TWENTY-NINE: Chaos in the Court Your least favorite day came yet again, and you wished there was something you could do about it. Abnormal days were torture days to you. For one, monster classes still drive you insane most of the time, and the only normal subject for the day turned out to be P.E., which was in its own way more terrifying than monster classes. And not to mention today is the interclass tennis championship wherein all the students from all sophomore classes will be watching, along with most of the Physical Education faculty as well as the members of the Student Press who will be covering the game for the next school paper issue (which by the way you didn’t know existed). You were never really good at physical stuff, and you especially at sports, which led you to wonder how you and Chanyeol won before and why on earth did you celebrate for your win. You just hoped that you wouldn’t do anything stupid in front of all those people watching. Then there was also the issue about Lu Han. Your stomach flipped unpleasantly every time you think about how often you would inevitably be seeing each other today. The two of you never talked since your last fight, not even to annoy each other. And the last time you saw of him was during dinner Monday night. You’ve made special effort the whole day yesterday to avoid him, going as far as skipping lunch and taking your dinner long before dinner time, and because it was Tuesday, you didn’t have to deal with the trouble of seeing him at practice since it was soccer team’s free day. You felt a little guilty to not spend mealtimes with Ji Min though she said she understands, but you comforted yourself with the thought that she was eating with the soccer team so she’s probably not all that lonely. Today however, is a different story. Ever since the soccer team let you install a chat app and added you to their group chat, Chanyeol has been showering you with greetings; all of it attached with a selca of himself every time. You found it both funny and peculiar, and at times annoying, but nonetheless thoughtful. You learned that he was often called the ‘Happy Virus’ by their fangirls, and you thought the title suited him perfectly. Good morning. =)   You smiled like an idiot while you read Lay’s chat over and over again. “What are you smiling there for? Hurry or you’re going to be late!” Ji Min told you. “Oh, right!” You exclaimed and rushed to the bathroom. You were still smiling when you came out, even when you were eating breakfast, and even while you were walking to school. I didn’t know it would feel this nice to receive a greeting from the person you like at the start of the day, you smiled to yourself, though you know that he probably also sent the message to everybody. But it’s enough to make me feel happy the whole day. However, you couldn’t have been more wrong. Your smile was immediately gone the moment PE class came. “Ugh! I’m feeling really nervous right now. Can’t I just quit and have someone sub for me?” You whined as you changed into your PE uniform. “It’s gonna be okay. Who knows, your team might win and get those precious one hundred points,” Ji Min encouraged. “Well, that’s one thing I can feel motivated about,” you answered. “What’s that?” Ji Min asked. She suddenly took your hand and eyed it with wide eyes. You followed her line of vision and realized that she was looking at the large bruise just above your wrist. “It’s nothing,” you said and quickly hid your hand behind your back. “What do you mean ‘nothing’? The truth was, the bruise wasn’t just ‘nothing’ and it did hurt a lot. The bruise was due to the incident last Monday with Lee Hee Jun. It was worse yesterday that it hurt even when you’re only writing. You didn’t want any more trouble than you already have so you just decided to not make the whole thing a big issue. The both of you headed to the courts after changing. The bleachers were already swarming with students and you could feel your knees starting to buckle.
