Memories of a Chipmunk's Past

The Not So Ugly Duckling

“Daehyun!” Himchan bursted into the CEO’s office, cold sweat forming as his eyes frantically searched the room. Daehyun placed a finger against his lips, signaling to the elder to lower his voice. Daehyun had finally managed to calm the trembling chipmunk who was now sleeping soundly on his couch. His soft breathing putting Daehyun’s mind at ease. “I heard from Jongup…” Himchan cautiously trotted over, kneeling beside Daehyun who was gently caressing Youngjae’s hair.

“Who is Jinsoo, Himchan….” Daehyun’s voice was unnervingly calm. But Himchan knew better. From Daehyun’s intense stare, his knitted brow, and the slight scrunch of Daehyun’s nose. Daehyun was fuming. A boiling kettle waiting to pop.

“An who could go freaking die in a damn ditch…” Himchan growled thinking of the bastard.

“Himchan…” Himchan flinched at the controlled intensity and harshness of Daehyun’s voice. He had never seen the younger like this. Daehyun was either a ball of sunshine or a y, coy business man. Never like this. Never this predatorial.

“You know that I shouldn’t be the one to tell you…” Himchan murmured, understanding Daehyun’s frustration, but at the same token he had to respect Youngjae’s privacy.

Daehyun’s lips formed a tight line. He couldn’t be mad at the elder, it wasn’t his fault. He wasn’t the one that caused Youngjae to be this way. He was just frustrated and mad at the damn world. He couldn’t do a thing. He was helpless as his chipmunk was basically withering away. He couldn’t do a thing seeing his chipmunk shiver and pale in fear. He just stood there like a damn idiot and let it happen. He thought he would never feel this weak ever again. He thought that once he was the CEO, all that power and money within his grasp, he would finally have control of his life. He could finally do something. He wouldn’t be on the sidelines letting life continuously beat him down. But he couldn’t even help the person he cared about the most right now. He was going back to square one. The scared child that couldn’t fend for himself. That couldn’t protect his mother….

“Jongup, cancel all my meetings for today…” Daehyun closed his eyes shut, massaging his temples as he spoke to Jongup through his bluetooth earpiece. “Yeah, he calmed down….he’s sleeping right now….Thanks, Guppie…” Daehyun turned off the earpiece, facing Himchan.

“I’ll help Jongup make sure this place runs smoothly…” Himchan understandingly patting Daehyun’s back before gently caressing Youngjae’s hair.

”It’s not what it looks like, babe.” Youngjae scoffed, stomping off into their shared apartment.

“What do you mean it’s not what it looks like!? You were kissing her!?” Youngjae shrieked, flailing his hands in the air.

“Let me explain. Babe, look at me,” Youngjae refused, turning his back towards the other. “I said look at me.” Youngjae let out a sharp hiss as his face was harshly grabbed so that he was facing the other.

“L-Let go!” Youngjae stared at the other in panic.

“It was a joke, okay? Why are you being so petty?” The other's expression may have soften with sympathetic confusion, but his grip on Youngjae’s face only grew tighter. “You know you’re the only one I love, right?”

“Y-Yes?” Youngjae really didn’t know. He didn’t know how he felt about the other anymore.

“See? So why do you have to bring up such dumb things and cause us to fight? Do you like it when we fight, Jae? Do you like upsetting me?” He released his vice grip, fixing Youngjae’s glasses. “I like you so much even though I could do so much better...I sacrificed so much for you and you condemn me for one mistake?”

Youngjae shuffled his feet, feeling so small in front of the other. He was right. He could do so much better than Youngjae. He was the most popular guy on campus. Teachers loved him, guys loved him, girls loved him. He was perfect. He was everything and he settled for Youngjae. A nobody. A nerdy gay kid with only Himchan as a friend. He chose Youngjae out of everyone. Took him on dates. Kissed him. Held him close. So what if the other had made a mistake? Everyone does. Even his prince charming was human. He should appreciate all the other had done for him instead of picking fights.

