Chapter 14 - Back To You

Broken Triangle

E POV

I had to make my point clear to her. I grabbed Sooyoung when she walked by us and kissed her hard on the mouth. I heard Jasmine gasp behind me and ignored it, snaking my arms around her neck and pulling her even closer.

“That’s disgusting, Eunhyuk,” Shindong commented as he walked by. I kept at it until I heard Sungmin approach her and let her go.

“Let’s go,” he said to her. Yes, indeed. I hope you’re happy now Sungmin. I hope you’re happy Jasmine, and that I meant sincerely. But when I turned back around, I realized that she hadn’t moved. Sooyoung waved goodbye to me and winked before walking off but Jasmine was still there.

Sungmin tried to hold her back but she came up to me and smacked me right across the face. Brilliant. I stared back at her and waited for the words that I knew was coming. “I don’t ever want to see your face again.”

And then she left. She tore her arm out of Sungmin’s grip and left. Sungmin shot me a disgusted look before following her. I held a hand to my cheek. It still hurt. The imprint of it was nothing compared to the rage and the pain in her eyes. And that had to sting the most. I wanted to be different, wanted to change. But I couldn’t see her painfully oscillate between me and Sungmin.

S POV

I couldn’t believe Eunhyuk would do this to her. A small part in me wanted to gloat, to say “I told you so.” But I knew that now it would be too late. It would only seem petty. I just had to be with her now.

I ran after her and found that she was crying on the curb. I sat down next to her and waited. I knew she hated it when people asked her whether she was okay or not. So I waited. When at last she stopped sniffling, she tentatively leaned her head on my shoulder.

“Why did he do it? He never gave a single indication that we were doing anything wrong. I assumed that he was going to stay with me for a while.” Her voice was shaky and she inhaled deeply to try to avoid shedding tears.

“He’s always been like that. I’ve been trying to tell you that for a while.”

She nodded. “I guess I should always listen to my Sungmin-oppa right?” She smiled up at me bravely.

“Don’t blame yourself. Ever. This is purely his fault. Honestly.” I stood up and picked her up with me. “Let’s go get some ice cream.”

I still remembered her favorite flavor and ordered it before she could say a word. “Taro with mint chips please.”

Jasmine stared at me. “You still remember?”

I chuckled. “Of course. It’s so unusual, you weirdo.”

She stuck out her tongue and I placed the ice cream in . She squealed as her nose got dabbed with the sweet treat and she swatted my arm. I paid and we walked out.

“Can we go back to the pond please?”

This was my turn to be surprised. She still remembered? She laughed a bit and I was glad to see that she was trying to get past him. “You’re surprised I still remember right? Of course. It was one of my favorite places ever. And where else can I find such adorable baby crabs?”

I took her by the hand and led her to the pond. The air smelled like the sea and the tiny crabs were crawling over the sand. I squatted down and held up two fingers, smiling cheesily. She took out her phone and snapped a picture, giggling all the way.

I held up two of the crabs and carefully held them in front of my eyes. She picked up a crab and let it scuttle down her arm, yelping a bit when its claws pinched her. It didn’t draw blood so she continued to sit on the sand and play with them.

I watched as she participated in one of my favorite pastimes. By the end of the day, she was smiling the entire time and it seemed as if the hurt has finally gone away.

I kept a close watch on her for the next few weeks and made sure that she didn’t seem at all upset. It worked because she was soon back to normal and she made sure to stay away from him. We fell back easily into our close friendship and that was good enough for me.
