A Second Chance

I just sat on the dining table when I rushed up again and ran to the bathroom. It been 2 months since Hyuna moved in. We grow comfortable with each other but still no signs of getting back together. I wouldn’t rush her. I’m just glad we get to be friends again like old times. I mean, that’s how we get to know each other anyway. As friends.

I wanted to vomit out all the contents of the previous night which I barely ate, but nothing came out except for some saliva. The uneasy feeling in my stomach really made my appetite vanish.

“Jun? Are you okay?” Hyuna asked as she stood by the bathroom door. I washed my mouth and turned to her. I just smiled weakly and nodded. She looked very concerned.

“You’ve been like this for 3 days. Are you sick?” she asked as she helped me to walk out of the bathroom.

“I’m not sure. I think I’m going to the clinic today. Just to check,” I said with a smile. She nodded.

“I’ll follow you,” she said.

“Its okay Hyuna. I can go by myself. You should stay home and rest.” We walked to the dining table and I sat down.

“You’re the one who should be resting Junhyung. We’ll go and pick up Jae Hee together after your appointment with the doctor. Arasso?” she said. Since she insisted, I just agreed. Actually I wasn’t sure myself if I could get to the doctor safely in the condition. I’m not sick. Well at least I don’t feel that I am. But its just there is the uneasy feeling along my throat and stomach that makes me want to throw up.

I got ready as simple as possible with only a plain white v-neck shirt and denim jeans. We went out and walked to the nearby clinic. Since its already been two months, Hyuna’s baby bump has already started showing up. I’m happy to say that we actually look like a couple. Unfortunately, we’re not. But that’s a fact that passer-bys don’t know and they don’t have to.

We were waiting for our turn to be called in when an elderly woman sat beside Hyuna with her grandchild by her side. She smiled at us as a form of greeting and we did the same. We were bored so we started playing thumb wrestling and she tried to poke my side to make my thumb let go of hers. I just laugh at her failed attempt and counted to ten easily as I held her thumb down. I raised both my arms cheering in a hushed tone and smiled in victory at Hyuna. As my prize, I get a smack on the arm.

“You’re such a sweet couple,” the elderly woman said to us as we were busy giggling. We stopped giggling awkwardly and I coughed slightly. We just smiled politely to her. Its been way too many time that this kind of situation happened. We are too tired to correct them any longer. They are just strangers anyway.

“Congratulations,” she said, gesturing to Hyuna’s baby bump.

“Thank you,” Hyuna said by herself. I can’t thank her. That’s not my child. How I wish that it was.

My number is finally being called and we went into the doctor’s room. I knocked twice before entering with Hyuna. Hyuna sat right infront of the doctor’s desk and I sat beside the desk, where patients normally sit.

“So Mr Yong, how can I help you?” the male doctor asked.

“Erm.. I’ve been having this uneasy feeling in my stomach and the back of my throat these past few days. I felt like vomiting but nothing came out,” I explained.

“Hmm.. does this occurs everytime of the day?”

“No. Only in the morning and sometimes at night.” He tilted his head slightly in confusion and glanced for a second at Hyuna. He just smiled.

“Its okay. Lets just have you checked,” he said. He carried out the normal processes such as my temperature, reflexes and my heartrate. Everything was normal.

“Okay so you don’t have any fever or any other illnesses as far as I can see. Erm.. may I ask, is this your first child Mr Yong?” he asked.

“Sorry?” I was caught off-guard by his sudden question that my eyes widened slightly, leaning my head forward.

“Is this your first child?” he asked again.

“I’m-“

“No its not. This is the second,” Hyuna cut me off and answered instead. I turned to her, raising my eyebrows slightly. She just smiled and me and then the doctor.

“Ah.. then I guess its different this time,” he said.

“What’s different? I don’t get what you’re trying to say,” I said blurly.

He smiled. “Well it has yet to be proved scientifically, but sometimes, rarely actually, the husbands are the one who gets the morning sickness when the wife is expecting. They say that the husband’s love or the wife’s love for another is too strong that the husband so called, willingly take half the burden of the pregnancy for the wife. You must really love your wife Mr Yong,” he chuckled slightly but then smiled impressed. Bwoh??

My jaw literally dropped, blinking my eyes in shocked. I seriously couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I didn’t even dare to look at Hyuna. The doctor just laughed looking at our expressions.

“Don’t worry Mr Yong, just endure it for a few more months. When the baby is about 2-3 months due, your morning sickness will be gone.” He smiled.

“But we’re not-“ Not husband and wife. How can we have that bond?

“Not prepared for this. Thank you so much doctor. Now I’m slightly relieved that he’s not sick or anything,” Hyuna cut me again.

We went out of the room, when I was still dazed of what just happened and what I just heard. But then again, why didn’t Hyuna correct him? She must have wondered why I so called took her morning sickness for her.

“Why didn’t you correct the doctor?” I took the courage to ask her as we were walking back home to take my car and pick up Jae Hee.

“Its tedious. That’s all,” she said, biting her lip.

“Or is it that you… know?” Did she find out that I still love her?

“Know what?” she asked, looking on the ground.

“That I still love you?” I blurted out.

“What?” She stopped walking instantly and turned to me. Her face was shocked. Beyond shocked.

“What?” I repeated her. What the hell did I just say? . Deep .

Sorry this chapter is a little short. I'll update again later when I get some ideas how to solve this cliffhanger. XD

Chapter 29: OMG. UGLY SOBBING. No lie - my eyes just won't stop leaking tears lol. UGH. I'm an incoherent spazz right now. This story, your writing, HYUNA. JAY. JUNHYUNG. EVERYTHING has put me through an emotional roller coaster and I can't really process my thoughts well enough to give you anything constructive other than my eternal feelz LOL.
So, I think I'm in the minority here but I literally SQUEALED when it was revealed early on that Hyuna was married to Jay. Not gonna lie, I am a hardcore Jay/Hyuna shipper. There isn't enough fanfic about them sadly :( so I was shocked and beside myself reading all the adorably sweet Jay/Hyuna moments. Ugh, it was heartbreaking when he died...I literally choked and let out a sob and had to walk away for a breather.
I think what I love most about this story is that the ending (though heartbreaking) leaves a rather ambiguous message that can be taken either way. We know Hyuna is Junhyung's only true love but is Junhyung Hyuna's? I found myself torn .. when she was still alive, I thought that Jay's death was a way for her to find her way back to Junhyung but then she died and joined Jay and I changed my mind and thought maybe Jay is her true love/soul mate and she's finally returning to him. ANYWAY. I could be completely OFF and just insane but that's just a testament to your skill and how engaging this story is and how emotionally invested I became.
Junhyung was just heartbreaking from start to end. I felt for him and really the poor guy went through so much but I was incredibly touched that he finally got his family in the end, even without Hyuna. Your ending sentence had so much emotional impact and was absolutely perfect.
I know this is mainly a Junah love story but perhaps you wrote Jay and Hyuna's relationship so well I couldn't help but root for them instead (and I say this with Junah as my OTP). Hopefully if you find inspiration you might write a Jay/Hyuna centred fic next? hehe ^^
YOU'RE AMAZING. I'm off to read your other work!
