Seungri was right, he was whipped. Why else would he be backstage at Inkigayo, dressed in a suit, waiting for her to go on. But she asked because she was nervous and he went because she needed his support, he promised himself to keep it platonic, but he still brought her a beautiful bouquet of white lilies.

He stood just beyond the wings and watched. She waved to him before she went to wait behind the curtain He smiled. She looked beautiful today. Just then a man bumped into him, running to Lee Hi. Her smile faltered and he watched as the man ruffled her hair, just before she was going to walk out. She frowned and she and some make-up artists nearby began fixing her hair as the man came back and bumped into TOP AGAIN, jostling the flowers.

“Sorr-oh! Well look who it is.” TOP recognized him immediately from the rerun he watched. He was the man that joined Lee Hi for her rap sequence. He was the one that unsettled her. TOP nodded his head curtly. “I’m Lee Shin, have you heard of me? I’m the male lead for this song. She’s not all that great honestly, but they try to make her cute anyway.” TOP’s frowned deepened. “So whatcha doing here?”

“I came to support her.” The song started and he attempted to ignore the man as he listened to her.

Lee Shin was oblivious to the other’s vibe and glanced at the flowers. He pointed to them. “Hate to tell you, but this song is called Rose and those sure as hell aren’t roses. Whatever, it’s stupid right? Who the hell compares love to a rose?”

TOP took a deep breath to calm himself. “She likes lilies better.”

His eyebrows shot up. “Really? How would you know, you her fan? Or maybe…you like her?” TOP remained passive. “Well sorry, but I gotta tell you, she’s so not worth it. She was all over me during M Countdown, she’s such a whiny little bit-” He never finished that thought because TOP punched him in the face. HARD. He never thought playing Vick years ago would help him, but he used a quick kick combination and knocked him out. He checked the flowers. Still intact.

“What the hell…?” TOP spun around to see someone staring at the scene before him.

“Jiyong! What are you doing here,” he whispered furiously.

The other band member snapped out of his trance and began pulling on the guy’s shoulders. “No time for that, help me out here!” They moved the guy to the back of the curtain. G-Dragon stood up. “Hyung what the HELL do you think you’re doing? He’s the male lead!”

TOP’s eyes glowed dangerously. “He disrespected her. He’s deliberately demoralizing her and was unprofessional.”

“Okay I get it Hyung and we can discuss that later, but what about the guy?! He’s supposed to go on in thirty seconds,” he hissed.

TOP glanced out to where Lee Hi sang. It was almost time. I’m sorry Aghasshi. He felt a tug on his hands and saw G-Dragon take the flowers from him. He brushed off his suit jacket. “Jiyong, what are you doing?”

“Hyung. I’m sorry.” And with that, G-Dragon spun him around and pushed him into the wings.

He barely had time to think, he looked back at G-Dragon who gave him a thumbs up. That’s when his heart began thudding. He remembered watching the sequence several times as Bear-sshi, so he knew the steps…this was his punishment for what he did to that . His heart was beating, the assistants counted him down, and at zero he stepped onto the stage.

Immediately the volume increased tenfold, but Lee Hi was now wise enough to ignore the screams and focus on her singing, she didn’t look at him while she concentrated on not tripping as she stepped down from the pedestal. TOP seamlessly (or so he hoped) mimicked the choreography and went stage left before turning to her and lifting his hand.

“…You and I must come to an end…” Pure shock flitted across her face as she looked up to see her new partner.

He walked toward her for the next part of the choreography, praying his hand wouldn’t tremble as he fisted the air behind her back. Lee Hi’s face was impassive as she glanced at him over her shoulder.

Their separation now made him nervous, knowing he had to interact with the other dancers. He knew his movements weren’t as artful as Lee ’s (or was it Shim’s?) movements but at least he didn’t bump into anyone. He moved toward her again and he saw her shoulders relax a fraction. As seamless as his poker face was, his mind had already calmed seeing this gesture and he put his all into the movements, trying to mimic her grace. Dancing with her wasn’t new, but this style was far from his norm. He tried to avoid it when possible but dancing with her on the stage felt oddly normal now and almost easy.

