"I missed you." Sungyeol breathes against his neck.
"Me too." Myungsoo murmurs.
It's been a few years since he started traveling for work, and as time went by he seemed to be away from home more and more. But every time he returns to his little home town, his husband is there to welcome him with sweet smiles and warm hugs.
Even though he doesn't want to, Myungsoo finally lets go of Sungyeol and interlaces their fingers. They walk side by side, talking about whatever comes to mind, simply happy for the chance to be together.
"So your mom was mad?"
"Yeah, she wanted to make a really nice dinner the next time I was in town."
He starts swinging their hands in time with their steps. "Hm, I guess that makes sense."
"It doesn't matter to me. As long as you're here." Myungsoo leans in and kisses his lover on the cheek.
They continue walking, and soon enough they're in the field behind the house where Myungsoo grew up.
"Do you want to go in, or..?" Sungyeol asks.
"Let's just go later, so my mom can make something nice."
"Myung, she missed you a lot." he pulls on his hand.
"As much as you did?"
"Almost." he smiles, leading Myungsoo towards the house.
The entire family welcomes them happily, the smell of Mrs. Kim's cooking wafting through the house. In the small town that they live in, she's always been well known for her delicious cooking, and even worked as a chef in one of the few restaurants in town for a while.
"Your father's missed you, though he's out of town a lot lately. I guess that's what you two have in common." Mrs. Kim smiles from the kitchen. "Have you already been to visit the Lee house?"
"Not yet, but I think we'll go tomorrow." Myungsoo answers over his shoulder.
Sungyeol smiles and nods. "They wanted you to visit today, but I told them that you'd want to come here first." he continues to watch Myungsoo and his younger brother Moonsoo, who are in an intense round of Mario Kart. It's funny how people always lean in the direction they steer, even though it's obviously not going to do anything.
"You should've invited them for dinner! We've got plenty of room."
"Oh, it's fine Mrs. Kim, we didn't want to impose." he assures her.
"Next time, then. Can you set the table Moonsoo?"
He continues to mash buttons on the controller. "Just a second - ah!" he cries in defeat, before getting up to do as told.
"Alright, I call Luigi." Sungyeol says, sliding onto the couch beside Myungsoo and picking up the controller.
Myungsoo smirks. "It's on."
They play without taking their eyes off the screen for even a second, and Sungyeol ends up winning even though they're pretty evenly matched. Myungsoo puts down his controller and snuggles into his husband's side. Soon, Sungyeol feels kisses up his jaw and he kisses him back once on the lips before murmuring something about waiting until later.
"Dinner's ready, come sit and let's catch up."
"Try to come by again before you leave." Moonsoo tells them.
Sungyeol smiles at Myungsoo and nods. "I'll make sure he does."
"And don't stay out too late, it's getting cold. Sleep lots while you're away, okay? It's important to when you move around so much." Myungsoo's mother reminds him.
"I will, mom." he hugs her, then his brother before taking Sungyeol's hand in his own. "I'm in town for another two weeks, so I'll visit soon."
"Alright. See you."
"Bye." he grins and shuts the door behind them.
Sungyeol stares up at him, hands in pockets and chin buried in his scarf. "I can't believe you can still climb it."
"Are you saying I'm old? I'm only 28, Sungyeol."
"Well, yeah, but you're really clumsy."
Myungsoo scoffs, "Whatever, just get up here."
Sungyeol rolls his eyes and starts climbing the large, nearly leafless tree. He heaves himself onto a branch beside Myungsoo and leans back against the trunk, panting lightly.
"See? You're older than me, and you can do it."
He glares at the other in response before turning to face the town. The moon is low and full, casting a white light on the buildings and lighting up Sungyeol's face in a way that leaves Myungsoo breathless.
"What are you doing?" Sungyeol asks when he sees the other's intense gaze set on him.
He leans in and kisses him slowly, theirbreath mingling in the cold air. "I love you."
"I know." he smiles.
Myungsoo laughs and steals another kiss.
