The Clock's FootstepsI was sitting next to Rachel, watching her as her chest moved up and down in sync with her breaths. The silent yet audible breathing whispered throughout the section of the room. I didn’t know what to think or what to do, all I knew was that this woman was most likely my long lost mother. I always thought that if this day were ever to come, I would know all of my life’s questions answers; yet I sat in this room, still empty.
“You’re going to drill holes in her face if you keep it up,” Bobby whispered.
I didn’t even jump. I felt like all my energy was out from the “exciting” announcements I had received throughout the day. I looked at Bobby and gave him a small smile.
“What’s wrong?” Bobby asked, as he sat down next to me.
Before I could answer, Brian, Sabrina, and an old doctor walked into the room. The doctor was so short, he looked like a midget. His leathery skin was dark but his smile was serious yet bright in some weird sort of way.
“Congratulations, my dear,” the short doctor said in a cheerful yet quiet voice. “It’s confirmed, you are the daughter of Rachel Lee.”
“Congratulations, Stella, you’re finally home!” Sabrina clapped, unable to contain her excitement.
In some movies, you would probably see the character jump for joy and cry happily to find her long lost family. I, however, didn’t feel any joy. My face showed the emotionless emptiness felt in my heart. I couldn’t remember anything other than snippets here and there. I don’t even know the woman who had been asleep this entire time; I haven’t heard her voice or even seen her open eyes.
I took one more glance at Rachel and let out a sigh. I stood up, making the aura extremely awkward. After a difficult bow, I walked out of the room. My phone rang and I quickly answered, trying to bring myself back down from the surreal setting. I wan
