Jennie's new job

Bae's 9

When Jisoo first met Jennie, years before, she wouldn’t have imagined how social skilled the girl was as all she did was pretty much stutter nice compliments to her as they danced along to the loud music in one of Seoul’s crowded clubs.

Their very first interaction had been weird since they were both very wasted and Jennie tipsily grabbed her hand and dragged her to a more silent spot away from the dancing floor which resulted in little conversation but a lot of action.

After some years together, she had realized that Jennie wasn’t not even close to a that messy girl she had met, but, instead, radiated confidence and oozed a weird passion about her very much illegal schemes that Jisoo had only recently found out about.

So, when her wife came in that day, happily waltzing her way to the kitchen, telling her that she had gotten a real job, without Jisoo’s help, in Vogue Korea as a chief coordinator when she had little to no experience in the fashion industry, Jisoo couldn’t help but let out a gasp.

Her gasp was easily replaced by Jennie’s happy kiss as they cheered to her new job, one that would play a vital aspect in the heist, and actually paid well. It felt unbelievable but, at same time, inevitable as Jennie had developed a burning passion for the fashion industry, specially after Jisoo became Rosé’s manager.

They spent almost half an hour talking about the job interview and how well Jennie did on it, considering that she became a nervous wreck at important crucial life moments.

Jennie told Jisoo about of the details, including how she spent at least a day choosing her outfit, because she wanted to impress Vogue’s manager and that seemingly worked, as the woman’s even complimented her shirt and told her she was probably overqualified for the position to which she just dismissed with a wave.

Vogue had been desperately reaching out to the candidates for that position as the MAMA Awards were going to be entirely covered by their magazine soon enough and when Jennie saw that opportunity, she took it.

“I just got back from the job interview and the lady already said I got the job.” Jennie told Irene over the phone soon after she finished explaining the whole thing to her wife. “I thought I wouldn’t get the position after I said gayla instead of gala.”

They could both hear Irene’s loud laughter on the phone and Jennie couldn’t help but feel a bit embarrassed because of that mistake. Jisoo would endless about it and, after that call, she knew Irene wouldn’t forget about that any time soon too.

“Well, congratulations anyway, you raging homoual.”

Jennie rolled her eyes, even though the leader couldn’t see it, but cracked a little smile when her eyes met Jisoo’s who was having way too much fun from that situation.

“Thanks, unnie. I’ll start tomorrow so wish me all the luck.”

Jennie was a nervous wreck, but, over the years, she had learned to not let that part of her show. She had mastered of faking it, of burying her uneasiness and anxiety so deep that she ended up forgetting about its existence in the first place which had been quite useful for numerous situations.

Even though she had spent a least half of her life doing illegal businesses, being at least somewhat brave to do so as the eminent fear of getting caught was always around, Jennie still felt nervous about very domestic, normal and less complicated things in life.

Jisoo was the only who could still sense when she got back to that clumsy, self-sabotaging state and that day was no exception as her wife drove them to a coffee shop near the Vogue building, so they could drink some tea before her first day at work.

“Here you go, green tea for you and an iced americano for me.” Jisoo said, while putting both cups on the small table before them.

“Thanks, baby.” Jennie said and smiled at her wife, giving Jisoo’s hand a little squeeze before she took a sip of her tea. “I really needed this.”

“I know.” Jisoo commented and decided to take a sip of her coffee. “And I still hate coffee but it helps me to keep myself awake while going over Chaeyoung’s schedule.”

“Is it that boring?”

“Oh. My. God. You have no idea!”

Jennie laughed at Jisoo’s cute little scrunched up nose while she continuously scrolled through Rosé’s appointments for the day. It was still quite early, but she knew her wife was a very organized manager that liked to know things beforehand and Jennie, as the lovestruck wife that she was, was very proud of Jisoo.

“Are you feeling better now?” Jisoo asked and Jennie nodded. “Good, because I think it’s time to go.”

