Chapter 3
Share You My Love
Swamped with a full schedule, Hyukjae had forgotten all about Donghae for a week. Today, he’s going to see him again. They have a meeting this afternoon and then recording later in the evening.
But no, it’s not a big deal.
He was joking around with Siwon in the meeting room when he saw Donghae enter holding a lot of coffee again, with several folders tucked in his armpit. Siwon immediately rushed to help Donghae, and Hyukjae excused himself to go to the restroom. When Hyukjae came back, he stayed near the door to chat with Sungmin, one of the senior A&R staff they’ve been working with for a long time now.
When the attendees were finally complete, he sat down on his seat and the meeting began. Donghae presided again, and they listened to the final demo tracks for their album. They're all very satisfied with the songs, but there was one problem. They were originally set with their title track since last meeting. But one of the foreign songs that is now with Korean lyrics and rearranged amazingly sounds so good that it suddenly felt like a title track too. So now they're torn between two songs.
“I still think This Is Love fits our concept more, but Shirt now sounds so good and it would be really fun to perform on stage,” Siwon said.
Yesung hummed in agreement. “I already liked Shirt before, but now it’s suddenly really really good. Usually songs when changed to Korean lose their charm but now it’s even better.”
Sipping the Iced Vanilla Latte placed in front of him, Hyukjae voiced out his thoughts. “I’ve already imagined our This Is Love stages with the microphone stands, but listening to Shirt, I suddenly thought of cute but powerful choreographies as well.”
“And the rearranged higher notes and added adlibs in Shirt would sound so good with Yesung and me,” Kyuhyun piped up.
“Donghae said he imagined that too, that's why he added it,” Sungmin said.
“Donghae?” Yesung and Hyukjae asked at the same time.
“Yes, he was the one who rearranged this. Even the lyrics, he had a lot of hand in that too,” Sungmin confirmed.
Donghae looked bashfully proud, trying to straighten his face and avoiding eye contact with everyone who’s looking at him impressed.
Cute.
Donghae cleared his throat. “We’ve already moved forward with the preparations with This Is Love as title track though. If we make changes, your comeback may be delayed.”
“I really like Shirt though. It would be a waste to perform it at concerts only,” Kyuhyun insisted.
“I totally agree,” Siwon added.
Weighing the considerations, Hyukjae made a suggestion. “Hmm, how about we stick with This Is Love as the title track, but we perform both songs on music shows?”
Everyone looked at Hyukjae, considering his suggestion.
“We’ve never done that before. But I like that idea,” Kyuhyun agreed, and Siwon nodded his assent as well.
Yesung seems apprehensive though. “I imagine the sets would be different. The mood is drastically different as well. Can we pull that off?”
“Of course we can,” Hyukjae answered with confidence.
“I agree. Going from classy and y to fun and cute would be effortless for you,” Donghae said, looking at Hyukjae in agreement. “And I think your fans would enjoy seeing you longer on stage.”
“Well then it’s all set. We’d line up two performances for the music shows then,” Sungmin said.
“Okay, then choreography for Shirt as well. I already have a concept in mind,” Hyukjae added.
“Alright. We’ll include that in the meeting with the choreographer and you on the day after tomorrow.” Donghae nodded while noting it.
Sungmin snapped his head up, remembering something. “Oh, speaking of choreography. Donghae, you wanted to ask Hyukjae something about This is Love, right?
“Uhm, yeah.” Donghae looked at Hyukjae again and their eyes met for the first time that day. Donghae kept blinking. “Uh, I thought that for music shows, we can add an interlude for a dance break?”
“Oooh. A solo dance break for Hyuk?” Kyuhyun asked.
Donghae turned his eyes to Kyuhyun as if in
