Memories

The Leaf and the Legends

Seeing Mina off, Chanyeol's eyes shifted quickly to a moving figure in the distance.

"She's not going to choose you."

"What makes you so sure?" Chanyeol inquired back steadily.

"Because, she's going to be with me," Kris answered, making his presence fully known as he stepped into the light of the campfire.

"She cares about me just as much as she cares about you."

"Yeah, but I care for her more than you do."

"There's no way to prove that... Look, Kris." Chanyeol muttered, realizing that the conversation could only progress into something undesirable. "I don't want to do this. You don't remember, but we had a really great relationship. We were really close and I want that again, I don't want this."

At his words, Kris nodded "I agree, I don't want this either." Reaching his hand out the the phoenix, the Legend smiled. "Just leave her and we won't have to do this."

Sighing and lightly shaking his head, Chanyeol frowned. "I tried... but I can't."

"Well, neither can I... so where does that leave us?"

"I don't know... but I don't like it too much."

"I'm not too bothered by it," Kris replied, vaguely shrugging off the issue.

"It's easy for you to say that... you don't get to remember me the way I remember you," Chanyeol replied, audibly pained at the dragon's careless words.

"Whatever the case, I'm firm in my stance. And from what I know now, you're a good guy Chanyeol. I don't want you to get hurt."

Meeting the dragon's gaze, Chanyeol's eyes were sharp. "Same here."

Walking off without another comment, the words of the phoenix remained spinning around in Kris's consciousness. After a while, the Legend began feeling a bit uneasy and decided to seek out Luhan, a single word rolling off his tongue. "Remember..."

- - -

"Woah." Looking at the ever growing city of Monolith in the late afternoon, Mina couldn't help but allow her amazement pass through her lips. She had never before seen such a place. Skyscrapers so high it seemed as though they could touch the sky and a complex infrastructure of roads as far as the eyes could see. However, she wasn't the only one in awe of the spectacle; everyone inside the vehicle seemed to be enchanted by the impressive city as their eyes stayed glued to the surroundings outside.

"How are we going to find Xiu in this place?" Tao asked sheepishly. "It's so much bigger than I imagined it."

"It is bigger than I thought it'd be as well," Luhan added.

Only feeing the same sense of worry briefly, Mina smiled and looked over to the two Legends. "Don't worry! We have the best possible line up for tackling this city." Pointing to Tao she began, "A time controller to keep people from intervening, a telepath to seek out Xiumin's mind and help us stay connected, myself to pin point his location and the best driver on our team to get us there safely."

"Yeah!" Lyn said confidently.  "Plus, I have these streets memorized," she added, a smile playing upon her lips. "We'll find him before you even know it!"

"Yeah..." Mina repeated, feeling her stomach twist in a nervous knot. "We can do this."

Driving straight into the city, the group of four went over the plan as created by Daniel and Suho. They'd enter the city and look for the Legend. Despite the simplistic nature of the plan, there loomed the ever present sense of danger of being caught by either Chasers or Kai. Luhan already was aware that he could not break through Kai's mind and without Baekhyun they stood no chance against the compromised Legend. They had to be as quick and stealthily as possible.

Navigating the busy city, Monolith proved to be a place unlike any other; both in size and in population density. With streets filled with people, Mina started feeling ill. Not noticing it before, the girl's senses had been heightened after absorbing the powers of the Legends and she had yet adjust to them properly.

Noticing this, Luhan spoke to her privately as to not alarm the others. "Listen to me. Mina, I need you to close your eyes and focus on Xiumin. I know it's overwhelming but you'll adjust soon enough. We have to just find him first."

Shutting her eyes, Mina complied. She had no other choice, she had to push past the over stimulation and focus.

Focus.

Focus.

"We should be getting a call soon," Daniel said, nervously eyeing his cell phone.

Just outside the city limits in a spot that seemed to be a resting stop for travelers, the group of seven remained waiting for the others and keeping a watch out for the Red Force.

"What happens if we don't receive the call?" Chen asked for clarification.

"We send in Kris and myself," Suho responded.

