More Than This

PART EIGHT

When Yuri and the two boys arrived at the hospital they saw Mrs. Kwon sitting In the waiting room with an uneasy face. Both Jiyong and Taeyang were confused, but didn’t question anything. When Yuri told Jiyong that Dara’s in the hospital Jiyong decided to go with Yuri alone but Taeyang insisted that he’ll go as well.

Yuri didn’t want to tell them what happened. Taeyang was worried that Dara hurt herself by an accident, but Jiyong knew that there was something more to it.

But Yuri told them that it’ll be better if Dara tell them herself.

“How is she?” asked Yuri kneeling in front of Mrs. Kwon while holding her hand in hers. Heejun just blankly shook her head and Yuri couldn’t help but to sigh out of helplessness.

“Yuri”

They heard, and saw Mr. Kwon with his brother walking in their direction. When Yang saw Jiyong his body tensed, but he quickly regain himself. Kiyoung noticed but just kept quiet.

Jiyong wanted so badly to ask about Dara, but he was sure that Mr. Kwon won’t tell him anything. He looked over at the door of the room that Dara was supposable in. He felt a sudden urge of going into that room, and check up on her.

“Ji?”

He heard and turned to see his brother looking over at him. Jiyong was so lost in his own thoughts that he didn’t noticed that he’s been staring at that door for quite some time.

“Are you okay?’ Taeyang asked. Jiyong just nodded his head in response.

“Honey, why don’t you go home, and I’ll call you when I’ll know something more,” Mr. Kwon suggested.

Heejun just looked at him blankly, she was still mad at him.

Kiyoung could feel the tension between the two, and not being a fan of these kind of situation he decided to leave, “I’ll go check up on her.”

Then he just walked passed Jiyong and Taeyang and gave the boys a faint smile. Jiyong looked at Mrs. Kwon, she was looking at him in a way as if asking if it was okay if she leaves. Jiyong tried his best to smile and nodded his head a yes.

Heejun sighed deeply and stood up to leave, but before that she turned to Yuri, “Please call me if something changes.”

Yuri nodded her head gently. Mrs. Kwon smiled slightly and left the hospital.

**

Yuri was sitting on a bench outside of the hospital, while Jiyong was leaning against a fence and Taeyang sitting down on the grass. All three of them were quiet lost in their own thoughts. They decided to leave the waiting room to get some fresh air, Mr. Kwon promised to call them if something changes with Dara.

Jiyong suddenly broke the silence, “Does it happen often?”

Yuri sighed, she knew that Jiyong was slowly figuring out this whole situation out, so lying to him would be pointless. She slightly nodded her head but kept her gaze on the ground.

Taeyang was clearly confused, but just kept sitting there silently.

Yuri heard a light chuckle, she looked up to see Jiyong smiling at her.

“What an idiot, she thought I didn’t notice right?” Jiyong asked.

Yuri smiled and nodded her  head.  It was true, Dara was sure that Jiyong was clueless about her medical situation, but every time Yuri was over she could see how Jiyong acted, but didn’t say anything.

“Yuri?”

Both, Jiyong and Yuri looked over at Taeyang who was silent ever since they left the waiting room.

“I was just wondering how do you know Kiko and Sohee?”

“Yeah, that’s a good question,” said Jiyong and sat next to Yuri on the bench.

Yuri looked at Taeyang and then at Jiyong debating on if she should tell them or not.

“I know them from the streets,” Yuri said, and saw Jiyong raising an eyebrow in confusion “When I was fourteen I started I spend time on the streets, and that’s how I met Kiko and Sohee.”

“A girl like you on the streets?” Taeyang asked stretching his arms.

Yuri chuckled, “Yeah, is that so surprising?”

“I would never expect a girl like you to even go close to the streets, that’s all,” Taeyang replied.

“Well it all started when the people I knew started going to raves. I distanced myself from that scene because I thought it was weird. Slowly, though, my perception changed. The more people I knew who went to raves, the more I believed it couldn’t be that bad. That October, I decided to go to a party where I knew people would be doing drugs. Everyone seemed to know each other. I have to admit, I was jealous. I felt like an outsider. ”

”Dara didn’t go did she?” asked Jiyong looking at Yuri.

“No, Dara didn’t feel the need, besides if her parents found out they would kill her,” Yuri chuckled.

“But raves aren’t that bad, what’s the worst that could happen?”asked Taeyang with a shrug.

“If Mr. Kwon was your father, you would understand.” Jiyong told his brother.

“That’s the same way I was thinking back then, but it just proved how wrong I was,” Yuri said taking her gaze away from the boys.

“What happened?” asked Jiyong curiously.

