Epilogue - Serendipity
SerendipityDaehyun hadn't been searching for anything specific the first time he had crossed the borders to the Winter woods. It had been his mere curiosity that made him walk over and step his foot in the snow for the first time. Snow had been foreign and cold, the winter woods were covered in a thick layer of white and sparkling snow. Never Daehyun would have thought that this sight would once become so familiar and even fill his heart with a special kind of warmth.
He set his foot on the frozen lake, grasping Youngjae's hands as if his life depended on them. One step, another step, carefully and with shaky legs. At the third step, he slipped and fell flat on his . Youngjae laughed loudly and wiped his tears, completely disregarding Daehyun who was rubbing his sore bottom. But he couldn't be mad at the Winter fairy, not when his cheeks were painted in such a beautiful pink and not if this situation held such a wonderful memory.
Eventually, Youngjae heaved the helpless Summer fairy back on his feet and cleaned his pants from the snow gently. No matter how many times Daehyun tried, he just wasn't made for ice-skating but no matter how many times Youngjae asked to try again, with his bright blue eyes and rosy cheeks, Daehyun couldn't say no.
And although Daehyun wasn't blessed with the best balance, he loved the Winter. He loved sliding down hills in the snow, he loved snowball fights and snow angels and he loved the way everything sparkled. Not for a split second Daehyun had the feeling that he had lost anything after leaving the Summer glade. It was the opposite rather, he had gained so much. He had found many new friends, he was living together with Jongup AND Youngjae by his side, not to forget Himchan, Yongguk and Junhong who he had enclosed in his heart just as much.
But apart from this, he was allowed to experience the magic of every season. He could see the beautiful sparkle of snowflakes, he could see fresh blossoms sprouting between the melting snow. He could see everything in full bloom and smell the wonderful scent of flowers and fruits and he was also able to see the island preparing for the cold times, when trees started to shake off their leaves and animals prepared for hibernation. Daehyun felt blessed through and through and he knew that Youngjae felt the same. Youngjae had even overcome his fear of animals and whenever he visited the nursery, he was the number one object of affection of all animals - which made Daehyun just a little bit jealous.
Youngjae took Daehyun's hand between his palms and placed a soft kiss on Daehyun's knuckles. Daehyun's pain was already forgotten at the look of Youngjae's twinkling eyes. Before Daehyun knew, he joined Youngjae's chuckles and their giggles turned into grown out laughter.
Together, they laughed today and they will also laugh the next day. Like this they would live their life, awaiting new memories and adventure to cross their way. Daehyun had learned that he didn't need to search anything to find something wonderful. The most beautiful things would just come to him by chance, just like Youngjae.

Himchan should have never agreed to come to the top of the mountains. Jongup had begged him for company because he was sure he could capture even stronger rays of light so high up. Himchan could never say no to Jongup so he went with him although he didn't think it was a good idea. Even though it was a mild Autumn, the air was thin up there and the wind was strong and harsh, even for him as a Winter fairy. But hand in hand, they kept going, slowly, little by little.
Eventually they had even ground under their feet and after the mist and snow had cleared up a little, they found themselves on a platform with a few pine trees and to their surprise, a lake. They stepped closer, the water was bright blue and the surface was so crystal clear that they could see their reflection on it. The sun was just starting to set and there was still a long way to go, there was no chance that they would make it to the top of the mountain. But maybe this spot here was good enough.
They sat side by side in front of t