"But we have to give them at least five minutes extra. What they are doing is not easy," D.O. interjected. "Not only are they moving but it's possible that Xiu is also."

"They'll find him. They definitely won't come back without him," Chanyeol said confidently.

"Yeah, they'll be fine," Yixing added.

Almost as if the world had heard the healer, a dark and looming chill passed over the group. Knowing what was coming next, the Legends spread out and prepared for the inevitable fight. Seeing the change in the dispositions of the Legends, Daniel threw himself into the vehicle and began enacting the prepared plan of action. Grabbing his phone and turning on the car he called Mina.

"Pick Up. Pick Up!"

- - -

Hearing her cell ring as the group switched lanes from the major highway to the nearest access roads, Mina fiddled around to pull it from her pocket, until Luhan picked it up for her.

"Daniel?"

"Luhan?"

"Yes. No Xiumin yet, but we are headed to the second place you suggested. We are currently working our way through the city at a really high speed and Tao has had to stop five police cars from pursuing us and I've had to mind sweep a large amount of people. How are things over there?"

"We have Chasers."

"Ah, us as well."

"I thought so. Can you make out the type of Chaser?" Daniel asked, wanting to assess the situation.

"We haven't had to face them yet, we can only sense them," Luhan replied.

"Stop! Stop! Stop! Stop!"

"I can't stop Mina!" Lyn yelled back at her friend.

"You're passing by him! Xiumin is that way!" Mina cried out.

"Okay, I'll make a U-turn."

"You finally sense him?" Tao asked, breaking his concentration for a moment.

Keeping her eyes on the road, Mina saw an oncoming car swerve as Lyn jumped lanes. "Tao!"

Refocusing, Tao managed to stop the swerving car mere inches away from their vehicle, allowing the group to move without any damage taken.

"We'll call you soon, after we have Xiumin," Luhan said, preemptively hanging up the phone and returning his own focus back on the road.

- - -

"They're targeting him again," Kyungsoo noted, fending off the growing number of Chasers.

"Why?" Suho asked, seeing the phenomenon for the first time.

"We don't know," Lay answered.

"Kris, behind you!" Chanyeol yelled, seeing a quick moving Chaser head directly for the Legend.

Destroying it before the dragon had the chance to even face it, Chen gave Kris a brief smirk and continued fighting his own enemy.

"We have to move!" Suho yelled to the others. "We're too close to humans here."

"Follow me," Kris commanded, moving the fight further away from the city. Originally not being happy with the fact that he wasn't chosen to join Mina in the city, the dragon was now comforted by the idea that the more Chasers he took on the less Chasers would be following her. Even if not directly, he was protecting her.

- - -

Rushing out of the car, Lyn and Tao remained in their seats while Luhan and Mina began navigating the street. Taking the knowledge of the streets from Lyn and a random citizen, Luhan acted as the navigator, closely following Mina's directions.

"Will they be okay?" Mina nervously asked, running down an alley way, thinking of the companions left behind.

"Of course they will be. Tao is more than capable."

"Right."

Feeling the ominous feeling of emptiness upon them, Mina and Luhan knew it'd only get worse if they kept running.

"I'm going to have to stop and fight," Luhan communicated to the girl.

"I'll fight too."

"Stay put."

"I'm going to fight," Mina resolved.

Sighing, Luhan gave in. "Ready then?"

"Ready."

Stopping in an isolated alleyway, Mina and Luhan waited a moment for the Chasers to solidly appear in front of them. With the sky darkening and the temperature dropping, Mina followed Luhan's lead and began to defend. Still not possessing the fighting technique that the Legends had, Mina faulted a few times whist trying to fight but managed to pulled a small flame from within her and begin using it. Though faint at first, the flame eventually grew in size but remained easily manageable for Mina as she was able to utilize it as if it were a meteor hammer. Swinging it upward and down, left to right she was able to successfully defend herself, as Luhan worked to destroy the Chasers.

Soon, the fighting ceased as Luhan finished the last of the Chasers but Mina didn't stop, or rather she couldn't. A short while after smoothly controlling the fame, the girl had lost control over it. Realizing this, Luhan moved to stop it and hurriedly smothered the fire. Looking at the Legend, Mina smiled meekly.