“I’m sorry…” Youngjae murmured, fiddling with his fingers, unable to look up at the other.

“It’s okay, babe. Mistakes happen,” He smiled gently, cupping Youngjae’s face and placing a chaste kiss on his lips. “Just don’t let it happen again okay? I always hate fighting with you?” He leaned down, placing a heated kiss on Youngjae’s lips.

“I-I’m a bit tired...can we just snuggle together?” Youngjae flashed a sad smile, hoping the other would understand. He had just finished his first draft of his thesis paper, ran from research to his part-time job, to dealing with this emotional thunderstorm. All he wanted was to sleep in his lover’s arms.

“Aww, come on, Jae. Don’t be like that. I’ve missed seeing you all day.” The other roughly grabbed Youngjae’s bottom, causing Youngjae to let out a surprised gasp. He invaded Youngjae’s mouth, forcing his tongue through every nook and cranny he could touch. The wretched scent of sweet perfume from girl before still permeating from his skin.

“I’m just tired…” Youngjae roughly pushed the other away, emphasizing his point that tonight was not the night.

“Wow, I see how it is…” He scoffed, running his fingers through his dark locks as he glared at Youngjae, roughly grabbing his wrists. There will definitely be bruises in the morning. “You don’t seem ‘tired’ when you’re all flirty and laughing with that friend of yours. Himchan was it?”

“Himchan is just a friend.” Youngjae looked up at the other with pleading eyes, too tired to continue fighting. He was both mentally and physically exhausted.

“I know his reputation, Jae. God, you’re such a little ,” He sneered, yanking Youngjae’s arm. The younger yelping as he fell into a vice like hold. “I work hard trying to keep up with school and spend time with you so that we could have a good future and all you do is run off to go talk to Himchan. Don’t I deserve some affection too?”

“I-It’s not like that,” Youngjae gripped onto his shirt, an attempt to assure the other that Youngjae loved him dearly.

“Then what Jae? Did I do something wrong? Is it my fault that I’m too busy?”

“No,” Youngjae vigorously shook his head, burying his face into the other’s chest. “It’s mine. I was just being stupid and selfish. I’m sorry that I haven’t appreciated everything you’ve done for me.”

“That’s okay, Jae,” The other lifted Youngjae’s chin up slightly, a sweet smile painted on his face. “But you’ve really caused me hurt and grief now...not only once but twice in one sitting…” He gently caressed Youngjae’s cheek with the back of his hand. “Don’t you think you deserve some punishment for that?”

“D-do we really…” Youngjae’s voice trailed off as he felt the other’s hands travel south of his body. Youngjae’s body trembling with a mixture of anxiety and pleasure? The younger couldn’t discern the two anymore.

“It’s your fault, Jae. We could have had it easy, but you just like it rough don’t you,” He smirked against Youngjae’s skin, basking in the way the younger trembled under his touch. “Just like the dirty little you are.” He pushed Youngjae roughly, causing the other to stumble onto their couch. Youngjae looking up at his boyfriend, who had a smirk plastered on his face as he pulled out a cigarette.

“Please can we not-” Youngjae immediately shut his mouth as his boyfriend shot him a look of disapproval.

“What, Jae? You don’t like my marks?” He flashed a coy grin as he lit on of the cancer sticks. A puff of nicotine filling the room. “Don’t worry, babe. I’ll make sure they’re in a place only I can see.”

“STOP!” Youngjae bursted up, sitting straight with beads of cold sweat coating his frame. His breath was ragged and his heart was beating faster than a race horse on a track. He was gripping the sheets as if they were his damn life line.

“Chipmunk!” Daehyun bursted into the bedroom, running to the younger’s side. His strong wrapped around Youngjae’s trembling frame. “I’m here, chipmunk. Right here…” Daehyun hugged Youngjae’s head close to his chest, hoping that his warmth would remind the younger that whatever frightened him was simply a nightmare. That Daehyun was right here, by his side and willing to murder anyone that would hurt Youngjae.