“Halfway through the night I met a really awesome guy his name was Teddy. After talking for a while he offered me Ecstasy. I decided to try it. As I swallowed the pill I thought, there’s no way this could be bad. A half an hour went by and I began to question its power. But then it hit me like a tidal wave. It was incredible: My senses magnified, the lights became more vivid, the music sounded more beautiful, and my new acquaintances felt like best friends. I didn't even know half of their names and yet I felt I loved them. I loved everything that night. So, it was no wonder why I wanted to feel that way again soon. Before long I started popping Ecstasy every other Saturday night. It was fun going to parties and meeting new people. Soon I was using every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. I wasn't alone either – even the cheerleaders and football players were using the “love drug.” And they were buying the drugs from the basketball players and band members who were selling pills right out of their lockers.”

The boys stayed silent and listen to Yuri. Both of them knew Teddy, in fact he used to be their friend, but then two years he got caught up in a car accident and didn’t make it alive. They never knew that he was taking drugs though.

“Dara found out about it, and was furious. She refused to listen to my excuses and told me to stop or else she will tell my parents. I didn’t care and instead I just cut off our friendship,” Yuri’s eyes started to water up.

Taeyang stood up, and handed Yuri a tissue, “You don’t have to.”

Yuri wiped her eyes and smiled, “It’s alright, there’s a happy ending to that story.”

“But I still don’t understand how you met KIko and Sohee,” Jiyong said and looked over at Yuri.

“I met them in one of these parties I went to. They knew Teddy so he introduced me to them, we got along with each other. And since they were also taking Ecstasy we had ‘fun’ together, and when I cut off my friendship with Dara they were my friends. ”

“Wait, I never knew that these two took any kind of drugs,” said Taeyang as he said on the other side of Yuri.

Yuri shrugged, “Ï don’t know if they still do, but they used to,” Yuri turned to Jiyong “I’m not saying anything bad about them.”

Jiyong nodded his head.

Yuri knew that Jiyong could get protective of his Noonas, and bused into an argument with her, and that was the last thing that Yuri needed at a time like this.

“Anyway,  All this partying took its toll on me. My body ached from the hours of dancing. My eyes were bloodshot with big, dark circles around them. I was always sick and depressed. I began to hate everything -- I hated school, I hated my job and I fought constantly with my family. I thought that I had the worst life. The only time I felt happy anymore was when I was on Ecstasy. Only the drug was never as good as the time before. Now it seemed that even Ecstasy couldn't numb the pain. So, I began to move on to other drugs -- , ketamine and mushrooms. Despite this, I didn’t think I had a problem because I was still working and going to school. But within three months my recklessness caught up with me. I was at a small house party and started drinking from a container of Red Bull -- which turned out to be full of GHB. Although I don’t remember what happened, the events of the evening were explained to me:

I became unconscious. My body forced itself to throw up several times. My “friends” weren’t too alarmed. They just thought I passed out from taking too much GHB and that I would sleep it off. Rather than help me, they just stuck me in the bathroom. I was unconscious for hours and nobody checked on me.”

Taeyang was shocked, “And where was Teddy?”

“He got high on something, and got a call from one of his es so he decided to go over to her to have his ‘fun’ but his brain wasn’t fecundating properly because of the drug, and he got coughed up in a car accident, ” Yuri chuckled at the memory of her ex-boyfriend.

She couldn’t believe that she didn’t notice that she was just one of Teddy’s toys that he liked to play with. But as a dialer it was no wander that he had so many clients that he could take advantage of if they didn’t have the money and were despaired.

“Even after that event I didn’t stop, but obviously my parents found out because I was taken to the hospital. They said that I was addicted and that I needed help, I just laughed in their faces and run away. I spend about two weeks living on the streets.”

“So what made you stop?” asked Jiyong.

“I got very drunk one night and a guy in a pub said the wrong thing to me, so I glassed him in the face. I ended up spending 4 months in prison for ABH. Whilst I was inside, I learnt a few valuable life lessons and decided that a life of drugs wasn’t the life for me. I was also able to get away from all the ‘friends’ I took drugs with, which really helped,” Yuri looked up at the boys, she giggled at their shocked expressions.

“Also during these four months Dara visited me every day, she never mention anything about what happened and just said that she was glad to have me back. ”

“That sounds exactly like something that kid would do,” Jiyong said nodding his head.

Yuri giggled slightly.

“Well, who would of thought that Yuri used to be a bad girl,” JIyong said with a teasing tone.

“Well, who would have thought that you’ll end up as a Kwon’s family gardener,” Yuri giggled, and Taeyang chuckled, while Jiyong just gave her a glare.

