Is This Right? [Part 1]

Tongue Tied

For some reason Sunny felt a little nervous about the tutoring session. Since Taeyeon didn’t have any activities on the Tuesday she asked her to do her homework while she tutored Sooyoung. The day went by pretty quickly and the couple was waiting for the tall girl outside of the local library.

“Why are you so nervous?” Taeyeon asked, feeling the sweat accumulate on her girlfriend’s hand.

Sunny was looking around for Sooyoung and almost didn’t hear her girlfriend’s question.

“Nervous?” she repeated, her eyes meeting Taeyeon’s, “I’m not nervous, what makes you think that?”

Taeyeon just laughed, “Didn’t you two get along at practice yesterday?”

Sunny sighed, “Yeah, but I don’t know Taengoo what if I screw up again?”

Taeyeon rolled her eyes and shook her head, “Sunny-ah, how in the world are you going to screw up here? Uh yes, this is how you solve this question oh and by the way I’m actually Sunny hey girl, hey.”

Sunny burst into laughter, throwing her head back and holding her stomach. As she tried to compose herself, she managed to say, “You did not just say ‘hey girl, hey’!”

Taeyeon blushed a little at her comment as made a straight line, “Shut up!”

At that moment Sooyoung turned the corner and saw Taeyeon laughing with her boyfriend. She smiled at the two from afar who probably won’t notice her for a while. She enjoyed seeing Taeyeon so happy and comfortable with a guy. It seemed as if the two had been best friends for a long time. She’d always wanted a relationship like that.

Sooyoung hated to admit it and she tried not to be as obvious as her Sica unnie, but she was in fact very jealous of Taeyeon and Sungmin. Throughout her 17 years of living she hadn’t had a single boyfriend. She’d dated once or twice but they were barely good enough to be memorable. Her and her friends have always been busy with each other or involved with school work so it was rare for them to date.

Yuri had dated a guy for a week back in freshman year. Hyoyeon had a boyfriend for a month in sophomore year. Seohyun always had shy admirers and Yoona constantly had guys asking her out. Tiffany had a boyfriend at one point she thought and who could forget Taeyeon and Jessica’s relationship.

Sooyoung had nothing against same relationships but it would be a lie to say that she wasn’t surprised when the group had found out about their secret relationship. No one in the group really confirmed or spoke out their uality so she assumed them all to be straight. It took her a while to adjust to the idea but when she saw how comfortable the two were she adored them together.

In all honesty she was rooting for them to get back together at some point despite the reasons to why they broke up in the first place. Her Taeyeon unnie was an interesting girl after all, and despite her not disclosing too much about her feelings for others, she could tell she had some sort of lingering feelings for Jessica and a part of her and some of the other girls in the group thought that maybe she had feelings for Tiffany as well?

Either that or Taeyeon really was the ert they about being.

No but, her and Yoona often had these discussions about their tight group of friends. They had grown up in school together after all and the two of them couldn’t help but be observant. Yoona had a theory about Yuri liking Jessica, but Sooyoung didn’t see it at all. Sure the two were very close, but so was Tiffany and Jessica. But she couldn’t deny that Yuri was into girls too. She could’ve sworn that she and Hyoyeon were in some sort of secret relationship at one point but the two never confessed anything.

Despite the seriousness of the situation, her and Yoona couldn’t help but gossip or discuss their friends.

Snapping her head from their trailing thoughts, she made eye contact with Sungmin as she got closer to the library. She was thankful for the cold air that already made her cheeks red.

Usually she was attracted to manlier guys. Guys with broad shoulders and who were tall and walked confidently. But there was something about Sungmin. She adored how well he pulled off the blonde hair and how despite his short height, he still carried himself well. She liked his occasional cuteness that he showed only to Taeyeon and couldn’t help but be jealous of it. She liked his style of clothing and really appreciated his . And he was a little slimmer than most guys but his arms were good enough.

And wow could the boy dance.

“You ready?” Sungmin said, snapping Sooyoung once again from her thoughts.

“Yeah,” Sooyoung answered before greeting Taeyeon as well.

The three found a group room where they could study in peace. Taeyeon was working on something on her laptop with her textbooks open while Sooyoung and Sungmin were working on math problems.

Sooyoung wasn’t stupid but she wasn’t incredibly smart either. She worked hard for her excellent grades but unfortunately they took a lot of effort. She dropped from a lot of activities before to focus on her academics.

