YoonTae bonding

My Amajjing In-Laws

Taeyeon watched as Yoona squirmed in her seat. The girl was nervous; either by her presence or perhaps at the thought of almost getting caught. One thing is for sure: Yoona is lying about something…Taeyeon could always tell when people had something to hide.

Unknown to her, her youngest daughter was just as guilty as Yoona, if not more as it was her idea to keep YoonHyun’s living together a secret from TaeNy. After all, Taeyeon can never fathom the idea of sweet and innocent Seobaby disobeying her. Victoria perhaps…but never Seohyun.

Even as a child, Seohyun seldom gave TaeNy a headache. She was the perfect daughter; obedient, studious, and respectful. She is easily the epitome of the ideal child. Taeyeon taught her well: from formal speech to the art of law; even her persistence and dedication to work rubbed off on her daughter. And TaeNy couldn’t be prouder.

The phone suddenly rings, cutting the thick and awkward atmosphere.

Tiffany stood up to answer it but Taeyeon patted her wife’s back to signal her that she’s got it.

“Honey, I’ll get it”, Taeyeon says before exiting the living room and going to the nearest room with a phone in it: the kitchen.

“Hello?” Taeyeon answers, only to be greeted by the familiar voice of the man she has been in contact with for the past month. Taeyeon looks around to make she wasn’t within earshot of the other three women.

The three were now cheerily conversing amongst themselves in the other room.

Clear.

Taeyeon reverted her attention back to the phone and in a low covert voice, she spoke, “Any problems with the documents?....

Good…

Now, you have to be careful when you call here…

Nobody in my family knows yet…

No…not even my wife…

If anyone else answers, just use a Southern accent and ask for the vegetarian special, okay?

Good… I’ll meet you at the SM 7-Eleven drugstore near my house at exactly 1300; approximately 30 minutes from now”

Taeyeon hung up just as Tiffany entered the kitchen to mix herself another cup of tea.

“Was that the airlines Taengoo? Yoona said they should be calling her today if they managed to locate her bag”

“No, honey. Wrong number”, Taeyeon smiles at her innocently which her wife didn’t fail to pick up; Being married to Taeyeon for so many years gave her the acquired ability to read her wife like an open book. If there was one thing she’s learned about Taeyeon’s personality, it was that she kept a lot of secrets.

Regardless, she played along and continued her role of ‘supportive yet clueless wife’ as she has done all these years. “I see…well…I just hope it’s not another ‘job’. You know how I feel about that”, she said in a knowing tone as she calmly mixes her tea.

“I know. Don’t worry.”, Taeyeon smiles at her with warmth, appreciating her non-prying personality, quite certain that her wife can sense that something was amiss yet stays out of her business. Tiffany understood her need for space which is why she seldom made physical advancements aside from the occasional light and subtle touches.

Away from YoonHyun’s eyes, Taeyeon decided to show Tiffany her appreciation. She briefly kisses her wife’s nape before wrapping her arms around her waist; her back hug was light and a little distant, but very reassuring---more than enough for Tiffany.

“You know, you can learn a thing or two from Seohyun”, Tiffany said.

“What do you mean?”, Taeyeon says as she rests her chin on her wife’s shoulders.

“Didn’t you see how she held her hand in front of us?”, Tiffany turned her head to look at her wife.

Her look said it all. Taeyeon definitely saw it…but her daughter’s actions worried her. Perhaps she feels this girl was breaking Seohyun’s walls far too quickly…
Not even a year of moving out and a strange girl suddenly walks into Seohyun’s life. And sn apparently big part of her life at that, as indicated by her uncharacteristic actions. Just how did this peculiar and childish woman manage to win over their Seobaby, who is the seemingly polar opposite of her?

And what if this woman decides to suddenly leave Seohyun? or worse, cheat on her? Seohyun would never recover…

Taeyeon has seen it happen before…

She knew how it felt.

