Hide and Seek
SerendipityThe golden sun stood brightly on the azure sky, bathing everything underneath it in a comfortable warmth. Birds chirped happily, bees were buzzing in a soothing rhythm and all flowers stretched their faces towards the sun. Barely any place could escape the bright light, the only place covered in shadow was very deep in the woods, so deep that rarely any fairy went there, they were summer fairies after all.
But every now and then, a little group of fairies would find their way into the depths of the tall trees, using the thick crowns of the trees and the uncontrolled growth on the ground as their playground. Daehyun liked this place, he knew every branch as if they were his home.
He had planned everything carefully, brought 6 little baskets full with sparkling golden arrows made of pixie dust and 6 golden bows, ready for him and his friends to play. It was the first time the fairies from the other seasons were at the summer glade and he thought that especially for the winter fairies, it would be the best to take little steps instead of being exposed to the direct sunlight on their first stay.
Daehyun was crouching on a thick branch high up in the air, bow and arrow clutched tightly in both of his hands. His ears picked up every rustle of leaves, every flutter of wings and every footstep on the ground. He was an animal fairy and his sense of hearing was naturally higher, maybe that was why he was so good at this game.
The rules were simple, hide and seek, try to shoot the others before they shoot you and whoever gets shot is out. Of course the pixie dust arrows didn't hurt, they would puff into a cloud of golden glitter immediately once they hit someone. Until now, Daehyun had never lost this game.
It was very easy to spot where everyone was. Jongup had the disadvantage of being a light fairy and therefore having a natural glow that stood out even more in the rather dark area. Same went for Junhong who left a trail of golden and green pixie dust where ever he went. Himchan and Youngjae were missing the agility the others had, their wings were stiff and crystal usually and both of them moved rather clumsily through the thicket. The most difficult to pick up on was Yongguk, he had a gracile way of moving and that was the reason Daehyun had decided to catch him first, he was the biggest threat to him after all.
Apart from him and Jongup, no one has ever played this game but everyone had been eager and curious. Daehyun's breath was even as he looked around with sharp eyes. He thought about who he wanted to take out first, which order would guarantee his win. One thing was sure, he would go for Youngjae last because he had a soft spot on the pretty snow fairy. So unless someone else would find Youngjae before he did, it would be the two of them who were the last player to be in the game.
Knowing Jongup, the light fairy would most likely try to chase after Yongguk first so Daehyun decided to search for Himchan. Daehyun had heard footsteps a few moments ago and he was quite sure these did not belong to Youngjae. Youngjae's footsteps were as light as a feather, cautious and as quiet as the falling snow.
Daehyun jumped briskly from branch to branch, carefully monitoring the noises around him. He only stopped when he was so far out that he was sure, no one else was close to him. From there, he held his sharp eyes open in search for Himchan. Himchan would try to stay on the trees if Daehyun judged him correctly, so he only needed to wait for the heaviest steps to approach.
