The two of you were eating breakfast at the cafeteria and you couldn’t help but overhear the conversation from the girls at the table next to yours. “Who was the girl?” You heard one of the girls say. “No one knows. There are even rumors that she must be Kai’s girlfriend or something.” You coughed out the milk you were drinking, earning yourself a few curious stares from the tables nearby. Apparently, they thought I was his girlfriend, or at least that’s what the rumors say. It would be troublesome if they find out the girl was me. I don’t want any misunderstanding.” “Oh, I see. Don’t worry. But some of the boys from the soccer team already know about it,” he said, scratching his head. “Then can you tell them not to spread it?” “Alright.” “Whew! Thanks.” “I’ll be going now. Don’t carry a grudge against me alright?” “I won’t,” you laughed. Monsterology class started right after. Mr. Shim just continued the discussion about wolves. Kai wasn’t there during the whole class. Chanyeol told you that he’s probably cutting classes again, but he might show up for PE class. PE came right after. You gave a sigh when you remembered you were doing graded tennis games today. “Alright. For the graded games, we’ll be doing mixed doubles. Girls, fall in line and pick a number from the can on the left side. Boys on the right,” your teacher said when everyone was there. He was holding two cans with rolled papers inside. “Seven,” you muttered as you unrolled the paper. “Alright, find your partners. Make it quick,” your teacher instructed and put the cans away. “Who could my partner be,” you muttered as you glanced around at everyone. You shivered when your eyes landed on Lee Heejun. “Please don’t let it be him.” “Joo Ri, what’s your number?” Sehun asked you. “Seven. Yours?” “Three,” he said. “Oh,” you muttered disappointedly. Sehun eventually found his partner. Most have already found their partners now except for a few others like yourself, including Lee Heejun. “Number seven! Yo, partner, where are you?” You heard Chanyeol’s voice booming from among the crowd. You gave a truly relieved sigh and literally flung yourself onto Chanyeol. “Chanyeol!” You said joyfully as you hugged his arm. “Whoa Joo Ri!” He said, a little surprised. “I’m number seven!” You said and showed him your number. “Great! I’ve been searching for my partner since a while ago,” he said. “Sorry,” you muttered. “Well, let’s win this game,” he said. “Um, I can’t promise you that. You’ve seen me play. But I’ll do my best,” you said, scratching your head. “Just make sure to return the ball. Leave the points to me,” he said confidently. The games were divided into two brackets, the odds and evens. The teams will compete against each other in a ten-minute game and the winners from the two brackets will compete with the winning teams from the other classes for an interclass tennis championship next week. The grand champion will receive a hundred points. “Whoa! Even if I don’t do well on the next lessons, which I’m pretty sure I won’t, I’d be sure to pass. I really wish we could win this,” you said to no one in particular. “Just leave it to me. Just make sure to do your part and I’m pretty sure we can win today,” Chanyeol told you. “Wait, did Kai come?” You asked as you looked around. “I don’t think so,” Chanyeol replied as he also looked around for Kai. “Good for us though. Kai is pretty good with physical stuff. One less tough opponent,” he grinned. “I wonder if he caught a cold,” you mumbled to yourself. “Okay! We’ll be starting the game in a few minutes. Do some warm-ups,” your teacher shouted. Chanyeol immediately started with warm-up exercises. You on the other hand just did some simple stretching. You met eye-to-eye with Lee Heejun and he was smirking your way, looking like he was ready to devour you. “God. Don’t tell me he hasn’t gotten over what happened a week ago. Is it that hard to move on?” You mumbled. “Alright! Evens first! All evens come here,” your teacher instructed. You gave a sigh of relief when you saw Lee Heejun was one with the even numbers. Thank God I don’t have to face him in a match! The games finally started. Lee Heejun’s team won in the evens bracket. Not that he was really good or anything, but both he and his partner know how to play well. Your bracket’s turn came afterwards. Your team easily won the first game, or rather Chanyeol won the game for your team. You managed to do well, in your opinion, though you missed a lot of times. But Chanyeol was a beast and made all the points for your team. The next game was a match against Sehun. Sehun was also great but his partner was one of those ‘I’m-too-pretty-to-play-this-game-I-don’t-want-to-be-all-sweaty’ kind of girls so your team won against his. There were a few more games after and surprisingly, you and Chanyeol did win in your bracket. Your class ended earlier than the other classes so you were able to quickly take your shower. None of your stuff was missing this time since you made sure to lock your locker. There were still a few hate notes though.