The tutoring session was going by smoothly and Sooyoung was amazed at how well Sungmin explained everything. Her attraction to him also helped her pay attention. She also wanted him to be proud of her so she did her best to focus on improve and finish her homework quickly.

Taeyeon was observing the two from her spot. She smiled as the two comfortably talked and went over Sooyoung’s work. Sunny would occasionally glance at her when Sooyoung would work on a question by herself and Taeyeon would offer her a supporting nod.

She admired how smart Sunny was. Of course she hated how she didn’t have to put much effort into studying or homework but some people are just born with faster working brains. She tapped impatiently at her computer thinking about her own work.

She felt like she should’ve been a little jealous with how close Sunny and Sooyoung were while they worked. In all honesty she thought the scene was really cute, kind of like something from one of her mangas or animes. If she asked Sunny there was probably a scene like this somewhere. It was clear how Sooyoung had a crush on Sungmin and it made her laugh considering who Sungmin was. Sunny seemed a little oblivious to the crush and just seemed very happy to be helping out Sooyoung.

Usually Taeyeon was the jealous type, or at least the secretive jealous type. When she was with Jessica she became more aware of the stares the girl got from admirers and it made her more thankful for being with her. It made her a little worried about being good enough for her too, but the girl never failed to reassure her.

Instead she was curious about this development and wondered how Sooyoung will react when she finds out who it really is.

The next two hours passed rather quickly and Taeyeon found herself helping Sooyoung as well when she was done her work. It’s not that Sooyoung needed the extra help but she was clearly better at explaining some things than Sunny.

When they finished Sooyoung bowed and thanked her two friends.

“Aish, you’ll be spending more time together aren’t you two?” Taeyeon commented while lightly squeezing Sunny’s arm. “I wish I could go watch you two get your butts kicked by Yuri’s training but unfortunately I have to go home and Hyoyeon mentioned that she wanted everyone outside of your group to be surprised by the routine.”

“Are you jealous?” Sunny teased, squeezing Taeyeon back. “Hyoyeon-sshi was right though, you’re going to enjoy the routine much more if you have no idea what the routine looks like.”

Taeyeon ignored Sunny’s question and turned to Sooyoung who was shivering in her spot, “Yah, Sungmin oppa, this young girl is shivering and you’re not going to help her out?”

Sunny didn’t even notice and immediately felt sorry despite Taeyeon just kidding around. She took off her infinity scarf and wrapped it around Sooyoung tenderly, “Sorry Sooyoung-ah!”

Sooyoung once again praised the cold weather.

---

As Sooyoung and Sungmin made their way towards Yuri’s house, Taeyeon walked home by herself with her earphones blasting a rather large variety of songs. Taeyeon literally enjoyed every genre and knew almost every song to exist. It scared and impressed most people.

With some time left to spare before dinner she decided to go visit Tiffany who she knew was bored from the various texts they shared. She was always welcomed into the Hwang house.

After 4 songs worth of walking she found herself at the pretty pink doorway. It was amazing how the girl convinced her father to paint so many parts of the house pink. It must have been the charm of her eye smile.

Taeyeon knocked and waited for her friend to open the door. She personally didn’t find it too cold and very much enjoyed the light snow that was falling. She was also wearing about three layers of clothes. A shirt, a sweater, and one of Sunny’s huge hoodies. They really helped with the weather.

Tiffany finally opened the door and pulled in Taeyeon for a big hug.

“You’re so cold!” she said, brushing the snow off Taeyeon’s shoulders and head.

“And you’re going to be cold if you don’t close the door soon,” Taeyeon replied, shaking her head at her friend.

The two went indoors and Tiffany had already prepared some tea and cupcakes for Taeyeon’s arrival. Her father was still at work at the moment so the girls had the house to themselves.

After they chatted about their day at school over the tea and snacks, Tiffany led Taeyeon to her room.

“Not much has changed huh,” Taeyeon declared as she admired her friend’s pastel pink room. It was simple and cutely decorated. On Tiffany’s desk was her homework neatly piled up and several of Tiffany’s infamous journals.

The girl enjoyed collecting them and filled between ten to twenty of them a year with random musings, song lyrics and story ideas. They were often what she received on holidays where gift giving was required.

Tiffany lightly slapped Taeyeon’s arm, “It’s only been two weeks since you last came over, you dork!”