“D-Dae?” Youngjae looked up at Daehyun, his eyes still attempting to focus and his mind trying to assess the situation.

“I’m right here, babe.” Daehyun flashed a sympathetic smile, cupping the younger’s face.

“Oh God…” Youngjae clutched onto Daehyun tightly, burying his face in the other’s black t-shirt. “I thought…” Youngjae murmured, Daehyun soothingly petted his head. “I’m so happy you’re here.”

“I’m always here for you, Jae…” Daehyun smiled and gently removed Youngjae from his chest so that he could place a chaste kiss on his forehead. “But you scared the living daylights out of me…”

“I’m sorry…” Youngjae looked away, feeling guilty for giving the elder a heart attack. From his now clear surroundings, he could see that he was no longer at the office an instead in Daehyun’s condo. That meant that both him and Daehyun had skipped work. Why was he so damn weak? He chewed his bottom lip. He hated this. He hated being a burden to Daehyun. He hated that that bastard made him this way.

“You have nothing to be sorry for,” Daehyun shook his head and sweetly turned Youngjae so that the younger was looking straight into Daehyun’s dark brown eyes. “I just want to know if you’re okay…”

“I…” Youngjae opened his mouth, but then immediately closed it. Was he planning to lie through his teeth? Oh no, he’s just fine. The panic attacks are normal. Like hell Daehyun would accept that bull and Youngjae knew it. But was Youngjae ready for Daehyun to know the truth? To let Daehyun know how dirty and disgusting he was…Youngjae was scared. He was more scared than when he struggled to confess to the elder. What if Daehyun was disgusted by him? Despised him? Youngjae was terrified to even think such things. Who would have thought that Youngjae had grown so attached to Daehyun.

“Does it have anything to do with that Jinsoo, guy?” Daehyun’s voice was soft, almost as if he was talking to a child. Youngjae stiffened at the name. Jinsoo was basically the Voldemort of Youngjae’s life. The simple name made Youngjae sick to his stomach. Daehyun gently caressed Youngjae’s arms up and down in a soothing fashion. Daehyun was scared. He didn’t want to push the other. He didn’t want to see his boyfriend in such traumatizing pain ever again, yet at the same time, he didn’t want to be left in the dark. How could he help his chipmunk if he didn’t know what the problem was.

“He’s…” Youngjae brought his nails to his lips, chewing on his appendages as if they were a dog toy. He thought he had managed to rid of this nervous habit of his, but it seems that the amount of emotional stress brought it back with a vengeance. Daehyun held Youngjae’s hands as if they were glass, trying to prevent Youngjae from damaging his nails any further. “He’s my ex-boyfriend…”

“What happened between to you?” Daehyun kept his voice calm, making his sure he did not sound forceful in any sense of the word.

“It’s complicated…” Youngjae’s hands went limp in Daehyun’s. He felt so drained and he felt guilty that he was keeping Daehyun in the dark just because he was a scaredy cat. Youngjae just wished he could bury himself in a pile of blankets and live as a damn hermit for 20 lifetimes.

Complicated. Daehyun knew that it had to be more than just that to cause the younger to react in such a way. He was no fool and had an inkling as to what happened to Youngjae, but if it wasn’t coming from Youngjae’s own mouth all his assumptions were measly speculation. He wanted to hear the truth from Youngjae. He just wanted to know pain and scar the other held so that he could fix it. He wanted Youngjae to always be happy. To always have a smile on his face. He would be willing to give Youngjae anything as long as the other was happy. He would get rid of anyone and anything that caused Youngjae misfortune. The younger had become an increment part of Daehyun’s life that Daehyun would even joke that he had a Youngjae obsession.