"Thanks."

Seeing only a few cuts, scratches and scorch marks here and there on the girl, Luhan was impressed by her tenacity. Not once did he have to take a dive for her. But before he could praise her, she was off and running, still sensing the Legend known as Xiumin.

"He's in the building just ahead of us!" Running into the tall glass windowed building, the pair zoomed past a man sitting behind a counter that appeared to be a check-in desk. The building was a hotel, and a nice hotel at that. Jumping into the elevator, Mina took a look at the buttons and instinctively choose the top floor. Hearing the sound of music before reaching the top floor, Mina and Luhan exchanged hesitant glances.

With the doors opening, the two stepped out onto the roof to find a party going on. Feeling conflicted over the situation, Mina wasn't sure what to think. Everything in her said Xiumin was there, while logic dictated he wouldn't be so out in the open. Walking around a bit, Mina couldn't help but find herself staring at the party goers. All dressed nicely in a noticable city fashion, she was reminded of the life she had originally wanted to live. The city life. Looking at it now, did she still want that? Pushing those thoughts aside, Mina kept moving forward, until she finally saw him.

Sitting in the middle of a group of people, the Legend locked eyes with Luhan and smiled widely. Seeing this, Mina's jaw dropped. After fighting off Chasers and running around the huge city, seeing Xiumin smile at them worry-free was slightly exasperating. But seeing him jump up from his spot and move to embrace Luhan, Mina felt less irritated and more impressed. The Legend had somehow made friends with humans and seemed to be well adjusted to the environment of the city.

"About time," Xiumin said, smiling and hugging Luhan.

"Somehow, I'm not that surprised seeing where you ended up," the telepath replied, relieved to see his brother doing well.

Looking over to Mina, Xiumin had an intrigued look on his face, "Who are yo-"

Cutting off the newly discovered Legend, Luhan filled Xiumin in on everything. Blinking his eyes after receiving all the information, Xiumin looked relieved, concerned and joyous within seconds of each other. Learning everything at once would cause for some conflicting emotions, but it seemed as though he could handle it as he turned to Mina and wrapped his arms around her in a hug.

"Thanks Mina."

Smiling and patting the Legend on the back, Mina replied, "Yeah, don't mention it."

Loosening his hold, the Legend smiled and held the girl by the sides of her arms.

"You just fought off quite a lot of Chasers, how about some energy? It's the least I can do."

Her arms being held in place by Xiumin, Mina couldn't move in time to avoid the man's oncoming advance. Luckily, the two barley touched lips before Luhan managed to pulled her away and smack Xiumin on the head.

"When you ask a question, you should wait for an answer before you decide to do anything."

"Oh! Did you not want it?" Xiumin questioned looking at the girl, clutching his injured head.

Pursing her lips together, she nodded.

An apologetic look on his face, the Legend was quick to express his regret. "I'm so sorry!"

"It's okay," Mina reassured, knowing that he was sincere.

Looking relieved, Xiumin grinned and threw his arm around the girl. "So, do you want to meet some of my friends?"

- - -

"I'm going to call them," Daniel announced, looking at the group. Having fended off the Chasers, the group of seven waited for a sign of communication from the city team and was slowly growing weary.

"Let's go," Kris directed at Suho. "We shouldn't wait any longer."

"I'll come as well," Chanyeol suggested, fixing his posture from leaning against the vehicle.

"There's no need," Lay rejected.

"Why?" Chanyeol said, feeling put out.

"Because they're coming!" Chen answered, waving at a small blip in the distance.

Arriving to the place where they had departed from, the city team had added one more person to their numbers and as soon as the Legend showed his face, he was given a grand welcoming.

Watching the Legends have yet another mini reunion, Mina couldn’t help but feel extremely happy. She was really helping them again.

Seeing a few scorch marks on her clothing, Chanyeol made his way closer to the girl before greeting Xiumin. "Did you use it?" he asked anticipating.

Nodding her head, she smiled. "I was able to defend with it... though I did end up losing control, I still managed to use it."

