--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The sky must have felt sad to the point of wanting to shut out the rest of the world, almost as if it had been abandoned or had its heart broken. It was snowing once more, but it wasn’t a harsh and windy snowstorm that chilled a person down to the bone. It was more like the sky must have felt some sort of hope as the snowflakes drifted gently down to the ground, delicately caressing the surface of whatever it came into contact with. It felt like the sky was indirectly calling out for reassurance.

Slowly, the car came to a stop as the traffic light changed from yellow to red. Almost like clockwork, the pedestrians soon began crossing the street to get to their intended destinations. Looking at each and every person, not a single person was entirely similar to another. It was always nice to see the differences that every person is capable of using in order to display their individuality.

Within the car, music was playing at a low volume, allowing the individuals inside to either lose themselves in a conversation between one another or to lose themselves in their thoughts. The one sitting in the passenger’s seat was currently resting, his eyes closed as he tried to keep his mind off of the world around him. The one in the driver’s seat, however, had quite a number of things on his mind.

Daehyun tried to listen peacefully to the music, his fingers tapping along with the beat of the song as he nodded his head a bit. He had his left elbow on the door, pressed up against the window as he had his cheek and jawbone resting in the palm of his hand. Despite looking quite content with the music, he kept glancing over at Young Jae.

He knew that Young Jae was going to be mad at him for this, but it had to be done. They needed to make certain that the constant headaches and black outs were not going to end up turning out to be life threatening. Daehyun knew how much Young Jae hated hospitals, but he had to make sure. It may be selfish of Daehyun to go against Young Jae’s wishes, but.. he didn’t want Young Jae to suffer anymore.

Carefully, he had the car move forward as the light turned green once more. His eyes glanced over at Young Jae, a small sigh escaping his lips as he turned his attention back to the street. Their everyday schedule normally had them heading to work now, but that wasn’t going to be happening today. Daehyun had called their respective jobs ahead of time in order to get the day off for this one appointment. He knew that Young Jae wasn’t going to like it, especially since they were tight on money at the moment, but what’s done is done. It was too late to back out now.

Whatever Young Jae had planned for him, Daehyun would gladly accept the consequences. As long as Young Jae ended up being healthy, then he could at least have some sort of peace of mind. Maybe it would help Young Jae feel calmer about himself as well if he learned that he was completely healthy too.

Well, hopefully Young Jae would feel calmer. Daehyun didn’t know what was going on in Young Jae’s head, so he wasn’t entirely sure if Young Jae was even worrying about what was happening. He could only assume, but he was sure enough that Young Jae actually was worrying about it.

Daehyun stiffened a bit when he saw Young Jae moving from the corner of his eye. He could hear Young Jae take in a deep breath, most likely stretching, before settling down. Should he look his way? If Young Jae didn’t realize where they were going, then he might end up giving it away that they weren’t heading to work. So.. maybe it would be best just to talk. “How are you feeling?” (DH)

“Fine..” (YJ) Young Jae looked over at Daehyun as he reached over and placed his hand on Daehyun’s thigh. He gave Daehyun’s thigh a light squeeze before turning his attention outside. Yet another day of work and yet, they weren’t progressing as much as they had a few months ago. They were at a standstill yet again and it was getting quite frustrating. Still, he wasn’t going to give up yet. This was simply just an obstacle that needs to be taken down.

With a small sigh, he looked around a bit before narrowing his eyes. Wait a minute... This route wasn’t the correct one that brought them to work. Unless Daehyun was planning to take a longer route than usual, this route led to.. “Daehyun, what do you think you’re doing?” (YJ)

Young Jae could feel Daehyun’s thigh stiffen in his grasp, which gave away Daehyun’s intentions almost instantly. Squeezing Daehyun’s thigh, Young Jae turned to look at Daehyun as he slightly tilted his head. “This isn’t the way to work.” (YJ)

“I.. uh... What makes you say that..?” (DH) Young Jae leaned in close, causing Daehyun to briefly turn his way to see the unamused look on Young Jae’s face. He tried to think of an excuse, any excuse, to get himself out of this situation. Daehyun could practically feel Young Jae’s gaze practically piercing through him and it wasn’t exactly the greatest feeling.