Tiffany was worried too but instead of being wary, she was optimistic. This quirky girl could just be the balance Seohyun needed in her life, as what Tiffany is to Taeyeon.
The two peeked at the corner to where YoonHyun was sitting; Yoona could be seen letting out a deep breath of relief as Seohyun took her hands into her own in a protective manner, “it wasn’t that bad, right?”, TaeNy heard her coo.

And TaeNy saw it; how Seohyun was slowly relearning how to convey her feelings…

They melted at the sight of their Seohyun being so openly caring---in moderation of course as the parents knew she would not do that in front of anyone else.

Indeed, growing up, Seohyun rarely witnessed PDA from her parents resulting in her current hesitance to show any type of PDA herself. But that doesn’t mean she didn’t see Taeyeon and Tiffany’s strong love for each other. Their ‘PDA’ took the form of fresh flowers, original poems, songs and post-it notes; basically any indirect way of showing someone you care. Words meant a lot more to Seohyun than actions ever did…which is completely opposite of Yoona who valued actions over words as she grew up seeing her parents YulSic all over each other; the morning kisses, the back hugs and the flirty eye locks although the two seldom uttered words of love for one another in front of her; tough love as she would call it.

Taeyeon lets go of Tiffany when she spots YoonHyun getting up from their seats and starts making their way towards the kitchen.

“Mom, can I use the computer? Yoona needs to check the status of her lost bag,”, Seohyun said when she entered the kitchen with Yoona right beside her.

“Of course you can. You don’t even need to ask~”, Tiffany said as she began to lead them towards her office, her brewed tea in hand.

“Well, I need to buy some supplies for tonight’s dinner so I’m going to the store real quick to stock up”, Taeyeon said as she took the car keys lying on the counter.

“Well, Yoona should go with you”, Seohyun suddenly said, earning her a shock expression from both Yoona and Taeyeon.

“Yoong, you might need something in case we can’t get your bag today”, she said to her girlfriend.

“Oh, I’m sure it’ll turn up”, Yoona quickly said, wary of being in a car with Seohyun’s crazy mother.

“Yes. I might run other errands after all. Yoona will just get bored”, Taeyeon agreed, not wanting to be put in a compromising situation.

“But you don’t even have a toothbrush”, Seohyun didn’t waver her stance and was more than adamant about her appa and girlfriend spending quality time together.

Tiffany crinkled her nose in support, “Yeah, you’re going to need a toothbrush~”. Tiffany’s keen sense of smell contributed to yet a second awkward moment.

Yoona blushed suddenly aware of the possible stench that might be exuding out of every time she uttered a word. But still, she gave Seohyun a pleading look full of aegyo although the latter ignored it.

Hyunnieeee~

“Go with appa, Yoongie”

Yoona subtly pouted before turning to Taeyeon, “Okay, unless you want some privacy, Mrs. Kim-Hwang?” She made sure to slightly turn her head away from Taeyeon’s direction…just in case her breath really did stink…

Please say you do!~, Yoona thought desperately.

Reverting back to her defensive persona, Taeyeon replies with a raised brow, “Why would I need privacy?”

‘….No, I didn’t think you would need privacy….seeing that you probably bugged this whole house with cameras…’

“Well, I’ll be in the car. Come, Kwon-Jung”, Taeyeon motions for her to follow as she walked away.

“Good”, Tiffany smiled.

“Bye”, Yoona bowed to Tiffany before walking up to Seohyun to give her a quick peck on the cheek.

“Have fun, you guys”

SeoFany

TaeNy Residence: Tiffany’s office

“Seohyun, she seems wonderful~”

“She is”

After witnessing her Seobaby’s uncharacteristic display of affection, Tiffany couldn’t help but wonder exactly how much Seohyun has given for this Yoona so she decided to bluntly ask, “So…have you guys…you know…done ‘it’?”

Seohyun face flushed red in disbelief and embarrassment, “Mother~!!!”

“What? I’m just curious~
Fine, at least answer this: Are you thinking of anything….permanent?”, Tiffany raised a brow in insinuation: marriage.