The two sat on Tiffany’s bed and continued their conversation. Taeyeon enjoyed how much Tiffany could talk since she was never that much of a talker to begin with. It always seemed like something was on her mind and she always wanted to talk about it. No wonder she had such a creative mind.

“How is your duet with Sica going?” Taeyeon asked, “Practices are soon.”

“They’re going well!” Tiffany replied cheerfully, “Although I wish we could only show our duet to Sooyoung like Hyoyeon’s group is doing.” She pouted at the unfairness and Taeyeon just laughed.

“Sooyoung is part of their group so she’s making sure they’re perfect for the show and she has access to everything. If we let you keep the performance a surprise from me then everyone else is going to start doing that! Seohyun has already asked me a thousand times and if I was going to let one more person do it it’d be her no doubt,” Taeyeon explained firmly, Tiffany’s pout not going away.

“Then you can’t hide yours and Sooyoung’s duet rehearsals!” Tiffany retorted, pointing her finger at Taeyeon’s shoulder.

“We’re going to practice last so you’ll be long gone by then,” Taeyeon replied smiling, “Besides, you’ll see my solo and my choir’s number so you don’t really need to see one more.”

Tiffany fell to her back and stared at her ceiling, “I like listening to you sing, TaeTae.” She said simply, closing her eyes and smiling, “Could you sing for me right now?”

Taeyeon thought for a moment, “Only if you show me your latest story. Sica told me you were working on a new one.”

Tiffany frowned, “Why did Jessie go on and tell you that?” She sighed, “Fine, fine, sounds like a fair trade.”

Taeyeon pumped her fist into the air, very excited about their exchange. She never found her singing to be that extraordinary so she always felt like she was getting the better end of the deal when Tiffany asked for her to sing. The things that Tiffany wrote about amazed her. Her mind definitely was somewhere else. It bothered Taeyeon and the rest of the girls that she never finished anything she started though.

“Any requests?” Taeyeon then asked and she straightened her back and started positioning herself.

“Something in English,” Tiffany asked, excited about her talented friend’s mini show for her.

“Fine,” Taeyeon replied before scrunching her face in thought.

“Sunday morning rain is falling,” Taeyeon started with her best English pronounciation.

Tiffany squealed in her spot, “Ah I love that song!!”

Taeyeon smiled at her fangirling friend and was incredibly satisfied with her decision.

“Steal some covers, share some skin
Clouds are shrouding us in moments unforgettable
You twist to fit the mold that I am in
But things just get so crazy, living life gets hard to do
And I would gladly hit the road, get up and go if I knew
That someday it would lead me back to you
That someday it would lead me back to you…”

Taeyeon closed her eyes as she continued to sing the Maroon 5 hit. Ever since she decided to sing She Will Be Loved with Sooyoung she had been listening to a lot of their songs.

Tiffany jumped in with harmonies every once in a while and two girls sounded wonderful together. Tiffany’s father who was home by that time could hear the two girls singing and it eased his sore back from the long day at work.

When Taeyeon was finished, she opened her eyes to find Tiffany staring back at her. She ignored the weird feeling in her stomach and raised her eyebrow at her friend.

“I really like it when you sing for me, TaeTae,” Tiffany admitted, her eye smile piercing Taeyeon. The shorter girl blushed finally and just smiled at her friend.

---

Sunny and Sooyoung arrived at Yuri’s house earlier than they planned but were let in by her parents. The two girls bowed at them before Sooyoung led the way to Yuri’s room. Sunny of course already knew her way there but she kept her act up. She loved how the house didn’t really feel all that different despite the amount of years it had been. The only thing that was really different were the added pictures of Yuri.

“Let’s surprise her,” Sooyoung whispered as they approached their friend’s room. Sunny nodded with a smirk.

“Let’s just jump into the room and scream BOO!” Sunny suggested, rubbing her hands together maniacally.

“Perfect,” Sooyoung responded, the two exchanging a silent high five.

The two tip toed at amazing speed and low volume and when they both gripped the door handle to Yuri’s room, they counted down in unison.

“1, 2, 3…” and at once the two opened the door in one swift movement. But before the two could do what they planned, Sooyoung screamed in shock first.

Sunny just stared as she watched Jessica scream and hide herself behind a paper pad and Yuri jump onto her bed to cover her body.