“Tell. Me. Now.” (YJ) Swallowing the lump in his throat, Daehyun opened his mouth to say something, but quickly shut it. What was he supposed to say?! Just.. keep it a secret. Yea, that was the best option for the time being. Well, it was his only option. Any other locations that were mentioned and Young Jae would most likely know that he was lying.

“Uh... It’s a secret. You’ll see when we get there, alright?” (DH) Daehyun briefly turned to look at Young Jae, giving him the best smile that he could produce, before turning back to the road. Young Jae suspiciously eyed Daehyun for a moment before leaning back into his seat. He did keep his hand on Daehyun’s thigh though. Young Jae, although completely impossible with his strength, planned to squeeze the life out of Daehyun's thigh if it turned out that Daehyun was bringing them somewhere that wasn’t exactly pleasing.

“You had better hope that our destination is a pleasurable one...” (YJ) Well, it was pleasurable to some people. Did that count? Probably not, but Daehyun had already learned to accept the consequences that were going to be thrown at him. At least Young Jae wasn’t going to continue asking him where they were going. It definitely would have been difficult to continue avoiding the question. “Did you already call work?” (YJ)

“Hm?” (DH) Daehyun briefly glanced over at Young Jae as he thought on Young Jae’s words for a moment. “Ah.. yeah. I already called ahead of time to get the day off today, though.. Himchan asked me to get him a rabbit in exchange.” (DH)

Young Jae sighed as he pinched the bridge of his nose. That Himchan.. He never did understand Himchan’s fascination with rabbits. They were small, hairy, and relatively useless. Sure, they could be used as a small meal, but that was basically all they seemed to be good for. Although.. they could be used to distract a small child while a certain child’s parents were having some.. alone time.

Now that he thought about it, would his children want some rabbits?

He pushed those thoughts off to the side as he finally pulled his hand away from Daehyun’s thigh. When the time came, that’s when Young Jae would even consider getting his children a pet. Until then, there would be no point to thinking about it for the time being.

The most important thing to be thinking about was where they were currently going to. Why was Daehyun trying so hard to keep it a secret? It would be rather... enjoyable if they were going on a date. No, it’s not like he missed going on dates with Daehyun or anything! It was just, as the saying goes, a breath of fresh air. After all, they’ve been working quite a lot lately and Young Jae was rather certain that they had earned a sort of.. minor break from it all.

It really didn’t seem like that would be the case though. Work was far too important to skip just for a date. Dates can be held off for their days off, which were on the weekends anyway. Still, if that wasn’t the reason behind this sudden outing, then what exactly was the reason behind it? Young Jae just couldn’t put a finger on it and it was somewhat bothering him.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“I am NOT leaving this vehicle! What made you think that it was even remotely acceptable to schedule an appointment without my consent?!” (YJ) Young Jae’s worst fears were growing once he had realized how close they were getting to the hospital. He had hoped that the entity above wasn’t going to be playing some sort of twisted trick on him, but it only seemed like that entity was a sadist of some sort. The second Daehyun had turned the car into the parking garage, Young Jae knew that Daehyun had done the unspoken.

“Come on, Young Jae.. You know that this needs to be done.” (DH)

“No, it does NOT need to be done! It is completely and entirely unnecessary! Do you even think those doctors got their degrees on their own?! They probably stole answers off of one another!” (YJ) Daehyun sighed as he rubbed his left temple. He was oddly losing his patience, but this needed to be done. He was just glad that they were about half an hour early for their appointment or they’d most likely end up late by the time Daehyun got Young Jae out of the car.

“Young Jae... we’re going inside.” (DH) Young Jae merely glared at Daehyun before turning away and folding his arms. What made Daehyun think that he was going to step out of this car? Clearly, they had not been together long enough for Daehyun to know him well enough. If that had not been the case, then they wouldn’t even be here having this discussion.

