Through Sickness and Health
Crack Campus ChroniclesIt had been idiotic, he had to admit, all his attempts to make Minah change her mind about him had gotten her a little too hurt for him to bear.
Yes he knew she liked him. But Minah had become such a part of his friends that it was hard to see her beyond the "guy friend who can't come into the men's toilet". He also found it hard to believe as Minah wasn't very outright about her liking for him. Sure, she was extra nice to him, but that was about it.
His first thought when he found out was to push her away. But he found it hard because he had grown fond of the girl. He still wanted her friendship maybe not in a romantic way. So it began; the childish obliviousness that drove her up the walls and finally landed her in the infirmary.
His search for a mature woman had ended up making him act very immature.
He paced up and down the infirmary room while the nurse shot him a disapproving look only to have him ignore it. Minah was not only down due to the cold she had caught, but also the lack of sleep for whatever reason.
“Probably Joonmyeon’s idiotic stargazing plans.” He grumbled, looking at the figure on the bed. The nurse hadn’t covered her in a blanket (they didn’t have one, Donghae would change that soon) as she lay curled up, shivering. She looked very small then (that’s saying something, Donghae wasn’t very tall) and almost cute. Donghae’s lips pursed as he looked around for the nurse only to see that she was no longer in her post. He quickly clambered into the bed next to the shivering figure and wrapped his arms around her, trying to transfer as much body heat as he could. She inadvertently shifted closer to the source of warmth as he shed his jacket and draped it over her shoulders. Her pale face made him feel guilty.
“I’m so sorry,” he whispered to the sleeping figure who curled up against him. Her breathing was even as she rolled closer to him making him notice how really small she was in comparison to him, how her eye lashes curled upwards and her face was smooth. How certain parts of her body dipped and curved under the large t-shirt, how she had been so light in his arms.
Did he even know Minah for who she was? She had always been endlessly patient with him, with the occasional childish tantrums on her part. She had always stood by him during his job as a President, Boss and Captain. Minah had been a true friend at all times. Donghae wondered if he had ever done the same with her. He didn’t know the intricacies of Minah’s mind, he did know her odd habits, or the things that made her laugh but he felt that that wasn’t enough anymore. Because now he realized something important.
Minah was a woman. He needed to know Minah for the woman she was.
He raised his hand to place the back of his palm against her cheek only to hear pants at the door and a
“What the hell do you think you’re doing Donghae?”
He spun around to see Joonmyeon’s eyes piercing into him. Donghae lazily turned his head towards the latter, trying hard not to move away from the person next to him.
“She was cold.”
“This is highly inappropriate.” Joonmyeon snapped, eyeing the proximity of the two as something clicked in Donghae’s head.
“Are you…jealous?”
“What?! No! It’s inappropriate for the Student Council President to be caught in such a situation!” Joonmyeon quickly replied.
“If I explain the circumstances of our useless infirmary, I’m sure they’ll understand.”
“Lying down next to a female student will not be excused by such a flimsy excuse.”
“How about you go get her a blanket then?”
“How about you go instead, this is your fault after all.”
“I’m trying to rectify it to the best of my ability!”
“In the most inappropriate manner!” Joonmyeon exclaimed as Donghae felt Minah shifting next to him.
“What’s going on, Dambi, Ahra, take it outside guys.” Minah groaned before snuggling closer to Donghae breathing in deeply, Joonmyeon stiffened whil
