Glow
SerendipityThe world of fairies is full of magic. Every fairy in each of the four lands held a special magic in their hearts that made them unique and made this well balanced living together possible. It was important that all these different kinds existed, everyone was needed in their own way.
But there was one kind of magic that was rather unknown – the magic of love. Love was the most wonderful feeling of all, it made the power of a fairy grow. If a fairy truly loved someone, their wings would glow just a little bit brighter and it would make their magic a little bit stronger.
Daehyun had always thought that Youngjae's wings sparkled beautifully, especially if the sun of the winter woods shone on them, the light broke in his wings and spread on every surface, letting little diamonds dance on them. Daehyun was sure that if he put his face close enough to the snow fairy's wings, he would be able to see his reflection in them.
He had noticed the increasing glow of them but shrugged it off as his growing fondness of the other. It was only when his friends from the summer lawn had started to comment on his own changing appearance when he gave it a deeper thought.
His wings were of a warm golden colour that even outshone Jongup's typical light fairy wings recently. Where ever he flew, other fairies turned their heads to look after him and he was sure that even the flowers on the field opened their blossoms a little bit wider to bathe in his light as well.
Daehyun was chewing on the golden flesh of a sweet mango when Mother Sol, the highest ranked fairy of the summer lawn pat his shoulder gently to motion for him to follow her. For a moment he got nervous and let his mind wander over the possible things he could have done to gain her disapproval but apart from his not quite allowed adventures into the other areas he couldn't think about anything. He had never neglected his work or anything else.
He followed Mother Sol to the large oak tree and they flew in, entering the large hall inside through a generous gap in the tree bark. Mother Sol had a gentle smile on her face as she made a gesture with her hand to tell Daehyun without any words to sit down on one of the stumps.
Nervously, he rubbed his palms together as he sat down, waiting for her to speak.
“Who is it?” she finally asked.
“Huh?” Daehyun asked. He was confused, what did she mean?
“Your glow,” she said and with these words, Daehyun's throat suddenly felt very dry.
