Kai’s POV

“Is she all right?!” Diksha came leaping beside me to get a look at Panchali.

She was still lying in my arms.

“Her heartbeat is fine and she’s breathing.” Suho said checking her vitals.

Chanyeol put one hand on her forehead

“She’s burning!” he gasped and Panchali mumbled something incoherent.

“Hey get her some water.” I said and one of the rescue team members handed me a bottle.

Suho took it from my hands and gently raised her head, making her drink.

Her eyes fluttered open in a few seconds.

“What the hell happened?” she mumbled.

“Shh… go back to sleep. It’ll be okay.” Suho said and smiled at her and she nodded and closed her eyes again.

Chanyeol got up and called Dr. Komal.

“Yeah we’ve found them both. We’ll be back by sunset! Yep!”

“What happened Dr. Diksha?” I asked still holding her.

She bent beside me and felt Panchali’s forehead.

“She caught something there I guess.”

“Well,” the leader said coming up, “Someone will have to carry her.”

“I’ll do it.” I said without thinking and before anyone could argue carefully lifted her on my back and wound her hands around my neck.

Okay this wasn’t as easy as it looks. Why do girls gain so much weight?

She mumbled something and cuddled into my neck and this time I blushed.

I smiled a little as everyone turned around to go back.

Kyungsan was standing in a corner biting his teeth as if scared he would catch something. He hadn’t even come forward to see if she was okay.

Bastard.

Looking at her head on my shoulder, her cheeks all red, slightly open, her eyes closed, her silent and peaceful face, I knew I wouldn’t mind this ride at all.

I thought of handing her to another man of the troop after an hour since I couldn’t bear her weight anymore.

Oh well.

ONE HOUR IS A BIG DEAL OKAY!

And it was a two hour long walk too.

I couldn’t see her with someone else actually.

Suho’s POV

“Diksha! Panchali!” Dr. Komal came running towards us.

Kyungsan rushed away to his own specially equipped tent as if scared of the diseases Panchali might give him.

Diksha hugged her and Komal hurried to Panchali next.

“Is she okay?” she asked as Kai nodded and set her down gently, only to pick her up once again, bridal style.

She had been sleeping the whole way.

“Take her to that hut!” Komal pointed to one close by.

Kai entered the hut and I was about to follow when she stopped us and asked what had happened.

“I’ll tell you in a minute.” Diksha told her reassuringly and then turned to us “You all go get some rest. I thank you a lot.”

We had already been regaled on the way.

Kai emerged from the hut in a minute.

“Still sleeping?” I asked and he nodded.

“Long day!” Chanyeol said and stretched.

Luhan smiled for the first time since we’d met him “I’m glad they’re safe.” He said.

All of us were dazed for a moment at his smile but he quickly entered his hut and Chanyeol followed him.

Kai and I stared at each other for a minute. For some reason it was a little awkward.

“Lets get some rest then?” he said and both of us disappeared into our hut.

I silently put an alarm for the next morning. I had a feeling she’d get up early.

Kai’s POV

I woke up to see the sun streaming through the window.

I rubbed my eyes and glanced around, letting my eyes adjust.

The bed beside me was empty. Suho certainly was an early riser.

Even I set an alarm. Why would I set an alarm? PANCHALI!

I shot out of bed instantly and changed in 32 seconds. Record!

Putting my shoes on in a hurry I dashed towards her hut and was about to enter when Dr. Komal blocked my path.

I frowned.

“Where are you going Dr. Kai?” she asked, crossing her arms.

“To see Panchali of course!” I said craning my neck to get a look inside the hut.

“There won’t be any need.” She said and I frowned again.

“What do you mean?”

“Well we haven’t established whats wrong with her so we didn’t know what to do. Suho is taking care of her right now.”

Suho? Why the hell is he taking care of her?

“Well I want to see her!” I said trying to push past her.

“No you can’t. We need as many people to wrap this thing up and get back home as fast as possible. I can’t afford any more doctors falling sick. Suho has already been exposed to the problem so you stay and help us.”

I grumbled and turned away.

Why was I so pissed?

Suho’s POV

I heard some mumbling noises from the bed and turned towards her.

“Are you awake?” I said softly her hair.

She opened her eyes a little and looked at me curiously.

Then she mumbled something, trying to get up “What are you doing here?”

I smiled a little and made her lie down again, “I’m going to take care of you okay? And we’re going to be stuck in this room day in and day out so you get used to me!”

She smiled weakly and lay back down.

“Suho…?”

“Hmm?”

“I’m very strange when I get a fever. You’ll have to work hard.”

I smiled and gave her a glass of water “I’m sure I can handle it.”

She propped herself up on her elbows and took small sips.

“Here eat something and then take your medicine.”I fetched her food.

“I don’t want to…” she said lying down again and covering her face.

“Yah I’ll feed you if you don’t eat!”

She removed her hands from her face and looked at me with huge eyes and then suddenly sprang up and hugged me “You’re like my grammy!”

I didn’t know how to react for a moment and blinked stupidly.

Her head was resting against my chest and she wasn’t saying anything.

I wrapped my arms around her, supporting her.

“You’re nice you know? Stay here. Don’t go…” she mumbled and I smiled.

“Thank you.”

I didn’t get any reply.

“Panchali…?”

I looked down to see she’d fallen asleep, leaning on my chest.

Shifting a little I tried to get her to move but she had gathered a bit of my shirt in her hand and was clutching it tightly, like a child.

So I let her be.

I sat there for like an hour.

Her arms had settled on my chest too and she was sleeping soundly.

I felt my eyes droop too and before I knew it I rested my chin on her head and dozed off. I didn’t know someone’s head could be this comfortable.

I was awoken by a loud noise and turned to the doorway to see the bright sun streaming in.

A figure was framed in the doorway, heaving.

My eyes took a moment to adjust and Panchali wriggled a little against my chest before falling asleep again.

I squinted at the figure.

“Kai…?” I asked and he stepped into the room.

He looked frazzled and his hair was thoroughly messed up.

But more than that, hurt was clear on his face.

I wondered if everything was okay.

“What are you doing?” he said accusingly.

I was confused for a moment and then answered “Well she had very high fever! Someone had to take care of her!”

“I’ll do it. You must be tired. Go… freshen up.”

“Does Dr. Komal know you’re here?”

“Just go would you?”

“I can’t. She’s leaning on me.”

Kai came forward and unwound her from me.

She mumbled something and refused to let my shirt go.

Kai grumbled something under his breath and slid his hand in the place where my shirt was.

She grabbed his hand then.

He carefully unwound her and made her lean against him instead.

She frowned in her sleep and I hated to disturb her like this.

I glanced awkwardly at Kai and his eyes were filled with a strange determination.

I felt I had to leave them at the moment. I stepped out of the hut but was met with a strange sight.

Dr. Komal was standing with her hands on her hips. She looked very pissed.

“DR. KAI!” she said and pushed past me.

Kai was clearly surprised and dropped Panchali who fell on the bed.

“How dare you disobey my instructions?! Just for this you will not be seeing Dr. Panchali or Dr. Suho for the rest of the trip. Come with me at once!”

He followed her out reluctantly, throwing Panchali a remorseful look.

What is up with that dude?