He ruffled the back of his head out of frustration before opening the car door. Stepping out of the car, Daehyun closed the door before making his way over to the front passenger side door. Opening the door, to which he was glad that Young Jae hadn’t bothered attempting to lock or hold onto, Daehyun crouched down by Young Jae’s side as he looked up at him. “Young Jae.. We are going.” (DH)

“No. What makes you think I’m going to go with you?” (YJ) Daehyun folded his hands as he looked up at Young Jae with a serious look on his face. Young Jae felt a bit unnerved by it, considering he only ever saw a happy smile or a worried look on Daehyun’s face, but he wasn’t about to budge.

When it was clear that Young Jae wasn’t going to move, Daehyun stood back up as he bent over forward and began reaching for Young Jae’s buckle. What took Daehyun by surprise was when Young Jae began slapping him all of a sudden, specifically his hands. “Don’t you DARE unbuckle my seat belt! I said that I’m NOT going!” (YJ)

Despite the many slaps and pushing that Daehyun had to endure, he somehow managed to unbuckle the seat belt. With the only form of defense now gone, Daehyun pulled himself out of the car as he looked down at an angry looking Young Jae. “Out.” (DH)

“I told you that I’m not going! Why can’t you seem to understand something as simple as that?! It isn’t all that difficult t- Let go of me!” (YJ) Young Jae’s free hand quickly grabbed hold of the seat as Daehyun began pulling on his right arm. He had not expected Daehyun to be this forceful, but he wasn’t going to give in all that easily. It was completely absurd that Daehyun was trying to use force to get his way! Okay, so it was completely unexpected and a bit of a turn on, bu- WAIT! There was no way in hell that it was a turn on! What the heck was he thinking?! He didn't even have time to think of these completely tainted thoughts at the moment! “LET GO ALREADY!” (YJ)

“Not until you get checked out!” (DH) Daehyun was actually pretty surprised by how much strength Young Jae had. Still, he wasn’t about to give up when he had already managed to get Young Jae to the hospital’s parking garage. That, itself, was an accomplishment alone! Okay, sure, Young Jae came to the hospital multiple times for the surrogacy, but that was because it was something he wanted to do.

“LET GO! I’M NOT GOING!” (YJ) Somehow, Young Jae had managed to slip his hand out of Daehyun’s grasp, allowing him to use both hands to grab onto the seat. When Daehyun came in close once more, Young Jae turned and used his feet in an attempt to kick Daehyun away.

Sadly, Daehyun had grabbed onto Young Jae’s feet and once he had a firm grasp on Young Jae’s legs, he began pulling. Young Jae let out a small grunt and whined a bit as he felt himself being lifted out of the seat. He probably would be completely out of the car by now if it wasn’t for the fact that he was practically holding onto the car seat for dear life.

“You brutish, incompetent, ignoramus! Release me at once or you’ll feel my vengeance upon you in the coming time!” (YJ) He was throwing around hollow threats at this point, but he had to try something. Young Jae REALLY didn’t want to go in for a check up and he really wished that Daehyun would realize that hospitals were not exactly for everyone.

Young Jae shut his eyes tightly as he felt his fingers beginning to slip. His ankles were hurting from Daehyun’s death grip and he knew at the rate that they were going, he was going to be the one to slip. With one last attempt at escape, Young Jae began wiggling as much as possible in order to get Daehyun to slip up. His feet went from one place to the other as he turned his body here and there. It may have looked silly, but he didn’t remotely care at this point. If this was the only way that he can liberate himself from Daehyun’s torturous plans, then so be it. “Cease your actions this instant, Daehyun!” (YJ)

Looking down, he held his breath as he felt Daehyun move up his body bit by bit. Before they knew it, Daehyun had his arms around Young Jae’s waist and holding onto him a lot tighter than before. With one last ditch attempt, Daehyun pulled with all of his might before Young Jae’s hands finally slipped.