"That's great!" Chanyeol praised, his eyes unable to hide his delight. "A few more lessons and you'll be a master."

"You- You think I could master it?" Mina questioned skeptically.

"Of course!"

Sharing a small moment of silence, the pair exchanged blissful smiles and uninterrupted eye contact that seemed to last longer than it actually did.

It was nice.

Having someone look that way at her... Mina had always wondered what it would feel like and now knowing it well she found that she enjoyed. Watching the high spirited and smiley Legend make his way over to Xiumin, Mina began recalling his words to her and receded into her own mind until her thoughts were cut short by the narrowing eyes of another, as Mina soon found Kris towering over her.

"You really pushed yourself hard today," the dragon whispered, lightly patting his hand on Mina's head. "You should get some sleep now."

"It's not that late," Mina replied, crossing her arms. "Plus, I want to chat with Xiumin a bit. He's a pretty funny guy. Also, Luhan as well."

"Luhan's funny?"

"I meant I want to talk with him more. He's really dependable and he really helped me today. Plus he's really interesting, being able to read minds and all. I might transfer some energy just to get his power!" Expecting a face of disapproval from Kris, Mina was not expecting to see him look upsettingly thoughtful.

While the Legend was usually in thought, his expression was uncharacteristically apprehensive.  "Luhan..." Kris began, moving his hand off of Mina's head and folding it into his other arm. "He said he could unlock my memories."

"Unlock?" Mina repeated, slightly puzzled. Taking a moment to figure it out in her head, her eyes widened. "You mean, he can bring back your memories?"

"Yes."

"That's fantastic!" the girl replied happily.

"Luhan said it was because of you that I hid away my memories."

"Because of me?"

"When we first met, I was weak and in response to all that had happened, I enacted some sort of defense mechanism in case the Red Force came after me and used me to get to the others."

"Wow...That's amazing. That ability I mean."

"Luhan said I had worked with him when creating such a fail-safe. He said I insisted on it to protect the others."

Making a connection, Mina nodded in understanding. "Right. It's kind of like a secret agent with a fake tooth cyanide pill."

"A fake cyanide tooth?"

"Yeah! In movies, if a secret agent ever got caught, they would remove the fake tooth with their tongue and bite down on the cyanide pill to protect their secrets. Though they died that way. So your way is much better. Although, it was extremely inconvenient. Not that a fake tooth with a cyanide pill would have been better.."

Somewhat unsurprisingly, the girl had become very proficient in making Kris lose his train of thought and he was finally catching the times when she'd seamlessly shift the conversation unintentionally but naturally. It was a very unique skill, albeit a bit of an annoyance. Still, having her talk normally and comfortably with a smile on her face made him happy.

"Do you even remember what we were talking about?" Kris questioned, sighing and tilting his head towards the girl.

"Secret agents?" Mina answered with a chuckle, feeling playful after the successful mission of finding Xiumin.

"Wrong!" Kris replied loudly, lightly thumping Mina on the head.

"I was kidding!" the girl replied, rubbing the spot Kris hit. "We were talking about your memories!" Taking advantage of Kris's still tilted head, Mina returned the light thump and continued talking. "Luhan can unlock them!"

"Right," Kris replied, not fazed by Mina's attack.

"So what are you waiting for? We've been waiting for this! I've been waiting for this! Tao and the others have been waiting for this!"  Patting Kris's crossed arms on both sides, she grinned up at him, but found that he didn't share her enthusiasm. "You've also been waiting for this... right?"

"I suppose."

"What do you mean you 'suppose'?"

Sighing, a frown momentarily formed on Kris's face. "I don't think I want them back."

Dropping her hands to her side, Mina stuttered at the unexpected revelation. "Wha- Why? Why wouldn't you want them?"

"I don't think the costs outweigh the benefits," Kris replied.

"What 'costs' are there?"

"...Luhan said I'll most likely forget everything that has happened since I hid away my memories."

"And?" Mina egged on, wanting to understand.

Looking back down at the girl in front of him, Kris sighed heavily again and placed his hands on her shoulders. "And that means, I'll forget you. I'll forget how I feel about you, I'll forget... I'll forget ever loving you."
