Chapter 12
The Person Next To You
The next day, I informed our friends and workmates about Amber’s condition. They assured me that they’ll be gentle so she won’t get traumatized with their hyper personalities. Tiffany unnie and Jessica unnie agreed to be their translator along with me.
When we got in her room, it’s obvious how all of them wanted to group hug Amber, but they controlled themselves, ending with them breaking down into tears of joy that after months in coma, their friend is finally awake.
“Can you recognize us Amber?” Luna, one of Amber’s closest friends asked.
“She’s asking if you can still recognize them Amber.”I translated for her.
“I think Krys already told you that I’m having an amnesia right? Well, I do remember your faces according to what Krys showed me yesterday.”
I translated what she said again and this caused Luna to burst into tears and slowly walked towards her to give her a warm hug of welcome.

“Have you told Amber’s parents about what happened to her?” Jessica unnie asked me.
We are now in my condo unit, talking about business after visiting Amber in the hospital. For them, it’s like getting to know Amber over again. It’s painful to see them like that, but at the end of the day, they’re glad because Amber never failed to smile at them just like before.
“I already called Jackie. She said she’ll handle everything back in the US and try not to shock their parents.”
“How about Hyuna?”
I paused for a while and looked straight into my unnie’s eyes. I can’t lie to her.
“Even though it’s hard on my part, I think she still deserves to know that Amber’s already awake and I already told her about her condition.”
“I’m proud of you.”
“Thanks.”
“What did she say?”
“She just said ‘okay’ and thanked me. She hung up after that.”
“I see. So what are you planning to do now?”
“Excuse me?”
“Now that Amber is back to her 21-year old brain, it’ll be hard for her to live alone in Korea.”