“Youngjae-”

“Can we just drop it!?” The moment seemed to freeze. Youngjae’s eyes went wide realizing how harsh he sounded the looked up at Daehyun only too see sympathetic eyes. “Daehyun...I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have shouted...I’m so sorry.”

“Baby, you need to stop saying sorry,” Daehyun cupped Youngjae’s face and gently placing a kiss on the younger’s lips. “It’s fine if you can’t tell me right now...but can you tell me eventually? I just…” Daehyun chewed his bottom lip. “I don’t like seeing you hurt and not being able to do a damn thing about it.”

“I’m so-” Youngjae shook his head, realizing he was once again apologizing. “I promise...just give me a bit more time okay?” Youngjae rested his cheeks against the elder’s soft hands. “Thank you for being so wonderful to me…” He gently placed a kiss on the palm of Daehyun’s hand.

“Are you sure you can work with Jinsoo, Jae? I can always reject this collaboration. You and I both know that Woojin is doing this to hurt us…” Daehyun gently petted Youngjae’s hair with one hand, the other hand still gently caressing Youngjae’s cheek.

“No, don’t. This is a great opportunity and I’m not letting that rat bastard Woojin or that limp Jinsoo ruin it.” Youngjae grimaced at the thought of both of them. Daehyun couldn’t help but let out a chuckle at the younger’s words. There was his feisty chipmunk.

“What are you laughing at?” Youngjae looked at Daehyun and cocked a brow.

“Just at how wonderful my chipmunk is with words.” Daehyun eskimo kissed the younger.

“Of course, I have the literary capacity of Shakespeare,” Youngjae chuckled, nuzzling himself closer into Daehyun’s warmth. “Can we stay like this for a bit….”

“That’s exactly was what I was planning.” Daehyun held the other closer, rubbing the younger’s back soothingly.

Himchan rubbed his forehead as he entered the lab, a migraine on top of a migraine forming. He had just finished up the meeting with the medicine manufacturers as well as a conference with some equipment companies to upgrade the lab. He could barely pay attention though. His mind only leading back to his precious baby Youngjae. God, if Jinsoo was still in the building Himchan would castrate the man. Or even better pour sulfuric acid on the bastard’s balls. He deserved every searing pain coming to him for what he did to Youngjae back then.

“Hyung, is Youngjae-hyung okay?” Zelo rushed to Himchan’s side, hearing from Jongup as well that Youngjae had basically had a panic attack.

“Yeah, Daehyun took him back to his place a while ago,” Himchan sighed, slumping into his lab chair. Zelo sympathetically began massaging the elder’s shoulders. “Why are you being so sweet? Did you break something?” Himchan chuckled at the youngest sweet gesture. What happened to his cheeky child?

“I’m trying to be a good kid and give my Umma a massage, geez.” Zelo scoffed, but still smiled and continue his action.

“Well then carry on then,” Himchan hummed, though he enjoyed the relaxing massage his stress about Jinsoo still leaked into his mind. The frown in his brow returning. “God, why does he have to come back…”

“Who the heck is this guy, hyung…” Zelo didn’t really want to pry into Youngjae’s life, but at the same time he wanted to know the who hurted his hyung this badly. At least that way he would know who’s to kick.

“He’s-”

“Youngjae just woke up,” Jongup bursted into the lab, closing his phone, but stopped in his tracks at the presence of Himchan and Zelo. He had only expected to see the elder in here. “Oh….sorry…” Zelo and Jongup stared at each other awkwardly before Zelo broke the staring contest and instead opted to staring at the floor.

“How’s he doing?” Himchan decided to break the silence. As much as he loved playing Dr. Phil for the young couple, he needed to know how his other child was doing.

“Daehyun said he’s calmed down, but they are obviously not coming back to work,” Jongup let out a sigh. “Daehyun is making him some soup to eat.”

“Daehyun? Making soup?,” Himchan couldn’t help but let out a spurt of laughter at the image. “Who would have thought that Daehyun would make a good housewife.”