When Jennie entered Vogue’s building for the first time as an employee, she was met by the same exact girl who had interviewed her the day before, a nice woman called Nayeon that seemingly had been waiting for her, holding a pile of documents.

They exchanged sympathetic smiles, a quick good morning and walked over to the elevator. Nayeon looked like she was waiting for the right moment to bombard Jennie with tasks and important information, but was also wondering if she should do so.

So when they got to the seventh floor, where both of them would work, Nayeon decided to finally break the silence, handing a list of tasks for Jennie to do and offering to help her if it was necessary before she gestured to Jennie’s brand new desk, in the middle of the room.

“It’s important that you get at least half of this duties done by the end of the week, but first, let me give you a little tour so that you can introduce yourself to our workmates.” Nayeon said, her playful tone easing some sort of tension Jennie was feeling. “Follow me.”

They walked over to another part of the room, where three young women were chatting about some new designs while drinking some tea with biscuits. Once Nayeon interrupted their conversation, they all turned to Jennie, who just bowed very slightly.

“Hey girls, this is Jennie, our new coordinator!” Nayeon said and Jennie could feel their stares at her. “Jennie, these three are the concept trio: Sana, Momo and Dahyun.”

“Hey, it’s very nice to meet you!” The purple-haired girl, Dahyun, said. “I promise you’ll gonna love working here!”

“Oh, thanks, it’s very nice to meet you all.” Jennie said, nervously smiling. “I love your jackets.”

The three women wore nice denim jackets with some embroidered words and pins on them, which were very creative and luxurious, something Jennie had never seen in any store, but looked like had just come out of a runaway fashion event.

“Thanks, I designed it myself.” Momo said, while she narrowed her eyes at Jennie. “I heard only good things about you, so I hope we can work together!”

“Oh, for sure!”

“Don’t worry about her.” Sana said, while pushing Momo away. “She wants to be intimidating but she is actually a fluffy little kid inside.”

Momo just pouted and Sana stole a biscuit from her while Dahyun just observed their dynamic. The trio seemed quite nice, which was a very positive thing, considering she would be working with them for a while.

“C’mon, Jennie! Let’s continue our tour!”

Nayeon was very excited about having a coordinator again, so much so that they ended up going from floor to floor so that she could actually show Jennie every inch of that building, which took the whole morning.

Jennie couldn’t help but notice that, after they ended the tour, in a corner close to her desk, there was a huge whiteboard with many post-it notes that mapped the MAMA awards seating plan, hanging inside a room with glass doors.

She quickly excused herself, saying that she needed to use the bathroom, only so that she could go take a closer look at the board, and discreetly take a picture of it using her phone.

When Jennie went back to her desk, Nayeon was nowhere to be seen, but she left a note stating that it was time for her lunch break but that she would be back to help her get her stuff started.

So, with that excuse, Jennie quickly sent a text message with the attached seating plan picture to Irene and decided to call Jisoo, so that she could fill her wife in the morning events and, eventually for time could go faster until Nayeon got back.

Upon receiving the picture, Irene decided to call Wendy, who within two rings, picked up her phone, excusing herself to her colleagues so that she could go talk to the leader, in the back of the restaurant.

“What’s so urgent that you couldn’t wait more thirty minutes to tell me?” Wendy teased. “I’m still working, you know.”

“Don’t act like you didn’t want to hear my voice.” Irene retorted and Wendy laughed. “Plus, it’s new crucial information that I have to tell you.”

“Hm, I’m all ears.”

“Jennie sent me a picture of the seating plan for the MAMA awards.”

“Oh, wow! How did she get that?”

“She’s working at Vogue now.”

Even though Irene couldn’t see it, Wendy slowly nodded. Of course Jennie would have a job at Vogue, that was, all in all, something she could see the woman doing and it was also a genius idea.

