Effleurer
The number you are calling— Chanyeol groaned as he cut the call once again. Her phone was probably turned off since he already attempted to call her for the umpteenth time. The boy promised to take her to her parents’ grave this morning, but he came to her house to find out that the girl was missing since last night. Aunt Jung was frantically trying to call everyone she knew to find the missing heiress when Chanyeol came. The boy couldn’t help but panicked when he found out that she had gone by herself. There’s a lot of negative things running on his mind right at the moment, and he was afraid if something happened to her especially because of the incident that happened some days back.
“Aunt, I will try to check on the hill. Let’s hope that she would already be there.” He said with a gentle tone as he tried to calm the older.
“Ah, Chanyeol ssi, wait.” The older stopped him. She opened her closet and took out a shirt and a sweater. She also took a woollen coat before handing them to Chanyeol. “She doesn’t seem to wear any coat since everything is here.” The boy took the sweater and coat from her. “This stubborn kid, I already asked her to go with the chauffeur but she didn’t listen.”
Chanyeol only smiled at her, “Don’t worry, she will be okay.” He tried to convince her and patted her shoulder. “I’m going now. I will let you know when I find her.”
The boy was still trying to call her while driving to the place he had on his mind. The last time he contacted her was when he offered to take her to the grave together, as he knew that her health wasn’t at her best right at the moment. Because knowing how stubborn she was, he didn’t believe that she would go with her chauffeur. At some point, he gave up trying to call his phone and silently hoping that she would already be there when he arrived.
It took him around an hour to drive to the hill where her parents were buried. Chanyeol went out from his car, bringing the bag with her clothes inside. He had been there few times since the girl frequently asked him to keep her company. Whenever she was down, this was the very first place on her mind to go to. So it didn’t take him long to find it after carefully climbing the hill.
But Aerin wasn’t there.
She heard two loud sounds of fired gun behind her and then everything went really fast right after. The last thing painted clearly on her mind was the image of the person behind her turning around in a flash, shielding her from the hot bullet. Aerin shut her eyes as his body stumbled down and the man fell on top of her. The girl felt her back crashed on the hard paved ground. When she opened her eyes, everything around her was red. Even her pastel green dress was splotched with red. When she tried to lift the man on top of her, she gasped as she watched the fresh blood oozing from his back and other one from his upper arm. She was shaking too much to even stand from the ground, but she was aware that she needed to be fast if she wanted this man to survive.
Now the girl was there, sitting on a chair right beside a bed with a man lying down on it. He was still sleeping. The man, whom soon she called her saviour, was the same man she saw at the kindergarten the other day. It was that time when she crashed hard on the ground after she failed trying to do the entrechat, and he came out of nowhere, giving out his hand trying to help her to stand. It was no wonder why his voice seems familiar to her ears.
She could see his right upper part wrapped with clean bandage. Another one was on his upper arm. She somehow winced when she looked at it. She really did hear the gun fired twice, or was it two different guns fired at the same time, she didn’t really notice. She owed him her life because that man protected her. If it wasn’t for him using his body as a shield, she would be the one lying there lifeless—or worst, she would already be dead.
The doctor said it was quite fortunate since she got to the hospital quickly because the man literally lost a lot of blood. An IV and also a pouch of blood dripped into his bloodstream to help him. Her mind right now was kind of chaotic. Aerin didn’t have any idea why those men were after her in the first place, and she couldn’t help but thinking about the man whom she met when she was with Chanyeol some other days back. Who are you? A question crossed her mind as she watched his chest heaving up and down syncing with his steady breath. How do we meet again in this kind of circumstances?
Rrrrr…
The phone on her hand vibrated for the nth time already. Aerin flashed a look on the screen to see her home number was calling. It was already six in the morning and she had been spending her time watching the stranger who had saved her. Her maid was probably looking for her everywhere and already scolded the security staff for letting her go by herself, and it was no wonder why her phone kept ringing. Aerin felt a bit guilty somehow, but really, she didn’t have a heart to leave this stranger alone since she didn’t know how and where to find his family.
Being the daughter of an influential person at the hospital didn’t benefit her this time. She had people watching her every move. The girl caught some nurses were whispering behind her back, talking about the heiress who brought a bleeding and unconscious man, his shirt damped with blood while the girl herself was limping. They rarely seen her, so it wasn’t a really good impression to show up with that kind of condition after disappearing for a while. But she decided to ignore everyone and requested to move him to the VVVIP room from the emergency unit, which access was limited so the girl could avoid those annoying staring eyes. She also asked—well, somewhat threatening actually—everyone not to call her house because she promised she would do it herself after the doctors were assured that she was fine.
She should’ve been on her parents’ grave right now since it was the commemoration day. But she took a look once again at the stranger before deciding to stay a little bit more. At the check up this morning, the doctor said he should wake up soon as the medicine should’ve lost its effect.
Aerin was folding the blanket on the couch she was using the whole night when her phone suddenly vibrated once again, still with the same calling number.
“Answer it…” She heard a groan and automatically turned her head towards the bed. “It’s so noisy.”
Aerin sauntered closer to the bed, snatching her phone from the night stand beside him and quickly turned off the phone. “Oh, you’re awake, thank God.” She said with her soft voice.
“Oh, you can talk, thank God.” He scoffed, earning a frown from the girl standing beside his bed. She watched the man lifting up his healthy arm covering his face and had his eyes closed. “You should’ve just left me. Why did you even bring me here?” He murmured.
“You saved me.” She answered shortly, not so surpris