“When it comes to Youngjae, Daehyun is willing to become Martha Stewart if needed.” Jongup let out a small smile before pulling a chair near Himchan and Zelo.

“Hyung, you still never mentioned who this is that caused Youngjae-hyung all this stress.” Zelo edged the conversation back on track, knowing that if he didn’t Himchan would continue of in his tangent. Whether it would be on purpose or not the younger had yet to figure out.

“He’s….” Himchan sighed, rubbing his temples. Should he even be telling Zelo? This wasn’t his story to tell, and he had promised Youngjae that the two would never speak of Jinsoo ever again. Of course, unless Youngjae allowed it. But Youngjae wasn’t here at the moment. Zelo did deserve answers, though. It wasn’t fair to leave the younger panicking in the dark, not when the youngest cared so much about Youngjae. It was like not telling the youngest child that their older sibling was in the hospital. It was a cruel and unusual punishment.

“He’s Youngjae’s ex-boyfriend.” Both Himchan and Zelo stared at Jongup dumbfounded. Their jaws slightly agape at the guard dog’s words.

“How-”

“I did some research after the meeting,” Jongup said nonchalantly. Himchan was about to open his mouth again, slight agitation in his thoughts. Had Daehyun asked the younger to pry into Youngjae’s private? No matter how much the CEO loved Youngjae he had no right to dig up Youngjae’s past without the younger’s permission. “And before you jump to conclusions, hyung, no Daehyun did not ask me to do this. I did it on my own accord,” Jongup let out a sigh. “Woojin’s trying to hurt Daehyun by hurting Youngjae. And I’ll be damned than to walk into a battlefield without some intelligence.”

“How much do you know…” Himchan asked warily, still stunned at how capable the guard dog was. And how frightening he could become when it came to threats against Daehyun.

“Not much. Just that Jinsoo was Youngjae’s boyfriend back in college. Top ranked student in medicinal biology and neurology. Well-liked by students and professors alike. Apparently many were surprised that he dated Youngjae,” Jongup read out the information he received from his sources. “The information was superficial. It doesn’t explain why Youngjae acted like he did, though…”

Zelo just stared at the guard dog still shocked and dumbfounded. How had the elder manage to delve into Youngjae’s past so quickly and efficiently? Honestly it was quite frightening. He was like a secret spy or mercenary. Zelo had thought that he knew Jongup best, besides Daehyun. But it seems that the elder had a side that Zelo never saw, or that the elder never allowed him to see. A side that was shrouded in mystery and danger? The glint in Jongup’s eyes told Zelo that there was more to guard dog than all bark.

“The bastard was an abusive f**ker that’s what he was,” Himchan growled. “‘Dated Youngjae,’ more like treated him like a pet.”

“What do you mean, hyung…” Zelo cringed at Himchan’s words. He had an inkling as to what the elder was talking about, yet he didn’t want to believe it. He couldn’t believe that his strong, sassy, take no Youngjae-hyung had been degraded to a pet.

“I can’t tell you the details, pup…” Himchan sympathetically patted Zelo’s shoulder. “He just...that bastard just got a kick about manipulating Youngjae in anyway possible...and Youngjae was just so naive back then...so lost that he couldn’t differentiate love and abuse…” Himchan ran his hands over his face, feeling tears of frustration and anger. “I should have seen the signs sooner. Done something faster, damn it…”

“It’s not your fault, hyung,” Jongup gently rubbed soothing circles on Himchan’s back. “The only one at fault is that Jinsoo.”

“Can we go castrate him?” Zelo could feel his blood boil thinking of all the possible abuse that Jinsoo could have inflicted on Youngjae. “I’m pretty sure we have some leftover hydrochloric acid.”

“We could push him in the 6th floor broom closet, there are no security cameras there,” Jongup joined into the plot. “No witnesses no crime.” Zelo and Jongup smiled slightly at each other. They missed this.