He quickly caught his balance after taking a few steps back, his arms holding onto Young Jae tightly to make sure that he didn’t end up falling to the ground. With a small sigh, Daehyun closed the car door with his foot before turning and walking towards the hospital. “Young Jae.. We’re going.” (DH)

“PUT ME DOWN THIS INSTANT!” (YJ) Young Jae flailed all over the place, which was loosening Daehyun’s grip. With a small sigh, Daehyun set Young Jae carefully onto his feet. He would have left Young Jae alone, but the second Young Jae began attempting to run, Daehyun quickly tackled Young Jae more out of reflex than anything. Hearing Young Jae’s yelp mixed in with a pained grunt, Daehyun quickly wrapped his arms around Young Jae as he protected him as best as they could before colliding with the ground.

After a moment or two had been spent recovering, Young Jae finally opened his eyes as he let out a soft groan. He could feel Daehyun’s arms slipping out from underneath him as they slowly set him down onto the ground. He looked up once Daehyun pushed himself up a bit. The second they made eye contact with one another, Young Jae’s eyes widened slightly as he saw the serious glint in Daehyun’s eyes. “You’re going to that appointment. Understand?” (DH)

Young Jae looked away a bit as he furrowed his eyebrows and folded his arms. Why was Daehyun so bent on sending him to this appointment? There was no importance to it and it’s not like he was dying. He was completely healthy, so this was a waste of time and possibly money! Of course... out of all this, Young Jae couldn’t help but notice just how forceful Daehyun can be. It was... quite a turn on.

No, it was NOT a turn on! Why was he constantly thinking such ridiculous thoughts?! Shaking his head a bit, he finally let out a small sigh before looking back up at Daehyun. He furrowed his eyebrows a bit more as he stared back at Daehyun for a few more seconds. “Fine. I’ll go, but you had best have some sort of way to compensate me for today..” (YJ)

Instantly, Daehyun’s serious look was replaced with a bright grin as Daehyun nodded and quickly got to his feet. He held out his hand, to which Young Jae reluctantly took hold of, before pulling Young Jae up to his feet. Both males dusted themselves off before Daehyun quickly wrapped his arms tightly around Young Jae. “Thanks Young Jae... Don’t worry. I’ll make it up to you.” (DH)

“You better..” (YJ) Young Jae mumbled as he wrapped his arms around Daehyun’s waist. He already had quite a number of ways that Daehyun could make it up to him, but he preferred to let Daehyun figure it out on his own.

After a few more seconds has passed, the two finally pulled away from one another. With the car locked, the two interlocked their fingers together as they began walking towards the hospital building. Young Jae couldn’t help but raise a single brow whenever he looked over at Daehyun. Daehyun just seemed to be beaming with happiness as his grin refused to leave his face. Was it that much of a joyous occasion to be going to the hospital?

Once inside, they made sure to check in at the receptionist desk before sitting over in the waiting area. Young Jae impatiently tapped his foot on the ground as he folded his arms. They had just gotten here and already he wanted to leave. He really disliked hospitals and being here was making him nervous. Nervous? Since when did he ever get nervous! No, there was no way that he was nervous. It was more like... there were things that he could be doing at this very moment and time was being wasted just being here. “I don’t see the need behind this appointment.” (YJ)

“I just want to be sure. We need to make sure that you really are healthy.” (DH)

“I AM healthy. I have been keeping up with my schedule and watching myself. I know exactly how my body is as opposed to some doctor, who knows little to nothing about me.” (YJ) Daehyun let out a small sigh as he looked off to the side. No matter what Young Jae said, this appointment had to happen sooner or later. He didn’t like constantly worrying about Young Jae’s health and he wished Young Jae was a little more concerned about it as well.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“That was a complete waste of time.” (YJ) Young Jae closed the car door as he put his seat belt on. Daehyun should have been able to rest easier now, but.. it was a bit difficult to do so. Sure, Young Jae had passed the tests and although some of the results won’t be coming in until next week, the doctor had stated that Young Jae was healthy. So why was it that Young Jae was having those headaches and passing out like that? “We have to go pick up Jongup now.” (YJ)

“Yeah.. I know.” (DH) Turning the key in the ignition, the car quickly sparked to life. They sat there for a moment, letting the car heat up. After a few minutes or so had passed, they were soon on their way.

