Bonus 4: Exes and Ows
Distant TormentWhether or not Baekhyun had realized it at first, It had become a normal occurrence for Baekhyun to get home from work to find Haeun nursing some kind of minor wound — whether it was from Kai scratching and biting her or a plain old paper cut. Before, he would always remember the time that the bond was still there, a connection between their injuries. Growing up, the paper cuts had become part of his life as though they were his own, but he was also sure that Haeun didn’t exactly share the same sentimental thoughts regarding the bond.
“What happened now?” he asked, taking his phone out of his pocket and setting it down on the bedside table before crawling over to where Haeun was sprawled out on their bed. She was laying in a starfish position, her injured finger up in the air above her face. Baekhyun also laid down on his back, taking a hold of her injured hand in one of his to look at the two small scratches that were no doubtedly caused by Kai’s fangs. The skin had just barely broken, but it was still fairly red and inflamed.
“Our cat likes to bite,” was all she provided, and Baekhyun failed to smother a snort, to which she hit him in the chest with the back of her hand.
“Why are you always trying to hurt me, woman?” he exclaimed, turning on his side to look down at her. She just smiled at him sweetly, and Baekhyun knew that he wasn’t going to particularly like whatever she was going to say.
“It’s all payback for the years of suffering I went through thanks to you, babe,” she responded, gently patting the area where she smacked him. Baekhyun caught a hold of the hand and laid on his back again, threading their hands together.
“I said I was sorry,” he responded, sounding petulant even to himself. “Besides, you gave me enough paper cuts for a lifetime.”
“You’re an !” she laughed, and Baekhyun turned to watch her roll her eyes at him. He grinned and shrugged. “The number of times I would be hobbling in class or just in pain from one bruise or another because you kept getting hurt was insane! But, oh no, paper cuts are the absolute worst,” she ended in a sarcastic tone.
“Love, I was training. Injuries are bound to happen.”
“I didn’t sign up to suffer with you through that. If I wanted to do that, then I would’ve joined the police academy too, and then we would’ve been suffering through twice the bruises.”
“I think your cat did plenty of the bruising, too,” Baekhyun pointed out, rolling over Haeun so he hovered over her as he braced himself up on his palms. “Do you know how many times I walked around with scratches on my forearms and people would think I would have some secret girlfriend?”
