I’m still mad at the both of you for getting me into detention!” He groused. “Then throw those things at Mr. Shim,” Kai answered, referring to your language teacher. “It’s not our fault that you always get on his nerves.” “You!” Chanyeol yelled at Kai. “You better explain this to Xiumin-hyung!” “Whatever,” Kai answered. “I skipped practice yesterday because of detention and today it’s the same thing. Damn it! He’s really gonna kill me this time,” Chanyeol ranted to no one in particular. “Don’t worry, I’ll explain it to him,” Sehun told Chanyeol. “You will?” “Yep,” Sehun answered. “You really are the best maknae, Sehun-ah,” Chanyeol said, ruffling Sehun’s hair. “I’ll tell him you’ve been noisy again,” Sehun told him. “Why, you little –,” Chanyeol muttered as he moved to grab Sehun but Sehun had already started running and hid himself behind you. “YA!” You yelled. “Wait, till I catch you, you little twerp!” Chanyeol yelled as he continued to grab Sehun but Sehun used you as a shield. “Stop it, you two!” You yelled as Sehun whirled you wherever Chanyeol was while Chanyeol’s hands were dangerously flying in all directions. Sehun suddenly released you to run away just when you stepped back to avoid Chanyeol’s arms. You lost your balance and started falling backwards. You expected to hit something like a desk or a chair but your back hit something both soft and hard at the same time. You found yourself leaning on Kris’ chest. Sehun and Chanyeol froze, as though they were little children caught doing something bad. “Sorry,” you muttered. Kris only looked at you as he held your shoulders to help you stand properly. He looked over at Chanyeol and Sehun indifferently then calmly walked out of the room without a care for the world. “Whew!” Chanyeol sighed when Kris was out of sight. You looked at him and Sehun inquiringly. “That guy gives me the creeps,” Chanyeol told you. “Oh, you’re scared of him?” You asked mockingly. “Aren’t you? He always looks like he’s ready to kill anyone who would cross his path. And he’s always so cold and distant and doesn’t talk to anyone except for that panda in Moon class who’s equally as creepy.” “His name is Tao. Chen-hyung told me that he also keeps to himself,” Sehun added. “It’s better to stay away from them Joo Ri,” Chanyeol told you. “Chanyeol, just because they’re not as loud as you doesn’t mean they’re bad people,” you answered. Kai and Sehun stifled a laugh. “Ya!” Chanyeol reacted. “I’m just saying this for your own good. And people like that often have dark secrets. And rumor has it that nobody knows what kind of monsters they are,” he insisted. “Well, I don’t know what kind of monsters you guys are,” you answered. “And I don’t plan to know,” you added before Chanyeol could say anything. “But Chanyeol’s right, you know,” Kai told you. “What, you’re scared of him too?” “No. I’m not scared of anything,” he said confidently. “But I also think it’s best for you to avoid him. He smells like danger.” “Smells,” you repeated, your insides shivering at his animalistic term. You shook the thought away and gathered your things. “See you guys this afternoon.” “Why don’t we take lunch together?” Kai grinned. “I’m not going to the cafeteria,” you quickly answered. “Where are you going?” Sehun asked. “To...fix something,” you answered while unconsciously clutching the tear on your skirt. You were glad it wasn’t that obvious when you’re standing. You saw Kai giving his usual smirk at the corner of your eye. “Gotta go. See ya,” you waved before he could make any more ersely annoying comments. You met Ji Min at the hallway and told her about your little skirt accident. “Wow, you can be such a klutz, you know that?” Ji Min remarked. “It’s because of that stupid door,” you scowled. “Don’t blame it on the poor lifeless thing.” “Well, I gotta fix this so will it be okay if you headed first to the cafeteria?” “It’s fine. I was about to tell you I’m not eating lunch today. I gotta go to the library to finish my homework. ARRRGGH! I can’t believe I’m ditching food for some stupid school stuff,” she exasperated. “Well then, I’ll see you after class.” “Okay, see ya! Don’t get yourself into trouble while I’m gone,” she said and went away. You rolled your eyes at her. She sounded exactly like Hye Bin when she’s sure you were gonna end up in some kind of trouble whenever you’re on your own. You headed to the school clinic. You don’t know why you ended up being there, but then you also don’t have any sewing stuff at the dorms. “Song Joo Ri!” Doctor Jung exclaimed when you came in. “Hi Doctor Jung,” you greeted. “I wasn’t sure if you’re in here or at the infirmary.” “I’m here during school hours. So what brings you here? You got yourself hurt again?” “I need a needle and a thread,” you told him. “You need stitching?” “Not me, my skirt,” you answered, showing him your skirt. “What were you doing to get your skirt torn like that?” Doctor Jung asked with a naughty smile on his face. “I had a fight with my door?” You answered sarcastically. Too many erts in this school. “Wait here while I get my sewing tools,” he said while offering you a seat. He came back later carrying a small kit. You thanked him as you took the kit from him. You busied yourself with your sewing while the doctor just stood there watching you with interest. “Ow!” You muttered when you pricked yourself. “You know it’s easier to sew it if you take it off,” Doctor Jung told you. You scowled at him. “I told you I’m only interested in big-chested girls. You look nothing more than a little kid to me,” he said. “Whatever! I’m not taking anything off – OW!” You exclaimed when you pricked yourself again. “Let me do that,” he said and motioned for you to hand him the needle but you looked at him suspiciously. “Stitching clothes is just like stitching people,” he said. You gave him one last contemplating look before finally handing the needle to him. He began stitching your skirt with expertise. “Doctor Jung, I was wondering how you knew my family? Did my father also attend this school?” “No, this school is new. It was officially opened five years ago. But your father and I had been close friends since long ago.” “Is that why you’re always helping me out?” “Yes,” he answered. “I see you like my own daughter.” “Pfft!. I don’t need a erted father,” you laughed. “Wait!” You said after a while. “You said long ago? You’re much younger than him. That can’t be. I mean how old are you?” “Let’s see,” he said as he looked up, “I’m two hundred and thirty five – no, two hundred and thirty six. Yes, two hundred and thirty six. Sorry, I get confused a lot since I got tired of counting my age.” “Two hundred and thirty six?!” You asked in shock. “Monsters generally have longer lives than humans, though the length of the lifespan is different with every kind,” he informed nonchalantly, as though he was only telling you that the sky is blue. Oh yeah, I do remember Ji Min telling me she was a hundred something. But I was out of my wits back then that I didn’t bother about it. “I see,” you said in amazement. “Well, if you and my father were close friend then I guess he must have also been on the crazy side,” you said, though you meant it as a joke. “Ya, you’re starting to hurt my feeling, young lady,” he said, flicking your forehead. “But yes, I’d say your father was a crazy man. Crazy enough to do things he shouldn’t have,” he said looking so suddenly serious, with a painful smile on his face. “What do you mean?” “Nothing! Just reminiscing old memories,” he answered while wearing his usual smile again. “There, it’s done.” You examined your skirt and found it neatly sewn together, as though it never got torn. “Wow! You’re really good at this.” “It’s easier to stitch clothes than skin,” he shrugged. “Thanks a lot for your help. I’ll be taking lunch now,” you bowed. “Oh by the way, students’ allowances your parents send you are now available at the accou