“There is some diethyl ether in the backroom we could set his on fire while we’re at it.” Himchan grinned. All three bursted out into laughter at their ridiculous, with about 30% being true plotting. After all, no one was going to hurt their friend on their watch. Who would want to go up against a Mama Bear and two pups anyways?

“I’m glad Youngjae-hyung is okay…” Zelo awkwardly rubbed his arm as he turned back and forth in his chair. His glancing up every so often to see the guard dog that was watching him intently.

“Yeah, he gave Daehyun and I a near heart attack…” A small forlorn smile spread on Jongup’s lips, his arms resting on the back of the chair. The awkward silence fell in between the two since Himchan had left them to go deal with some paper work.

“So…” Jongup’s ears perked up at the sound of Zelo’s voice. With how the younger was acting earlier, He thought Zelo would never want to speak him again. “How were you able to find out so much about Youngjae-hyung?”

Jongup’s eyes went wide for a moment before his lips formed a tight line, the cogs in his mind working. “I have my sources.” Zelo furrowed his brows.

“What sources?” Zelo prodded further. What the hell was the guard dog hiding?

“It’s not important, Zelo,” Jongup’s voice became stern causing the younger to flinch. “Sorry…”

“Sorry. That’s all you say,” Zelo grumbled, glaring at Jongup. He had somehow reached his limit. He was sick and tired of all this mystery, having so many questions with only ‘sorry’ as the answer. “What are you, Jongup!? Some spy or something!? Like why is it that anything I ask you the answer is only ‘Sorry??’” Zelo ruffled his soft blonde locks in frustration.

“What do you want me to say Zelo?” Jongup too was feeling stubborn. He didn’t want to be this way. He didn’t want to hide things from the younger, but it was for the younger’s own benefit. He was getting so frustrated at the situation of having his hands tied with no way of winning.

“I want you to tell me what’s going on!? Am I not trust worthy?” Zelo sighed, runninng his fingers through his hairs. “Even if you don’t like me the same way I like you, we’re still friends right? But even then I know nothing about you! I mean I thought I did!” Zelo’s usual cheery voice slowly rising in volume as the fury boiled in him.

“Why does friendship mean that I have to tell you my life story?” Jongup glared, keeping his calm collected demeanor. If Zelo was becoming a fiery ball of frustration, Jongup was becoming an ice cold robot. “Just because you’re my friend does not mean you are entitled to know everything about me.”

“I want to know because I care about you, you asshat!” Zelo shouted, he could feel fierce angry tears to form in his eyes. And he was pissed. Pissed at himself for letting Jongup’s words get to him. For making him so emotional. He hated feeling like a damn child and he wasn’t about to let Jongup see him cry again. “I-” Zelo shook his head, walking towards the door. “I’m done, Jongup. I’m so damn tired. Tired of living in the dark, not knowing a damn thing about someone who I thought was my best friend. So you know what I’m done. Now you don’t have to worry about my entitlement.” Zelo’s tone was harsh like metal against a gravel floor as he pushed past Jongup, purposely hitting the guard dog’s shoulder as he exited the lab.

Jongup’s frown deepened as he clenched his fist. A part of him wanted to run after the younger and go on his knees and apologize. Apologize for hurting the younger so. For hiding so many things from him. Another part of him was frustrated. Pissed off that younger had to ruin the status quo like this. Pissed that he couldn’t even be true to his own feelings. Pissed that he just couldn’t do anything right in his life. He slammed his fist against the metal table, the pencil holder tipping over at the sudden rattle. “F**k!” He growled, running his fingers through his hair. Was happiness truly out of his reach?

