The Gangster Who Loved Me - Chapter 7
The Gangster Who Loved MeWhilst the rest of the world was sleeping, a lone figure remained behind to clean up the mess which he had indirectly created. It was his fault that this had happened. He gathered up the pieces of broken wood from the stall and picked up all the fruit and vegetables that was scattered on the ground, most of which were too damaged to be of any use. He looked up at the dak sky above. It was going to rain soon. He had to try and finish this before then. He was so focused on fixing the broken stall until he heard footsteps approaching. He looked up and was surprised to see the figure standing there.
The hammering stopped the minute he approached the stall. Sunggyu stopped in his steps, surprised that he was not alone. He was not expecting anyone to be here at this time of the night and wondered what they were doing?
"Who's there?" Sunggyu asked.
Woohyun remained silent.
Sunggyu waited. Though no one answered, he felt the other person's presence and knew that they were still there but he wondered why they did not answer him. "Woohyun?" he said upon recognising the familiar scent.
Woohyun's eyes lit up, wondering how Sunggyu knew that it was him.
"Woohyun, if it's you, please say something," said Sunggyu.
Woohyun hesitated. He didn't want Sunggyu to know.
It wasn't until the heavens opened that Woohyun let his guard down. He immediately took off his leather jacket and held it over Sunggyu's head, shielding him from the rain. He didn't care that he, himself was drenched. All he cared about was Sunggyu. He didn't want the older man to get wet.
Sunggyu could still hear the rain yet none fell on his head. It took him a moment to realise that something was shielding him from the rain. He could feel the other person's presence right beside him. "Woohyun?" said Sunggyu, as if asking for confirmation.
There was a moment of silence. All they could hear was the sound of the rain.
"How did you know it was me?" Woohyun asked, finally giving in to his weakness.
Sunggyu smiled. "Your scent," he replied. "It's late. What are you doing here?"
"It's raining," said Woohyun, avoiding the question. "Let me take you home."
Before Sunggyu could protest, Woohyun pulled him onto the back of his motorcycle and placed his helmet over Sunggyu's head. He then took his jacket and forced Sunggyu to wear it, zipping it all the way up. Sunggyu was too stunned at being treated like a child that he obediently did as was told. Woohyun then sat in front and started the engine.
"Hold on tight," said Woohyun.
Sunggyu slowly reached out in front and placed his hands on either sides of Woohyun's waist, clinging onto his t-shirt which was soaked from the rain. Not impressed with Sunggyu's understanding of the definition of 'tight', Woohyun grabbed the older man's hands and wrapped them firmly around his waist. The engine roared down the street at full speed.
Before long, they arrived at Sunggyu's house just as the rain grew heavier. Sunggyu took off the helmet and jacket and handed them back to Woohyun. Even without seeing it, he could hear the heavy downpour. He could only imagine how soaked Woohyun was.
"Do you want to come inside?" Sunggyu asked.
Woohyun was taken aback by Sunggyu's words.
"At least, until the rain stops?" Sunggyu added.
"Inviting a stranger into your home, aren't you worried that I might be a bad person?" Woohyun asked.
Sunggyu smiled. "A bad person would never admit that they are a bad person," he replied. "Besides, you were trying to help me fix the stall, weren't you?"
Woohyun didn't answer him. "Please go inside," he said, almost pleadingly. "You're going to get sick."
"So are you," said Sunggyu.
Woohyun let out a deep sigh.
