Eighteen
The Clock's FootstepsDerik Jung was rolling his shopping cart at the local Safeway. The tall emotionless man had an intimidating aura that made some women swoon, but many feared. He looked up and down the aisle, trying to find the mayonnaise. The day continued on like it had for the past fifteen years, but it was cut short after Derik had an inkling of someone watching him.
Derik continued his way as he looked for the invisible mayonnaise. As he stopped in front of the instant mashed potatoes, he saw at the corner of his eye a beautiful woman who he noticed a couple times before.
She looks kind of familiar…, Derik thought to himself.

Derik was in a state of panic. He patiently yet anxiously waited in the luxurious office. He could feel his palms sweat. His nervous thoughts were broken by the vice president.
“Derik, what’s going on?”
“Brian,” Derik huffed. “There’s this woman who’s following me the last two days. So obviously, I checked her out… Her name is Sabrina Yoo. She’s a P.I for hire and a really good friend of Rachel Lee and Daniel Yoon… ring a bell?”
Brian could feel his heart jump ever so slightly. Even so, he kept his composure, “Yeah, I remember seeing her around sometimes. Why would she be following you?”
“Are you really asking that?” Derik glared. “I think she’s onto us.”
“Why would she be coming for us now?” Brian continued with his composed stance. “After fifteen years? The case went cold; unsolved. That’s it.”

“Why is that stupid assistant making me give this? Like HELLO, I’m not the intern anymore,” I scoffed, holding a thick envelope of an overview. “James seriously just hates me… that’s the only logical explanation.”
I knocked on the door of Brian’s office. After a good pause, Brian called me in. I stepped into the room to find Brian with a tall man with just a black T-shirt and ripped jeans. The man’s long-ish short hair was messily tossed, which was an obvious result of not brushing his hair after waking up that morning. He had an olive skin tone and nicely toned facial features. He wasn’t extremely handsome though; just average.
“Um…,” I finally spoke, bringing myself back down to earth. “Mr. Jun wanted me to give you these.”
“Well thank you,” Brian smiled. “You can place those right on my desk.”
I nodded and walked over to Brian’s desk. As I did, I could feel the hot puncturing stare from the tall man. I became unknowingly extremely uncomfortable, and I could feel my heart thumping. As I started to leave for the door and looked up at the man one last time. The sun was shining brightly beside Brian and the tall man, and that was when I felt an extreme quake down my spine.
I know this man from somewhere… but where?

“Why does she look so familiar?” Derik finally asked after HyunA left the room.
