IU - It's First Love

Myungsoo and Yuna arrived at a park near their house. They were both clueless as to why they were here, together. It was weird. Yuna never went out to parks and she would never accept to go even if it wasn’t Myungsoo who offered. Myungsoo, though, loved the parks, but it was a much unexpected thing to find them both together in a place where couples usually visit for dates.

It was just too weird to be true. A week or two ago, Yuna and Myungsoo had a dislike for each other. Yuna found Myungsoo too inconsiderate and Myungsoo thought Yuna was too grouchy. But, over their encounters with each other, they learnt that they both shared this feeling of the lack of love and care. This was probably the reason why they weren’t as uncomfortable with each other like before. Or maybe it was just the fact that they both felt lonely so maybe sharing an experience at a beautiful park with someone who feels the same was a good idea to them.

Whatever it is, they wasn’t sure and didn’t want to think too much about it since the atmosphere was very comfortable and nice.

They sat in silence, watching the flock of birds flying together and the wind blowing the leaves of the trees. The silence wasn’t awkward. Instead, it was comfortable. The calm moment gave them a chance to think about themselves, for once, maybe; to think about happy things.

“Do you feel it?” Myungsoo asked, his head pointing up but his eyes closed.

Although he wasn’t too specific, Yuna just knew what he was saying. They just knew what each other was thinking. He was asking if she felt the calm and serene moment that seemed too precious to lose.

Yuna nodded, “Mm.”

It wasn’t a grunt like it should have been, though. It was a soft, agreeing tone.

Yuna realized that Myungsoo and her had so much things in common – their thoughts, their feelings, their lives, probably, and many other things. They were so similar that it became easy for both to understand each other. And she was surprised that she could accurately understand him. She was even more surprised that all these had started after only one to two weeks of being with him although barely talking to him. Their conversations just contained enough meaning to make it seem like they’ve talked for months and had learnt so much about each other during that period of time.

It felt so right that it became almost magical for the both of them.

The both of them kept questioning themselves. Could this be a dream? It feels too good to be true. Did God really finally decide that I have the person I’ve been waiting for here? I cannot believe it. I need someone to tell me that this is true. I do not want to get my hopes so high only to realize that this happiness wouldn’t last. So, please tell me. Tell me that it is true that I’ve finally found my medicine to heal.

They both opened their eyes and turned to each other at the same time. Their eyes that contained so much meaning and feelings stared into each other; neither wanted to look away. They were waiting for something to happen. Their expectations were set high as they hoped in their hearts that whatever they were thinking about were true and not only temporary.

Then, finally, a small voice whispered to their palpitating hearts.

Yes, it is true.

Rain started pouring soon after and Yuna and Myungsoo rushed to get shelter. They dusted their wet tops and looked at each other. They couldn’t help but smile at each other. And it wasn’t a big, radiant smile but a small, soft smile.

They couldn’t get over the happiness they had been feeling earlier just now.

The rain started pouring really hard and Yuna and Myungsoo couldn’t help but wait at their shelter – the bus stop. It was the exact same bus stop where they had first conversed with each other. Although Yuna had requested that they both forget that incident, she now felt guilty and regretful.

It was one of her most meaningful memories, she realized, because she had heard from someone that they cared. She should have been more thankful and not selfish. It should have taken a lot of courage for Myungsoo to muster. After all, he wasn’t a very outspoken person. For him to say something as deep as he had for all their conversations it must have been hard but he had said it for her anyway.

This was the real effort she wished to see in all her friends – like Kris, for example. But, she understood that he wasn’t that type of person and would never be able to be as soft and kind as she wished – maybe emotionally; but, definitely not physically or maybe just not often enough for Yuna to feel the impact. He was only so kind and soft at desperate moments when Yuna was so down that she could technically feel the desire for suicide, despite not being that kind of person.

Many buses stopped to collect the passengers. It was the same for the next few hours.

Although it only consisted of the constant visits from the buses or taxis and also Yuna and Myungsoo just staring at their passing figures with so much thoughts running in their mind, they were both able to feel the new attraction for each other.

They weren’t sure if it was that kind of attraction or the normal best friend attraction. They thought it was the latter.

But, they could be wrong.
