CHAPTER 43
Lord of Darkness
Jaejoong swiveled and spiraled down into a kneeling position to deflect his father’s attack. He used the flat of his blade to prevent the Sword of Truth from cutting through his father’s sword. He couldn’t his skill to stop his sword in time if it broke his father's sword and cut through the latter's body.
Putting all his strength on his swordhand, he pushed his father’s blade away from him before stepping back into a standing position.
Dara must have entered the inner sanctum by now. Whether she had betrayed him and became part of the Oracle again, he didn’t know. Cloud hovered above, he had chosen to watch him fight his father rather than go after Dara.
"Your father is a very good swordsman!" commented Cloud. The cloud couldn’t hide the excitement in his voice.
King Won Bin was one of the best swordsmen during his youth. He was the one who taught Jaejoong to never treat an attacker as an opponent but simply as the opposite direction of energy.
His father was using the energy of Jaejoong's attacks to swiftly deflect the Sword of Truth and quickly return a strike! Jaejoong suddenly realized that he had been treating his father as an opponent. No wonder he was always on the defense!
"You have been fighting for several minutes now, but his sword had remained intact and undamaged even when the Sword of Truth’s blade hits it directly!" observed Cloud.
Cloud was right! Jaejoong wanted to end this duel as fast as he could by breaking his father's sword but even when their blades meet, his father’s sword remained unbroken! All the other swords that met the blade of the Sword of Truth shattered or broke. Had the Sword of Truth lost its power? Did it become an ordinary sword?
Jaejoong quickly turned his body out of the way of his father’s sword. The position also gave him the chance to study his father's sword. It looked like a normal sword, except, there was a thin sheen of light covering it! The light was barely visible unless you were inches away from it.
The sheen of light only meant one thing. His father’s sword was enchanted to protect it from the destructive powers of the Sword of Truth! Whether such enchantment came from the Oracle or from either one of the regents’ magic, was not really important.
This information though made him realize that their fight would last longer than he anticipated. He had strength and stamina, but his father had the experience and knowledge of several decades. It was also obvious from the way his father had been attacking him that the only way this fight would end was if one of them dies or surrender.
He had no intention of dying or surrendering! He had come this far, and he would not stop until he had destroyed the Oracle.