She continued the song as they circled each other, she let out the tiniest smile when her back faced the audience. His heart beat quickly and his brain screamed WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING as he reached for her hand and then quickly fell when she snatched it away. The choreography continued, but he was careful never to deviate even the slightest and to put as much feeling into it as a poor substitute dancer could. He was relieved when it was time for him to lie on the ground. He spread his arms and the song ended.

The noise was deafening, even with earplugs it was still louder than normal. He stayed still until the stage faded black and sat up. Lee Hi crouched down next to him.

“Oppa! What are you doing here? Where is the other dancer?”

“He’s asleep behind the curtain,” he said. Well technically that’s true… He stood up and Lee Hi followed suit. “You were right, his intentions weren’t good. I’ll speak to YG about it when I get back.”

“You…really?”

“Yes. We’d better get off stage it looks like they’re cleaning up.” Lee Hi quickly began walking toward the exit when she slipped on a pile of the fake rose petals. Luckily TOP had been following her and caught her by the elbow and waist before she could fall. He knew she was scarlet because his cheeks were undoubtedly that color too. Never had he ever been so happy to be in the dark.

He removed his hand from on her waist. “Sorry,” he muttered, his cheeks burning. The other hand he kept on her elbow and carefully escorted her from the stage.

They had just passed the curtain when TOP had his own bouquet in his face by G-Dragon who gave him another thumbs-up. “Um…good job today, you sounded nice,” TOP said awkwardly as he passed the flowers to her.

“Umm…thank you Oppa.” They were silent as he led her back to her small dressing room.

Lee Hi collapsed in her chair. TOP debated whether or not to close the door, but when he saw Lee Shin sit up and rub his head he closed the door and leaned against it.

Lee Hi was admiring her lilies, smelling them with a smile. Her smile dropped. “Oppa, what did you do to your hand?!” TOP glanced at it, realizing it had turned a deep red and gaining a purplish hue from his strong punch.

He shrugged. “I dunno.” Lee Hi put her flowers down and walked over to him, lifting his hand to examine it. TOP would never admit that his heart leapt as she took his hand. “Oppa…for today…I wanted to say thank you for coming…and for being my partner.”

TOP tried to ease the awkwardness with a short chuckle. “It’s no problem Aghasshi, I’m sorry I wasn’t a better dance partner today.”

“No…Jiyong-oppa told me about what you did…as Bear-sshi.”

He was pretty sure his heart stopped for a moment. I’ll kill him. Lee Hi smiled again. “Thank you for helping me Oppa, you’ve been so kind and helpful as a sunbae and friend.”

Friend. That’s not what I want. TOP finally decided to throw caution to the wind. “…Aghasshi…Lee Hayi?” She looked at him surprised…he never called her by her stage name, let alone her real name. “…I realize I’m…quite a bit older than you…and you’re quite young now…it wouldn’t be appropriate to confess to you.” Her lips parted in shock. He flipped their hands so he now held hers. “But I’ll wait for you…if you’ll let me be your partner again.”

A bright smile lit up her face and her eyes sparkled. She blushed as she said, “I like you too Oppa.”

TOP smiled, truly smiled showing his big dimples and perfect teeth. He pulled her close and hugged her, wrapping his arms around her shoulders since he was so tall. Lee Hi giggled and he lifted her off the ground briefly before setting her down. “So…what is this exactly?”

“This is a promise. When you turn 19, I’ll ask to officially date you. Until then I’ll have a secret crush on you,” he said cheekily.

“You’d wait for me?”

“If that’s what you want.” Lee Hi nodded eagerly. He released her from his hug.

“Until then…I won’t initiate skinship, it wouldn’t be appropriate.” She nodded, agreeing. However, he gently took her hand and kissed it.

She blushed again…pink really was her color. “I thought you said no skinship?”

TOP was serious. “It’s not. This is my promise to wait for you. When you’re old enough, I promise I’ll be a proper boyfriend and treat you well. I promise I’ll be there if you want to laugh or cry and I promise to buy all your CD’s.” Lee Hi laughed.

“Thank you Oppa.”

“Ya, we aren’t even again.”

“What do you mean?”

“I called your name, isn’t it fair that you call mine…Hayi?”

She laughed again. “Of course…Seunghyun.”

“Thank you.”
