That night, I stayed at the dorm room bathroom for an hour. Ella was outside, probably waiting to take a bath. She knocked for the tenth time in an hour.

"You don't have to do that, you know!"

"I know, but are you alright? You've been in there long enough!"

I sighed.

"Yeah."

'This girl can really be so unintelligent!' I thought, shaking my head. 'Unbelievable! Can't even tell why I'm in here for so long.'

I got out of the bathroom before she could knock again.

"What do you want?" I mumbled.

"Uhmm... Just making sure that you haven't fainted..." Ella trailed off.

She must have been scared by my death glare. I sighed.

"Sorry. By the way, how was your 'kiss' with Wu Chun?"

"What 'kiss'? Oh! No, Chun just slipped and pulled me down with him. We'll probably become the school's laughing stock!" Ella groaned.

I smiled as she pouted in anger.

"He's so... annoying!"

"Oh, be nice! He's not that bad. Give him a ... chance. He'll be a nice friend," I consoled her.

She nodded slowly.

'Should I tell her my past?'

"Jerry? Hello? Earth to Jerry! Yoohoo!"

I snapped out of my thoughts. I glanced at Ella.

"I'm going to tell you my past, ok? It's full of sadness, jsut warning."

Ella nodded.

"I'm ready," She said , smiling brightly.

"Oh, well..." I began. "I was only a teen when I had my first love. She was exactly like you, except she didn't have short hair... She's not named Ella, either, but on with the story. We were in love. We were a match made in heaven, that is, until she left."

"Where is she now?"

I shrugged.

"She just left you?"

I nodded.

"I didn't know where she is.. I've been trying to find her for a few years, but there hasn't been any news..." I trialed off.

"Do you want to see her again?"

"Of course. The moment I gave up searching, I became like this."

I gestured towards my serious face. Ella nodded.

"Is that why you're so serious all the time? You're less serious now, though!" Ella said cheerfully.

"You know, Ella," I confessed. "You're really nice. You make other's troubles stop for a while..."

Ella smiled and blushed.

"I try to keep others happy and carefree," Ella shrugged.

For a few minutes, we just stared at each other until Ella jerked back.

"I've got an idea!"

"What?" I asked.

"I'll be your best friend and stay by your side. Then, you'll forget about the pain of that girl you lost."

I laughed at her innocence.

"You're really simple, Ella. If only I were like you."

"Hey!"

Ella pouted.

"I can be really mean if I could!"

I ruffled Ella's hair.

"I'll accept though, best friend," I added as she went to bed.

I helped her tuck herself in and I went to bed, too.

"Goodnight, buddy," we both whispered in unison.
