two bottles of beer are enough per day for a normal person. But a birthday party where you can almost swim with the enormous amounts of liquors, it’s impossible to restrain yourself with only two bottles of beer.

Amber and Krystal never left each other’s side the moment they entered Tiffany’s house until they both got drunk.

To Krystal, it’s been a while since she got drunk like this with Amber. She never thought that she’d be this happy again. Maybe it really is fun to get drunk after being stressed too much… but it has to be with the person you love so much.

To Amber, on the other hand, the feeling is somewhat new but familiar. It’s not that she never got drunk before when she’s in high school, but getting drunk with the people who are supposed to be close to her, but as of now, she feels like they’re strangers. And the only person she’s close to, and familiar with, is none other than her boss and bestfriend. Ever since they got back from LA, she felt that her feelings for her aren’t just for someone whom she considers only as a friend. The more she thinks about it, the more she realizes that she’s starting to like her, more than a friend.

Living away from her saddened her, but for her, it’s enough space for her to prove her to herself that her feelings are for real. She kept on asking herself at night if those feelings are also the same feelings that she felt before the accident. She wanted to regain her memories so she could tell her finally what she really feels. Maybe with her memories back, she could be sure. But as Jackie told her on the phone one night when she called home, she asked Amber, “Do you really have to be the 28-year-old Amber again so you could love her again? Look at you… Look at her. She’s still beside you. Do you know why? Because regardless you remember her the way you originally knew her or not, she’s waiting for you to love her back. Why are you having doubts?”

Why is she having doubts? She kept on thinking that night after the conversation, but nothing comes into her mind. Did something happen in the past that it makes her doubt her own feelings? If something really did happen, what is it?

“Hey Amber… I’m… drunk already.” The girl beside her said weakly as she rested her head on her shoulder.

“Hah… Me too Krys.”

“Hey guys, you’re both drunk already? I won’t let anyone of you drive.” Tiffany said as she noticed the two.

“We’ll just take a cab back at home.” Amber told her.

“Okay. I’ll call you guys a cab. Thanks for coming to my party.”

“Happy birthday again, unnie.” They both said in unison.

After a few minutes, the cab came and the two decided to just sleepover Krystal’s apartment since it’s nearer.

The two helped each other to walk until they got in the younger girl’s apartment. As soon as they got in, they both plopped their bodies on the floor, laughing endlessly.

“Hahaha! This is just… epic! Hahaha.” Krystal said as looked up at the ceiling.

“Yeahhhhhhhh! Hahaha.”

A moment of silence then took over as the two stared at the ceiling.

“Krys…”

“Hm?”

“Do we always do this? I mean getting drunk at parties and stuff?”

“Most of the time? Not always, but we’re always too stressed with work so everytime we have free time, it’s either we got to parties with our friends or… go to that stand of an ahjumma near here.”

“I see… Who gets drunk first?”

“Me… And then… you’re always the one who’d carry me all the way up here even if you were also drunk. You’re drunk but you could still manage to bring me up here, change my clothes, clean me up, and will go to the couch and sleep.” Krystal told her. As soon as she finished talking, Amber already moved her body so she could carry the younger girl in her arms and bring her to her room.

As Amber put her on her bed, they stared at each other’s eyes. The two of them on a drunken state are exchanging stares, each attempting to read each other’s mind until unconsciously, their heads start to draw closer and closer. As the gap is so small between their faces, Krystal closed her eyes and put her arms around the older girl’s neck and pulled her nearer until their lips finally touched.

With both eyes closed, Amber started to move her lips, wanting to taste more of Krystal’s luscious lips, only to taste the sweet, but strong flavor of the alcohol as she returned the kiss. The younger girl started to bite lightly Amber’s bottom lip, and as she opened a bit, she slipped her tongue inside the other’s mouth and searched for her tongue. As soon as she felt it, she flicked it as the other did the same, entangling their tongues together, tasting the alcohol that was stuck in their mouths.

They were so lost in their own lust and illogical minds as their hands roam on each other’s body, exploring every bit of it. The more moans that come out from them, the more they get lost, the more they loose every bit of reason that they had.

It’s too much for Krystal to handle, but Amber’s mind suddenly worked at the wrong time as memories started to flash back in her head. She broke the kiss and fell to the floor, holding her head as she screamed in pain, panicking the younger girl on the bed. Krystal got off the bed kneeled in front of Amber to hold her shoulders.

“Amber? Relax… Okay? Don’t resist it. Just let you memories go back to you.” She told her as she stood up and tried hard to walk straight without stumbling down towards the kitchen to get a bottle of water.

As soon as she got back, she immediately opened the water bottle and gave it to Amber. As soon as she finished drinking, Krystal held her tight in a warm embrace as Amber continued to struggle from the pain in her head. As soon as it subsided, she instantly fell asleep in the arms of the person who loves her the most, and whom she also loves as much.

When they woke up the next day, none of them remembered what happened the other night. They didn’t even remember going to Krystal’s apartment. They just knew that they woke up, hugging each other on the floor.

Unknown to the younger girl though…

Amber’s memories were finally back.
