The Gangster Who Loved Me - Chapter 21
The Gangster Who Loved MeAs Sunggyu lay unconscious on the bed, Myungsoo ed his shirt to check the wound on his chest. It was lucky that it was not a deep wound. His expression turned solemn when his eyes caught sight of an old scar below the wound, near the heart. He slowly ran his fingers over the scar as he recalled how it happened. He noticed that Sunggyu was wearing a silver chain with ID tags around his neck. One of the tags had Sunggyu's name, date of birth and blood type engraved on it. On the other tag was the letter A.
Myungsoo pulled his chain out from beneath his own shirt. He had the same ID tags with his own details engraved on it and the letter L. He smiled to himself and tucked the chain back in before tending to Sunggyu's wound.
Some time later Sunggyu awoke in a panic state. He tried to get up but was pushed back down.
"Where are you going?" Myungsoo asked.
"Where is Sungyeol?" Sunggyu asked worried for his friend.
"When I went back for him, a passerby had already called an ambulance," Myungsoo informed. "I assume he was taken to the hospital."
Sunggyu breathed a sigh of relief. At least Sungyeol was safe. "Myungsoo," he said softly then paused momentarily. "Who are you?"
Myungsoo frowned at Sunggyu's question. "Things have come to this already," he said. "How long are you going to keep this charade up? After everything I've done for you even turning against them to become a traitor like you."
It was Sunggyu's turn to frown in confusion. "I'm sorry. I don't understand what you're trying to say."
Angered by Sunggyu's words, Myungsoo grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and stared into his eyes, those sightless eyes. After a moment Myungsoo released his grip. "How did you lose your eye sight?" Myungsoo asked. "Did you lose your memory too?"
"It was an accident," Sunggyu replied. "When my parents found me by the river-"
"They're not your parents," Myungsoo interjected, almost angrily. "You're an orphan, like the rest of us."
Sunggyu was quiet, not knowing how to respond. From Myungsoo's tone of voice, he could tell that Myungsoo was angry. He did not want to say anything further to upset the man.
"Why are you like this?" Myungsoo asked. His tone seemed softer with a hint of sadness. "I don't like what you've become."
Sunggyu finally gave in. "What was I like?"
Myungsoo looked at Sunggyu in contemplation. Until now, he had chosen to believe that Sunggyu was hiding behind a facade to conceal his identity but perhaps he was wrong. Perhaps Sunggyu really did lose his memory.
"The Sunggyu I knew was a man who could easily take down hundreds of men," Myungsoo stated proudly. "His skills were swift and strong. He could kill someone in the blink of an eye. No enemy could ever escape. He was our leader." Myungsoo paused a moment. His eyes narrowed as he recalled memories from long ago. "Until that day when he decided to betray our trust. He killed those who had been with him through thick and thin. The whole team was wiped out. Ruthless and merciless."
Upon hearing Myungsoo's words, Sunggyu could understand Myungsoo's hatred. "What was the reason for the betrayal?" Sunggyu asked with much interest and curiosity.
Myungsoo looked at the face of the man who had done these acts yet asking as though it was someone else. "Money," Myungsoo replied. "We had a trap set up for our enemy, yet he colluded with them, allowed them to escape and killed his own members to hide his deeds."
Sunggyu could not believe that he was such a terrible person.
"By the time my team arrived, he was about to kill the only witness left so I did what I had to do," said Myungsoo, recalling the events of that fateful day. "Otherwise, he would have killed the Commander too."
Sunggyu was surprised when he heard those words. "Commander?" he asked in confusion. "What are you?"
"Special Forces."
