Hyuna’s POV

I opened my eyes slowly, only to have the direct sunlight to shine to my eyes. I squinted and realised that Jay wasn’t beside me. I held the blanket close to my chest to cover my body. I sat up and saw that Jay was sitting on the bed, backfacing me. The bed sheets were covering his lower body and he was just staring at the empty space. I went close to him and wrapped my arms around his waist slowly, resting my body on his . He turned his head slightly and smiled. He held my hands close to his chest and kissed one of them lightly.

“Had a good sleep?” he asked. I just nodded on his back since he can’t see behind.

“Do you want to bathe together?” I chuckled.

“What, round two?” Jay asked, turning behind. I laughed.

He turned his body and held my hands in his. He leaned forward and his lips met mine. At first it started with just a simple kiss but then he moved in deeper and his tongue started exploring my mouth. He slowly broke the kiss and stared intensely into my eyes, smiling.

The silent, romantic moment was ruined by the sudden shout by Jae Hee, running into our room.

“Ommaaaaa!!! Appaaaa!!!” he shouted, running towards our bed and jumped onto the bed. He smiled widely.

“Goodmorning my little star…” Jay said, pinching his chubby cheeks.

“Appa, you said we’ll bathe together in the morning right? See! I still remember! Omma, join us!” Jae Hee said happily.

Jay made a face to me as if telling me “aisshh… we can’t have round two..”. I laughed and smacked his arm playfully.

I smiled at Jae Hee. “Okay! Its been a long time since we do that. Jae Hee-ah, can you help omma to fill the bathtub with water? Not too cold and not too hot. You can do that right?” I asked, running my fingers through his soft hair.

He nodded enthusiastically and ran to the bathroom. Jay kissed my forehead lightly before getting up and wearing his boxers. He went to the bathroom to assist Jae Hee and taking off his pyjamas. I wore one of Jay’s large sized tees and went to the bathroom.

As soon as the tub was filled, I mix in the soap, creating a lot of foam and bubbles. I went into the bathtub first, wetting the t-shirt and taking it off as my body is fully covered by the foam. Jay carried Jae Hee and placed him inside, facing me. He then went behind me inside the tub making me sit in between his legs and hugged my waist closely.

I was cleaning Jae Hee with the sponge while he was playing with the water and bubbles. Suddenly he looked up at me and Jay. “Appa! Don’t hug omma so closely! I want to hug omma also!” he said cutely.

Both of us laughed. “Close? You mean like this?” Jay hugged me even tighter and closer to his body. I chuckled.

“Appa~” Jae Hee whined.

The laughed faded slowly and Jay spoke. “Jae Hee-ah, if appa is not around, make sure you take care of omma okay?”

Jae Hee tilted his head. “Where are you going appa?”

“One day, I might go to the clouds up there and may never come back. You have to be brave and take care of omma ara?” Jay said sweetly.

I was just looking at Jae Hee, expecting him to cry or ask even more questions.

“But appa, I’m just 4 years old. How can I take care of omma?”

“You can take care of her by loving her, appreciating everything that she did for you, not making her angry or sad and just make her smile always. Can you do that Jae Hee?” he asked.

Jae Hee thought about it for awhile and then nodded his head. “I will try appa! I promise you!”

Jay and I just smiled. I feel lucky to have a son like Jae Hee.

Junhyung’s POV

I stared at my phone for the 10th time. Should I call her? Why didn’t she call me? What are you saying Junhyung… she’s married! Why would she call you when she’s already happy living her life with Jay. I shut my eyes and sighed heavily. I ran my fingers through my hair. Aishh…..

Suddenly my receptionist went into the studio.

“Junhyung, Mr and Mrs Lee are here,” Hana said. I still remember the first time she worked for me. She wanted to call me Mr Yong but I felt really uncomfortable being addressed too formally. She is 2 years younger than me but she’s already engaged. Me? I’m forever alone.

I open my eyes lazily to find her right infront of me. I jumped slightly in my seat. I cleared my throat as she giggled softly.

“Yes. They can come in now,” I said.

She smiled and went out. I prepared the studio when my clients walked in. Another newlywed. Another shoot. Time to focus Junhyung.

After the shooting, I rested on the sofa at the corner of the studio. Lying down, I put my arm over my forehead and closed my eyes. It’s been 4 days since the unexpected meeting. I still could not get the fact into my head that she’s married. That she’s not mine anymore. I’ve lost my chance. It hurts seeing the one you love, loving someone else.

“That should be me… holding your hand. That should be me… making you laugh. That should be me…..” the song That Should Be Me by Justin Bieber filled my studio. My eyes shot open to see who had disturbed my peace and played this annoying song. I’m not a hater, I just don’t favour him.

I turned and saw that Yoseob was walking in with his iphone in his hand, blasting that song. He was grinning from ear to ear. I frowned and sat up. I stared at him.