Seohyun took a second to ponder.

“Well…Yoona and I haven’t really discussed it but I have the feeling she’s the one…”

Tiffany suddenly squeals and hugged her daughter as she jumped up and down.

“Mom!~ Stop, you’re suffocating me~”, Seohyun whines with a flustered face, a bit embarrassed by the sudden hug from her mother. Yes, even PDA from her own mother made her uncomfortable. In fact, Seohyun was only comfortable with hugs from her Taeyeon appa seeing that the two showed their affection the same way. It wasn’t overwhelming (at least in Taeyeon and Seohyun’s eyes) unlike Tiffany’s loving yet suffocating hugs.

Tiffany lets go of the hug only to put an arm around her daughter’s shoulder, a wide smile still on her face. Seohyun couldn’t help but just smile back at her mother.

“omma…appa will approve…right?”

Tiffany’s smile began to fade but she quickly recovered and kept them in place before Seohyun noticed.

“Of course, Seobaby”

Taeyeon’s Car

The car ride was awkwardly silent. The two would open their mouths as if to begin a very forced conversation, only to close them again in hesitation, further darkening the atmosphere between them.

Yoona opened a window and looked outside in order to avoid Taeyeon while the latter the radio, in attempts to do the same.

Minutes pass until Yoona broke the silence. She attributed her new-found confidence to the alcohol she unknowingly consumed earlier; this was an opportunity after all.

“I’m glad we have a second to talk, Mrs. Kim-Hwang…I just want you to know how Seohyun means to me…”

Taeyeon kept her eyes glued to the road while Yoona intently watched her. As far as Taeyeon was concerned, she has yet to see “evidence” of this aside from their overbearing PDA which Taeyeon isn’t exactly fond of; after all, anybody could hold someone’s hands without feeling anything. It was easy, or so Taeyeon thinks.
What Yoona was telling her…they were just words without meaning; she couldn’t take it seriously.

“I know we haven’t been together for that long but my feelings for Seohyun are---“

Wary of the sensitive subject, Taeyeon changed topics, “Yoona, why do you hate cats?”. She figured she could try and find out more about Yoona’s personality.

Taken aback, Yoona stuttered, “Umm I-I don’t…not like cats…I just prefer dogs…”

“Hmm well yes, dogs are cute, I’ll admit…wagging their tails as if happy to see you. You need that assurance? You prefer an emotionally shallow animal?”

“Uhh…I…”, Yoona squirmed in her seat.

“You see, Yoona. A dog is very easy to break. Cats on the other hand make you work for their affection”

“Oh, but--”

“They don’t sell you out the way dogs do”

Yoona laughed nervously.

‘OMG…she’s crazy!’

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Awkward silence fills the car once again. It became a normal thing between the two that it was almost comfortable. Taeyeon turned up the radio, playing the song “If You’re Not the One”, by David Bedingfield.

“I used to listen to this song back in the day. It’s one of my favorites”, Taeyeon suddenly says, more to herself than to Yoona.

Taeyeon reminisce. With the familiar melody came the attached memories; both good and bad. She was so deep in thought that Taeyeon failed to notice that she started singing along, completely forgetting Yoona, who sat on the passenger seat right beside her, mouth slightly agape at the unexpected sight.

Yoona tried to hide her disbelief; this woman did have a soft side after all.

But she was glad; it put her somewhat at ease.

Her voice was beautiful…much like Seohyun’s.

As Yoona listened to the meaningful lyrics quietly sang by Seonhyun's mother, she couldn't help but feel the emotions spewing out.

The song was about someone who couldn't be with their true love…

It was then Yoona realized the woman before her had many layers to her facade. Many, many layers...

If I don’t need you then why am I crying on my bed?
If I don’t need you then why does your name resound in my head?
If you’re not for me then why does this distance maim my life?
If you’re not for me then why do I dream of you as my wife?

