My POV

OMG, I’m just going to think that JR is teasing me by holding my hand. Well then, if he wants to play games, I will too. I continued holding hands with him and suggested to go to the arcade. I loved that place! It was like my second home where Mom and I had our quiet time and girl talk. I knew the games there really well!

I was really excited and started walking real fast. We reached the arcade in less than 15 minutes and I dragged him to the basketball game. “Let’s see who can beat who! Loser pays for the rest of the games and treats.” I stated. “Game on!” JR was hyped for it. We slotted in the coins and the timer started. The balls were endlessly flying into the hoop, both of us were scoring a lot of goals, I didn’t want to lose. I couldn’t lose cause I had no money, oops. Shouldn’t have made that bet.

At the end of the gruelling 90 seconds, the scores tallied and I lost to him by 1 shot! Oh man… I need to pay now.

“Yes!!! I beat you!” JR triumphed in his win, “you’ll be paying the games and treats now.” I looked at the ground… not knowing what to say. I fiddled with my glasses. JR seemed to notice the atmosphere getting duller. “Sparrow, you okay? It’s just a game. No worries,” JR comforted me. I shook my head and said, “I didn’t bring out enough money,”  JR seemed to relax, and laughed. “Why are you laughing?!” I asked, thinking he was laughing at me because I didn’t have enough money. “Nothing…. It’s just you were.. so cute!” JR muttered between laughs. My temperature started going up… why did he have to say I was cute? Teasing me again.

“Hey! I’m not ‘cute’, I’m just just… I can’t find the word..” I tapped my finger on my lips, thinking. JR looked up and took my hand and said, “you’re cute in my eyes.” I looked at him, “are you playing with me?” He gave that clueless look. “You so are! Whatever, let’s play another game.” JR actually offered to pay for all the games, that was so nice of him! When he teased me just now, my heart was going crazy, beating so fast. When he took my hand, it got worse. I’m telling you I could have gotten a heart attack! Why was he sooo charming? Why must he charm me? Oh my… Am I admitting I like him? I don’t think I do. No I don’t, I think I don’t. Never mind all these. Concentrate on the games!

We played for 2 hours straight and we weren’t stopping any sooner. It was past 4 now. “Sparrow! Where are we going next?” JR questioned in the midst of racing. “I don’t know, its about 4 plus, maybe we can cycle round the entire neighbourhood! I know there’s a bike rental shop here. Game for it?” I replied. “OK! Then we can have dinner together?” “Yeap! Anything. I’m free the entire day.”

After the arcade, we got our bikes and pedalled slowly, taking in the late afternoon breeze. We cycled to the park and past the library, to the shopping street and malls, to the square and practically the entire neighbourhood.
