A Second Chance
Junhyung’s POV
I’m finally done with the whole shoot. Now we’re just waiting for Jay and Jae Hee to come back. Hyuna and I sat on the sofa awkwardly. It’s been awhile since I last talked to her and now I’ve forgotten how. Come on Junhyung. This may be your one and only chance to talk to her alone. Talk!
“So er…” I started. She turned to me, expecting me to say something. I went silent.
“Yes?” she asked. . I should have thought of what to say first before starting. Damn damn!
“Do you still keep in contact with Jiyeon and Hyemi?” A totally random question.
“Oh yes actually! Never been closer,” she smiled. “We’re meeting them for dinner later. Do you mind joining us? I’m sure they’d be more than happy to see you again.”
“Really? Sure! Erm.. but do you mind if Yoseob join too? I usually have dinner with him,” I said, feeling bad for Yoseob now that I remember him.
She chuckled. “You guys are really close aren’t you? Of course.. The more the merrier. Jae Hee seems to like him too. Well, he pretty much likes everyone that he knows.” She smiled.
“You and Jay had raised him well.. Aish.. I still can’t believe you’re already a mother,” I scratch the back of my head sheepishly.
The door opened and Jay walked in with Jae Hee.
“It’s a wrap!” I said, standing up. I walked towards Jay.
“So the pictures will be ready in a about 2 weeks time. Do you want to self-collect or by mail?” I asked.
“Depends I guess. If I’m free, we’re collecting it ourselves. Surely I can’t let Hyuna take it home herself with Jae Hee right?” Jay smiled, turning to Hyuna. I just smiled and nodded.
A ringing sound of a phone was heard and Hyuna took out her handphone.
Hyuna’s POV
“Yeoboseyo?” I answered the call.
“Hyuna!! We’ll be meeting at the Amici right? Are you on your way already?” Jiyeon said.
“Yup! We just finished our photoshoot. And Junhyung will be joining us for dinner!” I said, turning to Junhyung, smiling happily. He just smiled.
“Oh really?? Jay doesn’t mind?”
“Nah.. He’s cool with it. Oh and Junhyung’s bestfriend will be joining us too! You girls don’t mind right? He’s really nice.”
“Friend? Sure…. As long as he’s single.” I heard both of them chuckle. I shook my head.
“Yeah yeah.. We’ll see you soon! Annyeong..” I hung up.
Junhyung’s POV
We went to the Amici by two cars. Jay, Hyuna and Jae Hee by Jay’s car and me and Yoseob went by Yoseob’s car.
We reached the restaurant to be greeted warmly by my two friends that I’ve longed to see. Both of them hugged me tightly after they’ve hugged Hyuna.
“I miss you so much! You look different!” Hyemi said.
“Much more handsome now.. “ Jiiyeon said and chuckled.
I just laughed. “This is Yoseob. Yoseob, this is Hyemi and Jiyeon my friends from highschool,” I said, introducing Yoseob to both of them. He gave a warm smile and offered a handshake.
All of us sit at the long table where there are 3 seats on each sides and Jae Hee sits at the short side on a toddler chair. Its like a reunion dinner. Hyemi, Yoseob, Jay on one side from left to right and Jiyeon, me and Hyuna on the other side across them respectively. No I did not purposely sit beside Hyuna. I swear. It just happened to be that way.
We ordered our food and drinks and started talking.
“So Junhyung, I heard that you’re a photographer now. I really didn’t see that coming,” Hyemi chuckled.
“Actually I just started taking interest in photography during college. I didn’t see it coming either. I thought I’d be a teacher or something,” I laughed and they followed along. I lied actually. I started taking interest in photography eversince the only memory I get to keep of Hyuna is her photo with me which I’ve lost along with my phone. I realised that photos are important for memories other than the ones we remember by heart. We can reflect back on how happy or sad we were at that period of time, on that photo.
“What about you Hyemi? What are you working as now?” I asked.
“Oh you know.. just taking over my father’s business. Handling a business is not that easy afterall. I thought as the superior, we can just sit back and relax in that big, comfy, leather chair that I always see,” she said.
“So she’s a ladyboss now. You know people don’t really favour ladybosses,” Hyuna commented.
“People say they are too fussy and demanding,” Jiyeon butted in, laughing along with Hyuna.
“Excuseee me. I am a different type of ladyboss okay. All my colleagues seemed to love me,” Hyemi defended herself.
“Things are always not what they seemed to be…” Hyuna said. I was struck by Hyuna’s last words. As if it was being aimed at me. I know its not.
We continued chatting like normal and I’ve noticed that Jay had treated Hyemi and Jiyeon like his sisters. They must have known him for quite some time. They asked Yoseob about his job and his ‘closeness’ with me. Typical Hyemi and Jiyeon. Never changes.
As we finished our dinner its quite late and Hyuna and Jay had to go home as Jay had work the next day and Jae Hee is already getting tired. We bid our goodbyes as Jay drove off at the open car park. I waited with Hyemi and Jiyeon while Yoseob went to the gents.
“I think we have to go home too. Actually I don’t but Jiyeon here has to meet her fiancé tomorrow morning and I don’t have a ride home. So yeah..” Hyemi said.
“Ahh.. I forgot that someone’s already engaged.” I chuckled.
“Yes Junhyung. I’ already engaged. Hyemi already has a long term boyfriend that may propose to her any time now. Hyuna is already married and has a 4-year old son. Maybe there’s even a next one coming! I mean look at Jay. Hyuna can’t resist that can she?” both Hyemi and Jiyeon laughed cheekily, not even noticing that I had somewhat turned into ice, frozen hearing those words.
“So when are you going to get at least a girlfriend Junhyung? Don’t tell me you and Yoseob are…..” Jiyeon turned slowly to Hyemi and Hyemi gasped.
“Ha-ha. Very funny. I’m still young. What’s the rush?” I said coolly when I am already panicking that most of my friends around me, except for my only bestfriend, has had a partner. It’s okay. I’m happy with Yoseob. As a friend of course.
“Umm hmm.. Its okay. You’re rich. Many ladies would want to be with you so you don’t have to find.” Hyemi smiled.
“But uh.. Junhyung.. just wondering… do you.. still have feelings for Hyuna?” Jiyeon asked cautiously.
Before I could answer, Hyemi cut in. “Of course not! Come on Jiyeon. Its been how many years! Plus I bet it’s just a puppy love back then. Right Jun?”
“Err yeah..” I cursed myself for not being able to at least lie confidently. Luckily, Yoseob came and stopped his car infront of us.
“Well I’ll see you girls around some other time yeah? Bye!” I didn’t want to be caught in that awkward situation and quickly went into the car. As I closed the door I said softly to Yoseob, “Go Seobbie. Go!”
Yoseob cluelessly drove away and I smiled through the window, waving at the both of them. That was lucky. Why do people always say it’s a puppy love? Are we like puppies during highschool???