Youngjae took a deep breath, opening and clenching his hands as he stood in front of the looming hospital building. He could do this. He had to do this. He wasn’t going to jeopardize a fantastic opportunity just because that bastard re-entered his life. He wasn’t going to let Jinsoo win. He wasn’t going to let Woojin win. A small part of him did wish that he had taken Daehyun up on his offer of coming with him to the hospital on the first day, but Youngjae knew that the elder had an important business meeting with some foreign traders. He knew Daehyun well enough that the elder would immediately cancel the meeting to be Youngjae’s support. And as sweet and lovely Youngjae thought the gesture, the rational part of him knew it would be a business move. Youngjae wasn’t stupid, however, and did bring some backup, just in case.

“Let’s go kick some ,” Himchan came up beside Youngjae, placing his sunglasses on top of his head as he gently patted the younger’s shoulder. “You ready?”

“As I’ll ever be I guess…” Youngjae flashed him a nervous smile, fiddling with his fingers. The urge to bite his fingernails grew stronger the closer they approached the hospital doors.

“You just let me know if that bastard tries anything and I’ll lob off his okay?” Himchan smiled sweetly at the younger, hugging his shoulder tightly.

“I don’t know if you’re joking or not.” Youngjae chuckled, so happy that the elder was here with him. Honestly, besides Daehyun, Himchan was a pillar for Youngjae. A rock for him through all the pain he had to endure. Despite all the teasing he does, he truly loved Himchan like a brother or parent and wouldn’t want to trade him for anything else in the world.

“I’m not joking. I know Yongguk has some friends in the police force so I’ll get away with it,” Himchan smirked. “Plus I’ll be doing the world a public service. Who knows I’ll even get a Nobel Peace prize.” Youngjae and Himchan both chuckled at the thought as they entered the hospital lobby. The smell of hand sanitizer and clorox seemed to permeate through every inch of the room.

“Youngjae you made it!” Youngjae stiffened at the voice he so hated. Himchan hugging the younger’s shoulder tighter to ensure that he would be okay. Jinsoo ran up to both Himchan and Youngjae, a bright smile on his face. “Himchan, you’re here too!”

“Like I would let him come into the lion’s den alone.” Himchan growled, glaring daggers at Jinsoo.

“Funny as ever. It’s nice to see you again.” Jinsoo chuckled, but Himchan scoffed. Seeing this good saintly act made Himchan sick to his stomach. He would probably have to be admitted into this hospital after dealing with this bastard all day.

“The feeling is not mutual.” Himchan sneered, but Jinsoo’s perfect smile never faltered.

“You okay, Youngjae? You don’t look so good.” Jinsoo flashed concern on his face as he approached Youngjae with the back of his hand to check the younger’s temperature.

“Don’t touch me.” Youngjae flinched back, avoiding the elder’s hand. Jinsoo slightly frowned a bit, but complied with Youngjae’s wishes as he lowered his hand. Or so Youngjae thought.

“Aw, Youngjae don’t be like that. I’m just worried about you.” Jinsoo gently caressed the back of his hand against Youngjae’s cheek. It happened so quickly that the younger had no time to react, only to feel the bile in his stomach churning at the touch.

“Yo bastard, did you not hear him. Hands f**king off.” Himchan growled slapping Jinsoo’s hand away.

“Don’t be jealous, Himchan. You’re still Youngjae's favorite.” Jinsoo chuckled and placed his hands in his medical jacket.

“You can bet I am ya wanna be Dr. House,” Himchan scoffed. “You wanna know why? Cause I ain’t some snake that sold his soul to the devil.”

“I really wonder how you can handle his venomous tongue sometimes, Jae.” Jinsoo chuckled, but Youngjae merely glared at the ‘affectionate’ nickname. That right was only reserved for people he cared about and he definitely did not give a about Jinsoo.

“Same way I dealt with your pretty words.” Youngjae glared, a small burst of courage bubbled in him.

“Well, I hope you can deal with them just like before then,” Jinsoo grinned, stepping sideways to gesture to the two of them to follow him. “After all, they are only meant for you,” Youngjae glared at him. “I’ll give you guys a tour of the facilities.”
