The world has changed. The humans now lived in big, from high metal walls surrounded cities, trapped in their fear. Only a few lived alone outside of the cities, knowing of the danger the Vampires were causing. Over hundreds and thousands of years, Humans and Vampires had fought against each other, but there had never been a clear victory for both sides. In the end, everything had turned into an unstable peace, negotiated by the council and the royal family of the Vampires.

This peace had lasted for fifty years, until a Vampire Lord had lost control over his hunger and killed a noble woman. Her family wanted revenge, and they managed to kill the Vampire Lord. The two deaths had been a reason enough to start the war anew. It was a bloodshed like no other, and it had only brought sadness and grief over both Vampires and Humans.

The Human Council created a group, a group of young men who will able to kill the Vampires. They had recruited them, had kidnapped them, had got them out of prison, had got them from the weirdest places, but they were all good in one thing - killing Vampires. After another a hundred years of war, the royal family and the council members of the Humans negotiated another peace that last until today.

Slowly, the people got used to their caged life, got used to the fact that a war could start anew any moment. The Vampires lived in their residences, far away from the Human cities, and it was prohibited to drink the blood from a living Human. In return, the council had to send a monthly package of blood from the hospitals to them, so they managed to maintain the peace between the two different species. The warriors disappeared and slowly, the people forgot them.

After further 20 years, no one could remember the seve anymore, and those who could told the ones who still wanted to listen the stories about their glorious wars and fights. Until now, nobody knew if they were still alive or not, if they were still living in the human cities or not. Some whisper that they were still alive, hiding, watching. Watching over those who could not fight, watching out for another war, because if there was a new war, they would be there.

A cold wind blew over the paltry landscape of what used to be a part of New York before. Shudders ran down the young woman, who sat at the steps in front the small, wooden house. She hummed a small melody while she rubbed her arms. Her black hair got tousled by the wind, and she stood up. Before she opened the door to the small house, she slowly turned her head.

The small flowers in the pot were the only color tints in the gray world of her world. A sigh escaped her lips, and she walked into the house, where she suddenly stopped in front of a blotched and dirty mirror. Her face was very slim, just like her overall appearance, caused by the lack of food, which she and her family had.
