A Second Chance

Hey just a short update. :)

Junhyung's POV

"Oh Junhyung ah.." she said weakly. I walked to her side and kneeled down beside her chair. As I looked at her face, I could see her puffy eyes and tired face. It’s clear that she's not doing very well. I really felt guilty for not being there the whole time she go through all this.

"Mianhe.." I said softly. She looked confused.

"I called earlier and Jiyeon answered. She told me what happened. Mianhe Hyuna I didn’t get to know earlier. I would've been there for you."

She sighed. "Junhyung, everyone that came to me eversince Jay died has send their condolences to me and showed me their sympathy. I really don't need more of that now Jun.. All I need to do now is to think of how I'm going to raise my baby."

I smiled slightly and nodded. "So how's your business doing?" she asked, obviously changing the subject.

"It’s doing great. I'm getting more and more clients everyday." I tried to keep it low and not brag too much.

"That’s good. Jay really like how the pictures turned out." I remembered seeing the photos being put up in frames as I walked through her living room. It turned out better than I expected but now I don’t know if Hyuna still wants them up if it keeps reminding her of Jay.

I just nodded and looked at the ground. There was a long silence. I didn't really know what else to say.

"I have to go back to work now.. I'm scared," she murmured and chuckled softly at the end.

"What do you work as?" I asked, curious.

"I was a preschooler teacher. But I think I can only take as a part time job. I don't want to leave Jae Hee in a day care." She looked at Jae Hee that was sleeping soundly in her arms. She ran her fingers through his soft hair lovingly.

"I'm sure you'll do great even though you've not worked for awhile now," I said, giving her some encouragement.

She smiled gratefully. "Yeah but I won't earn much.. I guess we'll have to find a smaller apartment sooner or later." She seemed sad, thinking of letting go of the house. I’m sure there are a lot of memories with Jay in here.

"Mwoh? And sell this house?"

"Yeah Junhyung.. I mean it’s just the two of us now and this house is big. Plus the electricity bills must cost a ton and I don't think I can afford it now." I felt the urge of wanting to help her with the bills but like she said, it’s just the two of them now. They don’t really need this big house.

I nodded. Suddenly I thought of something. "You can have my apartment,” I said simply.

Her eyes grew big and she raised her eyebrows. "Mwoh?? No no Junhyung. I can't.."

"Why not? It’s not that big and I can move in with my mum. Really Hyuna its no trouble," I reassured her.

"No Junhyung. I really appreciate your help but I can't accept it. I'm really sorry but I just can't.." she looked at me apologetically.

I sighed and smiled. "Arasso. I won't force you. But if you need anything, tell me. I'll be there to help."

She nodded and smiled. Jiyeon came into the balcony with a bowl of rice and two glasses of water. "Here Junhyung," she said as she passed me a glass. I took it and thanked her.

She moved nearer to Hyuna. "Hyuna, please eat something. You've not eaten for hours."

Hyuna just shook her head. "I don't have the appetite Jiyeon. Don't worry about me." She smiled weakly. Jiyeon sighed and looked at me. I gestured to give Hyuna's food to me. She gave it to me and walked out of the balcony.

"Hyuna... You have to eat. Didn't you say you want to take care of Jae Hee? You need the strength," I said, bringing a spoon of rice to . She kept shut and shook her head. I retreat the spoon away and sighed. I glanced at Jae Hee who was sleeping in her arms.

"Yah you better eat this quick if not it will fall on Jae Hee's face," I said, my hand still holding on the spoon and coincidentally it was right above Jae Hee's head.

She frowned. "You wouldn't dare."

I smirked. "Try me." She puffed her cheeks and opened hesitantly. I fed her and she swallowed obediently. I smiled.

"Are you working tomorrow?" she asked while waiting for me to take the fifth spoon of rice.

"Ani. I don't have any appointments tomorrow. Wae?" I said, giving her the next spoon of rice.

"Nothing. Junhyung, people say that when people die, they are still watching over you from the heavens. Is it true?" she asked innocently.

"Well, different people have their own beliefs. For me, I believe it’s true. They will watch over their loved ones but just that. I don't think they can help us who are still living. That is why we have to live well so we don't worry them."  She nodded thoughtfully while Jae Hee's hair. She yawned and blinked her eyes a few times. I just looked at her face although she's not looking at me. How can this happen to you Hyuna.. What did you do to deserve this? You don't deserve this. You really don't.

"You should sleep. I can see you're tired," I said.

She smiled. "You should go home too. It's getting dark." I just chuckled.

"Ara ara.. I go home and you sleep ok?" I said.

She turned to me and nodded. I got up on my feet after a long time of kneeling down. She tried to get up to walk me to the door but I stopped her.

"It’s okay. Just stay here." I smiled.

"Thanks Junhyung. Goodnight." She smiled. I just nodded and smiled. If I could, I would have kissed her cheek or forehead. But I didn’t want to be seen as taking advantage of the situation.

I walked to the living room and was greeted by a lady whom I assume is her mother.

"Going home already?" she asked politely. I nodded. She smiled and took the empty bowl and glass.

"Thank you for dropping by and make Hyuna smile again. I don't know how you did it, but you made her eat. All of us gave up after she refused several times. Thank you again Junhyung."

"I just tried my best too Mrs Kim. I think we all want the best for Hyuna and hope she'll get well soon." She just nodded and walked me to the door.

As I got on my bike, I glanced at Hyuna who was at the balcony. She was already asleep with Jae Hee in her arms.

Chapter 29: OMG. UGLY SOBBING. No lie - my eyes just won't stop leaking tears lol. UGH. I'm an incoherent spazz right now. This story, your writing, HYUNA. JAY. JUNHYUNG. EVERYTHING has put me through an emotional roller coaster and I can't really process my thoughts well enough to give you anything constructive other than my eternal feelz LOL.
So, I think I'm in the minority here but I literally SQUEALED when it was revealed early on that Hyuna was married to Jay. Not gonna lie, I am a hardcore Jay/Hyuna shipper. There isn't enough fanfic about them sadly :( so I was shocked and beside myself reading all the adorably sweet Jay/Hyuna moments. Ugh, it was heartbreaking when he died...I literally choked and let out a sob and had to walk away for a breather.
I think what I love most about this story is that the ending (though heartbreaking) leaves a rather ambiguous message that can be taken either way. We know Hyuna is Junhyung's only true love but is Junhyung Hyuna's? I found myself torn .. when she was still alive, I thought that Jay's death was a way for her to find her way back to Junhyung but then she died and joined Jay and I changed my mind and thought maybe Jay is her true love/soul mate and she's finally returning to him. ANYWAY. I could be completely OFF and just insane but that's just a testament to your skill and how engaging this story is and how emotionally invested I became.
Junhyung was just heartbreaking from start to end. I felt for him and really the poor guy went through so much but I was incredibly touched that he finally got his family in the end, even without Hyuna. Your ending sentence had so much emotional impact and was absolutely perfect.
I know this is mainly a Junah love story but perhaps you wrote Jay and Hyuna's relationship so well I couldn't help but root for them instead (and I say this with Junah as my OTP). Hopefully if you find inspiration you might write a Jay/Hyuna centred fic next? hehe ^^
YOU'RE AMAZING. I'm off to read your other work!