I don’t know why you’re so far away
But I know that this love is true
We’ll make it through

Cause I love you, whether it’s wrong or right
'though I can’t be with you tonight
You know that my heart is by your side
I don't want to run away but I can't take it,
I don't understand.
If I'm not meant for you then why does my heart tell me that I am?
Is there anyway that I could stay in your arms?

--------------------------------------------------------------------

flashback...

Taeyeon, still in her twenties, stood in front of a very large man shielding his daughter just behind him in a protective manner. The girl stood on her toes as she tried to look over his broad shoulders to get a glimpse of her lover.

Her gaze albeit nervous further encouraged her to continue with this almost-suicidal plan of hers.

Taeyeon bowed deeply to the man, hoping to finally receive the blessing she dutifully and patiently sought after.

“I’d like to ask for your daughter’s hand in marriage”, she said firmly, head still bowed as she feared looking into that intimidating glare.

Silence.

But Taeyeon kept her stance, hoping the man would give her his approval but instead, out came the words of disdain that completely broke Taeyeon apart:

“ I refuse.

...And just what makes you think that you are good enough for my daughter?”

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Mrs. Kim-Hwang…I actually wanted to ask you something…”, Yoona began, interrupting Taeyeon’s daydreaming. The bitter sweet song somehow struck Yoona hard as she decided to just be blunt about it; she wanted to marry Seohyun. She couldn't and didn't want to stall it any further, after all, she only had a weekend to get her approval.

Yoona took a deep breath.

“I would like to ask for your daugh---“

Before Yoona could finish, the car violently swerves as Taeyeon unexpectedly steers the car off the road.

So yeah, I thought TaeNy needed more moments so I released this kinda-filler chapter.

It's mostly in Taeyeon's POV so it's not as comedic as the usual chapter although it's quite informative.

It brings up a lot of questions regarding TaeNy; 1st: Taeyeon’s job. It’s quite obvious the woman isn’t just a florist xD, 2nd: Taeyeon's past.

Seobangs are very sneaky! OMO

Like this story? Give it an Upvote!
Thank you!

Chapter 38: I reread this story over and over again. I just take the last updated one as the FINAL chapter and I leave the rest to imagination. This is still the best YoonHyun story I've ever read and it definitely a loss that u wasn't able to finish. If somehow one magical day u manage to salvage the contents of ur hard disk, please update even if it's in rough draft cos I would love the closure. Thank u again for this magnificent story, author!

Sorry faithful readers T-T i’m truly humbled by your kind words and loyalty. It’s only appropriate I feel overwhelming embarrassment that I never finished this; especially after discovering that readers are still waiting for an update.
The descent began when I took a long break from soshified due to school. I basically already wrote the ending but wanted to make the final chapter “perfect” that I just kept putting it off. The little time I had left didn’t help. Then my hard drive broke which contained all the files I had, including MAIL season 2, Burying the Hatchet, Etenal Promise, and more. The thought of starting over was too much so I waited and hoped Iid find the time and motivation to do it. Weeks turned to months, months turned to years.
I had a spark of inspiration a year ago so I attempted to log in soshified to see if people still remembered this story. Unfortunately, I lost access to that account. It wasn’t until a month ago that I realized I had this account as well. I’m so shocked and grateful to discover people are still interested. I’d hate to break your heart one more time, but a final chapter isn’t likely. I’ve forgotten most of the plot. Even if I reread my old chapters for clues, the way I write has changed. It would not be true to the tone of MAIL and I rather leave it unfinished than give you an unfit ending. Perhaps I’ll eventually have my hard drive fixed when I find the parts and have the funds $$$. But that isn’t likely. I moved on to other projects.
The good news is I still write, but I’m in a completely different fandom.

If any of you are interested in Overwatch or Korrasami, I post my works at https://archiveofourown.org/users/YurisMAJuice/pseuds/YurisMAJuice

There might be hope salvaging my SSF account. I’ll post any update on my Twitter @YurisMAJuice

Thank you again for your support and despite its lack of closur, I hope my writing has brought you some joy and entertainment.

Until next time,
M.A.