“In the future, on your CV you can mention that you used to be a gardener for the Kwon’s, and I’m sure you’ll get the job, ” Yuri teased.

Jiyong pounded and looked away.

“You and Dara are so alike it’s scary,” Jiyong said while still not looking at her.

“We knew each other ever since I can remember, so it’s no wonder,” Yuri stocked her tough at him.

“You’re very lucky to have a friend like her,” Taeyang said.

“I know,” Yuri nodded her head.

“But she’s also your friend now,” Yuri said, and Jiyong turned to look at her “You didn’t really think that after that punishment of yours you could get rid of her?” Yuri raised her eyebrow.

“Dang it. That was my dream,””Jiyong said, and Yuri just shook her head.

She didn’t notice the smile on his lips.

**

And here they were again, back in the waiting room. Jiyong sat in the one of the chair with his eyes closed. Yuri and Taeyang decided to go down to the café and buy something to eat.

Jiyong was so focused on his own thought that he didn’t notice that Mr. Kwon sat beside him.

Mr. Kwon cleared his through, and it made Jiyong eyes shot open. He looked up at the man with hope in his eyes, but Mr. Kwon just shook his head.

Jiyong sighed and leaned onto the chair that he was sitting on. It was three in the morning already and there was no news about Dara what so ever. They’ve been here for over eight hours, Mr. Kwon insisted for them to go home, but being the stubborn person that Jiyong is he refused to budge.

“Tell me, who is my daughter to you?” Jiyong heard the man ask.

He looked at him confused, what kind of question was that anyway?

“You came here and refused to leave, and it’s been over eight hours, there is no reason for you to do that unless… she’s someone special to you”

That was a good question, why was he here in the first place? Dara was just his bosses daughter nothing more. He didn’t even know if she thought of him as a friend. Then why was he here? He could easily stayed at home when Yuri told him, but he came here without a second thought. And he didn’t know why, Dara was making him do things that he didn’t understand. And it was starting to scare him.

“Ï-I was… just worried… about her,” Jiyong said truthfully.

“Hmm.. I see.”

Jiyong felt relieved that Mr. Kwon was happy with his answer and didn’t question him anymore.

The something coughed Yang’s eye, something that Jiyong had on his wrist.

He took a good look at it.

His eyes winded, it was that bracelet. That bracelet that was made especially for his son.

Especially for Kwon Jiyong.

He looked at Jiyong who was lost in his thought to notice that Mr. Kwon was staring at him. It was so ironic that the criminal that broke his house statue was his son.

Yang finally understood what Heejun meant, guilt washed over him he accused his wife of being crazy without even listening to her first.

“I’m so sorry,” he whispered.

Jiyong looked at him, “Did you say something sir?”

Yang quickly shook his head, “Ani”

Kiyoung entered the waiting room, Jiyong immediately stood up from his seat.

“She’s awake”

A wide smile appeared on Jiyong’s lips.

Yang couldn’t help but smile as well.

“Go on,” he said gently.

Jiyong looked at his boss confused, “Sir?”

“I bet you want some answers,” Mr. Kwon said softly.

**

Jiyong opened the door slowly as he entered the room he saw Dara sitting on the bed wrapped up in covers with different machines attached to her.

JIyong smiled softly at her, but she just turned her gaze away.

Regardless, he went over to a chair that was next to her bed and sat on it.

“Hey…”

Dara still wasn’t looking at him. Jiyong sighed, he knew that talking to her won’t be easy, but he never imagined that it would be that hard either.

“H-how are you feeling?”

No response.

“W-what happened?””

Still nothing.

“Are you okay?”

Nothing.

“Kya! Dara talk to me!” Jiyong shouted and sat on to the bed, taking her chin in his hand so he could look at her.

Big mistake, there were tears running down her cheeks like rain on a rainy day.

“What do you want me to tell you, huh?” she asked harshly.

“The truth!” Jiyong tried his best to keep his cool.

“The truth?” she asked.

“Yes,” he said nodding his head.

“I have TTP.”

“What?”

“I’m dying, Jiyong.”

Jiyong froze on the spot.

Chapter 26: WOW!!! Author-nim!!!
I was a silent reader to this day, heck I didn't even have an account but I had to make one coz there's something that is bothering me...

I mean reading from the comments a lot of people are blaming GD and telling him to 'fix this mess' but really that mess is not exacly his fault I mean Dara could be blamed as well.

He didn't speak to her but she didn't say anything eaither and from reading the story closley we don't really know if Ji was meeting Kiko because it's not mentioned and from knowing Kiko she could be making things up just to get rid of dara.

And if Dara still does love Ji why couldn't she listen to his side of the story?

Just wanted to point that out