Once out of the parking garage, Young Jae rested his head against the window once more as he watched the snow gently falling. Although he did not necessarily have a huge fascination with snow, it was admittedly.. a bit calming to watch it gracefully fall towards the ground. He was, secretly, glad to know that he was healthy, but that also meant that it definitely was related to the time reversal device. That meant that both him and Himchan were the only ones capable of figuring out the cause behind all of this and even then, he had yet to reveal any of this information to Himchan.

While Young Jae was lost in thought, Daehyun glanced over at Young Jae every now and then. To him, Young Jae looked quite calm and Daehyun quite liked seeing him in such a state. With a small smile, Daehyun reached over as he placed his hand over Young Jae’s.

His concentration was quickly broken upon feeling the warmth radiate from Daehyun’s hand and onto his. Looking down, Young Jae stared at their hands for a moment before looking up at Daehyun. Upon seeing his warm smile, Young Jae couldn’t help but smile a bit as he used his thumb to lightly rub Daehyun’s thumb. Seeing and feeling the warmth radiate from Daehyun, it made Young Jae feel bad. After all, Daehyun was just worried about his well being and although he didn’t want to admit it, he shouldn’t have gotten mad at Daehyun for it. “Daehyun.. I.. apologize for my behavior. I shouldn’t have acted the way I did. After all.. you were only worried about my well-being and... as much as I do not want to admit it, I would have acted in a similar manner if you were in the same state.” (YJ)

Daehyun’s smile grew a little upon hearing Young Jae’s apology. He hadn’t expected Young Jae to apologize at all, especially since he hadn’t even said a word to Young Jae about the appointment. “I’m sorry too.. I shouldn’t really have forced you into going somewhere you didn’t want to go to.. I’m also sorry for tackling you. Are you sure you’re okay..?” (DH)

Young Jae smirked a bit as he looked away. That was probably the fifth time today that he’s apologized for tackling him. It was cute, but if he kept this up, it was going to get rather annoying rather quickly. “I’m fine, I already told you. You just need to.. use that strength in bed.” (YJ)

A small chuckle escaped his lips as Daehyun slightly shook his head. Turning at the next corner, the car slowed to a stop once they encountered a red light. With a small smile, Daehyun leaned in close to Young Jae before pausing a small distance away from Young Jae. “So.. Can I get a kiss?” (DH)

Turning his head towards Daehyun, Young Jae raised a single brow as he saw the loving smile on Daehyun’s face. With a small smirk, Young Jae reached up and softly ran his fingers through Daehyun’s hair as he leaned in close. He was about to make contact when he stopped, his smirk coming back onto his face. “Have you earned it?” (YJ)

“Have I?” (DH) Young Jae chuckled a bit as he lowered his hand back down to Daehyun’s chest before pushing him back. With a playful smirk, Young Jae pointed his thumb forward, indicating that the light had turned green. A small chuckle escaped his lips before Daehyun moved the car forward.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The back car door opened as Jongup happily slid into the car. Once the door was closed, Daehyun put the car into drive before they began moving forward. Jongup settled in as he took his backpack off, his smile never leaving as he looked forward. “How was school, Jongup?” (YJ)

“It was really awesome! We dissected a frog today and it had a lot of eggs.” (JU)

“Oh? And do you know the parts inside of a frog?” (YJ) Jongup scratched the side of his head as he thought for a moment. They had just started learning about it, so he couldn’t exactly remember all of the parts inside of the frog, but if he studied he could get it.

