Effleurer
“Oppa.” Aerin softly called, peeking in, looking for her brother as she quietly pushed the door to Jongin’s waiting room. The man at the other end of the room turned his head at the sweet voice calling him. He smiled and motioned her to come in.
“Hey,” Jongin greeted her as he pulled her into a bear hug before placing a soft kiss on top of her head. “You look so pretty.” He said, earning a small giggle from the little sister.
“You look so fine yourself, Mr. Kim.” The girl complimented, flattening the slight crumple she saw on Jongin’s vest. Her brother, indeed, looked exceptionally good with the ivory white three-piece suit he was wearing. His jet-black hair was slicked back neatly, showing off his glorious forehead. She looked up and met his eyes who was intently staring at her. Aerin smiled brightly, but her brother knew she was actually trying hard to hold her eyes from leaking.
Today was Jongin and Soo Jung’s wedding day.
And his little sister had been clinging to him these past days, reasoning that she wouldn’t be able to cling to him as much after he married to her soon-to-be sister in law. “You wouldn’t want to ruin your make up, Sweetheart.” Jongin teased and she only rolled her eyes, punching his chest with her small fist. “I will always be here, anytime you need me, okay? This doesn’t change anything between us, you know.” He said, gently patting her cheek.
“No. It does change. Now I have to share my brother with someone else when all this time I have him only for myself.” She pouted and made Jongin laugh. “But I know you’re forever my brother, and I know you’ll always be here for me.” The girl repeated, not trying to show him that she understood, but more to herself, like she was trying to convince herself that Jongin wouldn’t go anywhere, he promised her that. “Plus, I now have a sister.” She said with an excited smile.
Jongin laughed while tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear. “You can have her all you want, that, I can promise you.” He said, earning a chuckle from the girl.
But then she suddenly sighed, and Jongin couldn’t help but concerned with the sudden change of emotion. He lifted up her chin and met her eyes, silently questioning. “I’m just… wondering how nice it would be if Mom and Dad were here.” She tried hard to smile, but Jongin, of course, couldn’t miss the grief that clearly shown on her eyes.
“Oh, Baby.” Jongin hugged her and gently patted her back. He dropped another kiss on her hair before slightly pulling away and made her looked at him. “We both know Mom and Dad are always with us,” Aerin caught the sad glint on his eyes, and she felt bad for ruining the happy mood. “Here.” Jongin pointed to her heart, and he let out a smile. The little sister nodded. She knew. She believed that their parents were there now, watching both their son and daughter being strong for each other.
“I’m so happy for you, Oppa. You deserve everything good in the world, and I know being together with Soo Jung unnie is one of it.” The girl leaned her head on his chest.
“You know you’ll find your happiness too, right?”
“I know. I think already did.” She answered with a smile.
Jongin too was smiling as he realised there was someone else’s presence in the room. “And I think he’s coming to fetch you. You don’t want him to wait, do you?” He whispered, patting her shoulder. The girl pulled away from the hug and turned her head to the door to find Baekhyun walking up to them with a smile plastered on his face. She took a step aside and let her brother pulled Baekhyun into a hug.
“Taking back your princess, I see.” Jongin said as he pulled away, patting the younger’s back, and smiled teasingly.
Baekhyun laughed before answering, “I’ll make sure to keep the princess safe, you should go get your queen now, Hyung.”
“Oh, guys, please.” The little sister rolled her eyes listening to both men’s exchange, making them laughed in glee. “Actually, I came to tell you to prepare yourself, Oppa. Soo Jung unnie looks super pretty. You’re so lucky a goddess like her is willing to be your wife.” Jongin grinned happily at that piece of information.
“Jongin,” Another voice came from the door interrupting the banter, “Come on, it’s time.” Junmyeon motioned the groom to come with a wide smile spreading on his lips.
Aerin watched as her brother walked to the door, trying to contain all kind of mixed feeling she was having. But mostly, she was happy because she could finally see her brother being happy with the person he loved. And there was nothing more important than knowing that.
“Shall we?” Her rambling mind was interrupted by a soft voice. He offered his hand, and she nodded with a smile before giving her hand for him to take.
Aerin was sitting at one of the tables a bit far from the crowd, watching as the people gathered to celebrate one of the happiest moments in someone’s life. Soo Jung and Jongin chose a private garden for their wedding venue, and with the spring bloom which came gracing with warmth after the harsh winter, the garden became even prettier. Baekhyun was pulled by Jongin to be introduced to one of their business partners earlier. She was a bit tired after greeting some people too, so the girl quietly told him that she wanted to find a seat, and Baekhyun, who couldn’t just leave the guest at that moment, promised to follow her later.
“Strawberry cake.”
The girl looked up to see a familiar man, putting a plate of strawberry cake on the table right in front of her. He wore a simple black suit. His hair was styled up neatly, looking good as he usually did. The man took a seat beside her before taking a spoon of the cake from his own plate.
“Wah, this is totally your taste.” He said.
Aerin tasted for herself and hummed in delight as soon as the strawberry cream melted inside combined with the crunchiness of strawberry slices. Indeed, it totally matched her taste bud. And it’s totally not Jongin’s. Now she learnt that it wouldn’t be difficult for her to find a place to hang out with Soo Jung since she knew the sister in law picked the sweets for this wedding herself. “As long as I could remember, you also have sweet tooth like me, Mr. Oh.” She stated, earning a small laugh from the man sitting beside her.
“Yeah, I still do.” Sehun took another spoonful as he threw his gaze to the people scattered around the garden. He noticed someone from afar was watching them, and he couldn’t help but laugh at it. “Your unofficial fiancé won’t be mad because I sit here with you, will he?”
She turned her head at him in disbelief and laughed at how he’s using the word ‘unofficial’. But he wasn’t wrong for using that because they weren’t officially en