If that had happened two weeks before, Wendy would even want to hear anything related to Jennie, as she felt a weird jealousy of her. But, as she had sorted everything out, she could help but be proud of that accomplishment.

Despite her initial awkward reaction to Jennie’s participation in the heist, Wendy actually had grown to like her over the meetings and felt happy for her new friend to have a nice job.

“New meeting today at seven?” Wendy asked and Irene giggled. “What?”

“Nothing. Be ready in twenty, I’ll pick you up.”

“Please don’t come looking like a model, I’m tired of my nosy workmates asking who you are and if I can get them your number!”

“I won’t make any promises. Bye, honey!”

When the clock struck seven hours at night, the team was already gathered in Wendy’s place again. They all sat in their usual places, eating some popcorn Wendy had prepared while they waited for Irene’s instructions.

Lisa was chatting with Jennie, both of them gushing about some fashion related things and Jisoo proudly observed her wife talking while Wendy and Yeri tried to squeeze out some information about Seulgi’s date with Joy from the poor artistic bear, Seulgi, who just gave some evasive answers to their questions.

Joy, who was busy putting up Irene’s presentation on the tv, didn’t even listen to their conversations as she was too focused on her task. Only after she connected her laptop to the tv, showing Jennie’s photo of the seating plan for the MAMA awards on the big screen, Irene decided to finally begin the meeting.

“As you may know, Jennie’s got a new job.”

“Congrats, unnie!” Lisa cheered and they all somehow congratulated her.

“And thanks to that we got some exclusive inside information about their seating plan for the event.”

The picture was displayed on the screen and it had over a hundred names of the very exclusive guest list of artists from all over the world who would be attending the awards in the VIP section and Rosé was definitely a part of it.

“This is unbelievable!” Seulgi gasped.

“Is that really Ariana? Like the Ariana Grande?” Yeri asked.

“There’s only one Ariana.” Lisa said, just as surprised as Yeri. “That’s amazing!”

“Can’t we just go to this? Do we really have to steal stuff?” Seulgi questioned.

“Yes.” Wendy answered. “It’s two billion wons that we’re talking about.”

“Well, I would be attending this anyway. Except that I was going to be in the background, monitoring Rosé.” Jisoo nonchalantly said, to which they all just nodded. “It’s nice to have some plot twist.”

“Where is Rosé?” Irene asked Jennie and Jisoo.

“Table 10, close to the bathroom and in the shortest path to go backstage.” Jennie said while pointing to the exact location so that Joy could zoom it in. “A rather strategic place.”

“There’s a blank spot next to her.” Wendy observed.

“It’s for a date.” Jisoo explained.

“And who’s the date?” Wendy inquired.

“I don’t know.” Irene answered and soon enough their meeting was over.

The girls needed a way to get in the event with no suspicions and that was all that Wendy could think about later that night. Apart from Lisa, Jisoo and Jennie, who would already be there as they would both be working at the event, the others needed to figure out a way in.

Irene didn’t have that part figured out yet, which was the only thing she hadn’t planned. She thought about them disguising themselves as other people but deep down Wendy knew that idea wasn’t the most ideal one, as it was very unpractical for five people to do that unnoticed.

After chatting about the event with Jennie, via text messages, Wendy had an idea, a quite brilliant one that popped up in her mind while she was doing the laundry and accidentally stained her work uniform with soap: she would find out a way to work at the event as well.

She decided to call Jennie, who despite the initial surprise, picked up the call.

“Is there something that the event planners haven’t done yet?” Wendy asked.

“Hm, I heard them talking about the buffet or something like that. I think they have yet to decide which company or nutritionist will be responsible for that.”

“Perfect. How about you suggest them my services?”

“Your services?” Jennie was confused. “Aren’t you a waitress?”

“I could be a nutritionist if I need to, plus the other girls can be employees as well, my sub chefs or something.”

“You know what? That’s actually a great idea.”

“Thanks”

“I’ll see what I can do.”
