The next day, she slept through. The whole family went out for lunch, and she insisted she was fine alone and that Gary should go, so he ended up going. When they went out of the restaurant to leave, he heard his name repeatedly called.
“Gary oppa!!” Two girls who saw him called. He greeted them. “Where is Jihyo unnie?” They asked. He smiled at them and how they assume they’re always together.
“She’s at home.” He replied with a smile. His brother’s family came out of the restaurant, his brother patted his back,
“We’ll leave now then,” motioning himself and his wife. Gary nodded, “eomma’s still inside, I think she’s buying food to take home. Take care of my child, ok?” Again, Gary nodded and directed his eyes back to the chattering of the girls who seemed to have invited a crowd. He smiled at them politely, waiting for his nephew to take his bag. The five-year-old finally came, his bag looked bigger than his body. Looking at the crowd, he looked uneasy. He hid behind Gary’s legs, holding his hands while waiting for his grandmother. Gary looked at his nephew and took the oversized bag and slung it onto his left arm. He then picked up his nephew to his right side. The crowd cooed over him,
“Ah, gwiyeobda!” They said, only making his nephew more uneasy. Fortunately for him, his grandmother came soon after. Gary took the food his mother was carrying and excused himself. He put the food and the bag in the back, and sat his nephew on his car seat.
On the way home, they stopped to pick up a blue box decorated with a bow. It was simple, yet gorgeous. As soon as they got home, he put it in the closet.
The rest of the day went rather slow, there was not much to do. In the afternoon, he took a picture of her sleeping. There was not a tint of makeup on her face, yet it was still flawless. He smiled and uploaded it to the social media: Hopefully she will get better soon, he captioned it. Obviously, it was quickly flooded by messages telling him to wish her “get well soon” from them.
Soon, nighttime came to greet again. She woke up in the middle of the night, with a side of the bed cooler than hers. He was not in their bed. Navigating through the house, she found him in the kitchen, munching on toast as he sat on the sofa. The room was dark, only lit by the floor lamp by the other end of the sofa. She approached him and sat sideways on his lap, her head leaning against his neck. But like that, her temperature started to be the same as his. Maybe all she needed was a break after all. He smiled at her.
“Are you feeling better now?” He asked. She nodded against his neck. He chuckled as she took his hand in hers and bit on his toast. “Ok, I’m convinced that you are ok now.” He smiled and playfully pecked her crumb-stained lips. She whined sleepily and he laughed. “Come here…” He said. “Wait.” He said as they stood up. He the music as it played a soft tune.
He went into their room, took out the box he got earlier that day and went out again. She was still waiting in the same manner as he left her. He looked into her eyes, only to be met with a confused pair of eyes. He handed her the box and she untied the ribbon. Her skinny fingers lifted the box and there it was. A silver necklace that looked plain, yet elegant. Its pendant is i