“Describing you much?” Yoseob said, smirking. Shut up Yoseob.

“Turn that off man..” I said.

He laughed but he turned off the song. He sat beside me and slung his arm over my shoulders. “Come on man.. there are other fishes in the sea…”

I grabbed his shoulders and shook him. “I don’t want other fishes! I want Hyuna!” I shouted frantically.

Yoseob’s eyes widened as I shake him. “Woah woah.. chill dude.. its been what, 8 years?”

“Nine.” I corrected him.

“Yeah 9. Its about a century already! Move on! Obviously she has no problem doing that..” he said coolly.

I raised an eyebrow and looked at him. “A century is a 100 years. Not 10 Yoseob.”

“Oh jinja? Ahhh… no wonder its called the 21st century…” I looked at him sceptically. He gave me an innocent look.

I leaned back on the sofa and stared at the ceiling. I sighed. Why can’t I forget you Kim Hyuna? Why?

“Let’s take a breather,” Yoseob said. I was about to answer when my phone rang. I answered it without even opening my eyes as I was leaning on the sofa.

“Yeoboseyo?” I answered lazily.

“Junhyung? Is that you?” the caller asked. My eyes shot open and I sat up straight. I recognised the voice immediately.

“Oh Hyuna! Yeah its me. What’s up?” I said cheerfully. Maybe a little too cheerful. Yoseob gave me a look and I just turned away.

“Jay and I want to come by your studio and get a family portrait. Erm.. do we need to set up an appointment or something?” she asked.

My smile sort of faded but I was still happy that she called. I rushed to my table and got my planner. “Oh really? Its okay you don’t have to have an appointment. Just tell me the time when you want to come. I can arrange it accordingly.”

Yoseob raised an eyebrow at me. I stuck my tongue out at him. Yes. I can be childish at times.

“That’s so nice of you Junhyung.. I think I’ll be able to make it at around 2pm. Is that okay?”

I smiled. I checked my planner and lucky for me I don’t have any client at that time. “Yeah sure! Plus if you want to wear something different for the photo shoot, you can just bring them and change in the studio. I have a changing room for my clients.”

She chuckled. Gosh I miss her laugh. “Will do. So I’ll see you at 2 then! Annyeong!” she hung up.

I smiled and turned to Yoseob. He tilted his head.

“What?” I asked.

“Are you going to keep waiting?” Yoseob said. I stayed silent.

“She’s married Junhyung.”

I my lips and looked at him. “No. I won’t wait anymore. We’re obviously are not meant to be. But it doesn’t mean I can’t try to be her friend again. Her close friend,” I said confidently.

He sighed and stood up. He walked towards me and placed a hand on my shoulder. “Just make sure you don’t go overboard. You don’t want to ruin someone’s marriage Jun. Especially if she’s someone you love.”

I smiled sadly. He’s right. From now on, I want to try to be part of her life once again. But just as a friend. She has a husband now so I mustn’t be too caring or protective of her. And I must not make jealousy get the better of me. If I love her as much as I said I am, I will be happy if she’s happy. Even if it’s not with me.

Chapter 29: OMG. UGLY SOBBING. No lie - my eyes just won't stop leaking tears lol. UGH. I'm an incoherent spazz right now. This story, your writing, HYUNA. JAY. JUNHYUNG. EVERYTHING has put me through an emotional roller coaster and I can't really process my thoughts well enough to give you anything constructive other than my eternal feelz LOL.
So, I think I'm in the minority here but I literally SQUEALED when it was revealed early on that Hyuna was married to Jay. Not gonna lie, I am a hardcore Jay/Hyuna shipper. There isn't enough fanfic about them sadly :( so I was shocked and beside myself reading all the adorably sweet Jay/Hyuna moments. Ugh, it was heartbreaking when he died...I literally choked and let out a sob and had to walk away for a breather.
I think what I love most about this story is that the ending (though heartbreaking) leaves a rather ambiguous message that can be taken either way. We know Hyuna is Junhyung's only true love but is Junhyung Hyuna's? I found myself torn .. when she was still alive, I thought that Jay's death was a way for her to find her way back to Junhyung but then she died and joined Jay and I changed my mind and thought maybe Jay is her true love/soul mate and she's finally returning to him. ANYWAY. I could be completely OFF and just insane but that's just a testament to your skill and how engaging this story is and how emotionally invested I became.
Junhyung was just heartbreaking from start to end. I felt for him and really the poor guy went through so much but I was incredibly touched that he finally got his family in the end, even without Hyuna. Your ending sentence had so much emotional impact and was absolutely perfect.
I know this is mainly a Junah love story but perhaps you wrote Jay and Hyuna's relationship so well I couldn't help but root for them instead (and I say this with Junah as my OTP). Hopefully if you find inspiration you might write a Jay/Hyuna centred fic next? hehe ^^
YOU'RE AMAZING. I'm off to read your other work!
