Effleurer
“I got her location. Just wait at home, I will go get her.”
“Oh thank God. Thanks, hyung. There’s no doubt you hired the best personnel.” Jongin praised his hyung, a small smile spread on his lips. It just felt like a heavy weight suddenly lifted off of his shoulder.
“I know,” Junmyeon answered from the other end of the call and smile proudly.
Late last night Aunt Jung called him while crying, saying that his little sister hadn’t yet to come home even when it was already that late. Aunt Jung also said that the younger sister usually went home with her friend which unfortunately couldn’t give her a lift that evening. Aerin didn’t inform the chauffeur to pick her up, so she was probably going home by herself. No one could reach her phone nor knowing her whereabouts. There’s this strange panic feeling spontaneously creeping inside him when he heard the news. His little sister was missing, and he could feel his heart aching.
Junmyeon was long asleep when Jongin called him. He picked up the call with his eyes half opened. But when Jongin mentioned that the little sister was missing, his eyes shot opened almost immediately. Worries quickly found its way to replace his sleepiness. A lot of horrible things flashed through his mind all of a sudden. There were a lot of things about the little girl’s safety that he didn’t tell Jongin, yet, since the said man was too ignorant when it came to his little sister. Junmyeon couldn’t help but worried. The things happened at the annual meeting of the company the day before somewhat disturbed him. He quickly pressed some certain numbers before pressing the dial button. The man waited for some bored connecting tone before someone finally answered from the other end. He had to call some certain person he knew, telling them to quickly find the girl who was currently missing. And of course, he demanded to find her by the morning. For the rest of the night, Junmyeon was wide awake hoping to hear the good news as soon as possible.
The very first thing she felt when the girl fluttered her eyes open was a pair of arms. A pair of arms which draped around her delicate body, securing herself from any possible harm. She couldn’t help but felt warmth suddenly flowing through her veins. She closed her eyes, savouring the moment, remembering the calmest night she has ever had. She felt like she had just a really nice sleep worth for a week. A long and comfort sleep, without any nightmare disturbing her as per usual.
Whose arms are these? Is it Chanyeol’s?
No.
Her eyes shot opened when the realization hit her.
She blinked her eyes trying to get a clearer view of her surroundings. She looked at the windows in front of her. It wasn’t her room. It wasn’t Chanyeol’s either. She tried to remember what happened earlier. The bus, the sudden commotion, car crash, her scene, and of course, the man who handed her the medicine. The girl took a look at her clothes and suddenly felt relieved when she was still on her uniform, buttons were still at their places. If she turned her body, the owner of the arms would be awake—as she still could feel and hear the regular sound of breath coming right behind her. She knew that he—yes, she knew it’s a ‘he’—was still asleep.
The girl wouldn’t want to lie to herself that it was really comfortable. If she could, she would want to stop the time, to stay there longer. Because for the first time in her life, she felt really safe.
She decided to turn to whoever it was behind her. At least she knew from the hands that he wasn’t an ahjussi—or a ert. If he was a ert, she was sure he would do something bad to her right away during her unconsciousness. If he was a bad person, she wouldn’t even sleep there feeling like she has just having the best rest she could ever ask. It was strange, but she didn’t even feel scared.
Because, although she knew he was a stranger, her guts were telling her that he wouldn’t harm her.
Aerin stirred herself carefully and turned her body to face the owner of the arms. Now she had completely turned her body—with her eyes still closed. He was a sleepyhead, she mentally told herself when he didn’t even feel the girl stirring. Carefully, the girl opened her eyes.
And there, she got a pretty much clearer view.
Those familiar eyes, and nose, and lips.
It was the same person she had met many times before.
Her heart started to beat faster. A strange flow went from the tip of her head down to her spine, but she admitted, it was kind of nice. She also didn’t miss how her stomach was suddenly full of butterflies flying to every direction.
He was beautiful, and it’s the first time she realized it. His cold appearance totally covered by how innocent he looked when he was sleeping, very much looked like a baby, she thought. His hair was sticking up here and there, attempting the girl to bring her fingers up to fix them. When she was about to touch his hair, she immediately pulled her hands back, worried that she might wake him up if she touched him.
“Having fun staring?” The man suddenly muttered as he slowly blinked his eyes. Aerin who was surprised, got up in a flash and sat on the side of the bed, shifting her gaze around, anywhere but on him.
“I—I’m not staring.” She stuttered.
The man let out a scoff followed by a hoarse laugh. “I caught you, though.” He sat before stretching his limb and massaged his left arm. “You’re so heavy my arms felt so numb, you know? It was under you the whole night.” He said nonchalantly.
Aerin just suddenly grabbed the pillow from the bed and threw it at him. “Why did you even sleep here, you ert!” She hit him with the pillow continuously.
“Yah! Stop it!” He tried to avoid her attack but she didn’t look like she was going to stop anytime soon. “You had the whole blanket covering you but you’re still cold and kept talking nonsense in your sleep.” The man said as he tried to dodge the girl’s pillow attack. Aerin suddenly stopped to listen to what he was saying. “I only tried to warm you up.” He scratched the back of his head when he noticed that she was paying attention. “Then you stopped talking and started to sleep calmly.” He was now staring at her with such a meaningful look.
The girl hung her head low, feeling the warmth slowly crawling up to her face. He could see the tinge of orange gradually appeared on her cheeks. “Thank you,” She said with her soft voice while still hanging her head low.
He just sat there staring at the girl who was playing with the fabric of the pillow. The cold look that used to be plastered on her face had completely disappeared. The cold he saw many times; once was that time when he saw her dancing under the drizzling rain, then she fell down but completely ignored his helping hand. The next one was when he was hospitalized because of the shot. She looked cold outside, but he knew that there was another side of her that he hadn’t found out. Yet.
Just… what was she?
Why did he care?
Watching her sleeping the whole night just made it even worse. She was trembling and shaking through her whole sleep. He had no choice but trying to calm her down. Because seeing her somehow reminded him of something, and he actually didn’t want to remember it. It was still fresh on his mind how the girl became more relax on her sleep after he held her hand and gently engulfed her on a soothing hug, merely just to warm her up. He remembered how her petite body was just felt right in his embrace