“Not yet.. but I still have to study before the test next week.” (JU) Young Jae slightly nodded as he sat back in his seat. Well, as long as Jongup studied, then everything should be alright. He would just have to help Jongup with his studying once the weekend came around. “Oh! Dad! Can I learn how to drive?” (JU)

And that’s when all of his contentment flew out the window. Young Jae turned around as he looked at Jongup, whom innocently stared back at him. “Drive?! Do you not realize how dangerous driving is?! We only have one car and the learning how to drive, in the city no less, is not the greatest idea to go through with!” (YJ)

“I’ll start teaching you in the summer, when we go visit grandma and grandpa.” (DH) Young Jae turned to look at Daehyun and was about to say something, but he paused as he thought on Daehyun’s way of thinking. During the summer, they wouldn’t have to worry about driving in snow and with the area that their parents lived, it was fairly peaceful. If anything, it was probably the best place to learn how to drive since it isn’t in the city. Plus, Jongup will be out of school for summer break. Learning how to drive won’t get in the way of Jongup’s studies in that case.

“Alright.. fine. We’ll go with your father’s decision.” (YJ) Well Jongup had a mini victory celebration in the back seat, Young Jae sat back in his seat as he glanced over at Daehyun. As long as things went well when Daehyun taught Jongup, then there shouldn’t be any problems with Jongup learning. Of course, they weren’t going to be getting Jongup a car any time soon. As nice as it would have been to have Jongup driving himself around, Young Jae wasn’t necessarily certain if Jongup was responsible enough to handle a car.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Entering the elevator, Jongup pressed the button to their floor as Daehyun and Young Jae leaned against the back wall. As the doors began to close, Daehyun’s phone sounded for a brief moment, indicating that he had gotten a text. Pulling his phone out, Daehyun flipped it open before smiling and quickly responding to it.

Young Jae quickly eyed Daehyun with suspicion as he leaned in a little. What was Daehyun so happy about? There wasn’t much in the world that was all that entertaining and yet, a simple text seemed to bring all sorts of joyous emotions into Daehyun. “Who’s that?” (YJ)

“Oh.. uh.. nothing. Don’t worry about it.” (DH) Finally noticing that Young Jae was inching closer, Daehyun moved away a bit as he quickly finished his text and sent it. With his phone safely tucked away, Daehyun looked over at Young Jae and smiled. Sadly, Young Jae only narrowed his eye lids as he leaned in close to Daehyun before poking Daehyun’s chest roughly.

“Don’t smile at me, Daehyun Jung. You’re doing something and I don’t have a single ounce of trust in your actions.” (YJ) Daehyun frowned a bit as he reached up and took hold of Young Jae’s hand. Young Jae had tugged his hand a bit before reluctantly accepting Daehyun’s hold.

“Young Jae.. don’t be like this. You can trust me.” (DH)

“Then is there a reason why you won’t tell me anything?” (YJ) Daehyun smiled as he lowered their hands back down. There was definitely a good reason behind him keeping a secret, but he wasn’t about to reveal anything just yet.

“It’s a surprise. Don’t worry, alright?” (DH) A surprise? Did he mean a good one or a bad one? Did Daehyun not realize that he didn’t like surprises in general? Ever since that one time when his dad decided to scare him on Halloween, Young Jae hasn’t been a huge fan of surprises.

“This surprise had bett-” (YJ)

“Don’t think on it too much, alright? You’ll get the surprise soon enough. It’ll be good, I promise.” (DH) Daehyun leaned in and stole a quick kiss from Young Jae as the elevator doors opened. Young Jae eyed Daehyun as Daehyun and Jongup left the elevator. After a second or so, he soon followed after them.

Well, for now, he would have to have enough trust in Daehyun to believe in his capability of pulling off a good surprise. Sure, he had given a rather amazing surprise last year on Christma- No, it was only an okay surprise. It’s not like being proposed to on Christmas was a great surprise or anything. In fact, it was rather cliche, considering there were a few movies and most likely hundreds of couples that had done exactly what Daehyun had done.

Though.. he couldn’t help but look forward to what Daehyun had planned.

Chapter 35: I love this story so much! I waited with Reading cause I was reading another fanfic, but I shouldn't have waited... It's too good!!! I love the way you write, you put details in the story, but not too many, and because of that it's easy to read even when there are difficult words. Also, are you able to write everything in such a way that the reader can interpret fairly well whose thoughts it are. For example Youngjaes, where you use difficult words and show stubborness very well, and with Daehyun you get an easygoing mindset. It's totally awesome!! Love it!!!
