-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was a hard decision to leave the country, leave everyone back, leave Mark back, and to start a new life. But it was even harder to not return. I had known from the moment I had turned my back to him, that I had done a mistake. With every breath I had taken, I had felt the regret crawling up my throat. I can’t say I don’t regret it anymore. Every time I look into their faces, I feel regret. Everything could have turned the other way. But why didn’t I? Was I egoistic? Had I been a coward, who couldn’t face my problems?

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

“Things worked better out than I expected. We could move on faster. What do you think, Jinyoung? The children could get used to their new environment, before going to nursery school. And I’m pretty sure Mr and Mrs Park would be glad if you spent some time with them before throwing yourself into work again.”

Jinyoung looked up from the documents he was scanning and sighted.

“Yes, my mother already called me twice because of this issue. She really wishes me and the children to come and visit her before they go to nursery school.” Jinyoung’s fingers were swirling around the dark blue pen with his initial on the case. “Call me idiotic, but I have a bad feeling. I don’t want any news about me to leak before the official event. Also, I have the feeling, I will meet bad luck and meet him…”

His assistant smiled a gentle smile. By now he knew Jinyoung well. He had already made up his mind, especially with his mother insisting him to come. But Jinyoung had gained a very careful and almost suspicious side.

“As far, I can assure you, they won’t be in Seoul as long as they need to. The last months they have been avoiding Korea because they know as soon as they stay longer, they will have to face some angry members of the stock. They reached the edge of their investors’ patience and no matter how many times their reputation had saved them from giving up their chairman position, this time they know they failed. Therefore, you had the chance to barge in.”

Jinyoung nodded.

“I know, actually there’s nothing to worry about…” He hasn’t finished the sentence, when they both heard a knock at the door.

“Come in.”

A young and tall man entered his office, wearing a navy-blue suit. He was pushing a little suitcase but left it in the middle in the room to come around the table and hug Jinyoung, who has just stood up.

“I will take my leave then. Have a nice evening, gentlemen.” The assistant smiled and left the room.

The man was still hugging Jinyoung tightly, with no intention to let go soon.

“I missed you so much…” He whispered into the younger one’s ear. “And you didn’t even call me once when I was gone…”

Jinyoung, who had his face pressed into the other’s chest, giggled.

“You’ve been gone for two days, you big baby.”

“You are so mean… Why are you so mean to me? You’re so nice to Jona, but never to me…”

Jinyoung entangled himself from the hug to look into his face.

He couldn’t help but to smile upon seeing him. If you just saw that face you’d never think he was reaching his thirties these years. His was still youthful, almost boyish. And the curly blonde hair falling into his face made him look even younger. And now that he was pouting, he really looked like a baby.

Jinyoung took his hand and placed it on his cheek. He tilted his head, rubbing his cheek against the man’s palm but gave him his puppy eyes.

“Do you really think I’m mean to you?”

Silence. He was just looking at Jinyoung, his eyes darkened, and then he grabbed the younger one’s face and gave him a long and deep kiss.

“Damn it… You better not pull this trick again. Else I can’t promise anything…”

Jinyoung laughed and sat back on his chair. He took the documents he had been checking and gave them to the other man.

“What do you think? Looks good right? I will let the departments publish it as soon as Jonathan is back from his business trip.”

The blonde man scanned the papers, reading everything carefully.

“Hmm… I think this is good framework for the new labour policy. But I’m still not convinced you can get the through with the stock holders.”

Jinyoung nodded.

“Now that you mentioned it. How was the meeting? How are these people in real life?”

The blonde man leaned against the table and put his head back in his neck.

“Well, you can clearly say, hardened fronts. There are the Korean stock holders who will clearly stab them. They have enough, and they were also mad about his absence. And then there are two major Chinese stockholders. One is clearly siding with them, but just out of pure loyalty. With the other I had the feeling it just needs some convincing power of your side. He is young, just took over his father’s business. He might be connected with them, but he wants changes in the old system, and if you introduce him to your policies, he will be convinced for sure.”

Jinyoung nodded and took the man’s hand again.

“Thank you very much for your efforts, James. I know, you have your own work to do with your projects…”

He never felt good sending James out for the meetings he was supposed to take part in. But ever since he had founded the company, he hadn’t make an official appearance. And especially now his presence was needed to overtake the leading position, but he wasn’t going public until the official welcoming event for him in some weeks.

James squeezed his hand.

“I hope this is really what you want… You and the children could just stay in London and expand the business here. We could all live together in the house…” James stopped in the middle of the sentence. He took Jinyoung’s face and looked deeply into his eyes.

“We could get married and live happily together…”

Jinyoung sighted.

“I’m sorry James…”

“No… Please… I’m sorry. By now I should accept that. It’s just, I wished it could happen…”

He bent over and kissed Jinyoung’s plump lips. Without hesitation Jinyoung wrapped his arms around the other’s neck and pulled their bodies closer together…

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

It was already midnight, when Jinyoung came back home. The lights of the house were already dimmed and food, which had been prepared for him, already cold. He took off his coat and went into the living room. Sherilyn was sitting on the couch, sewing together a teddy bear. She looked up when she heard Jinyoung entering the room. Putting the sewing stuff aside, she stood up to hug Jinyoung.

“You’re back late. How was your day?”

“Good. And yours? Were the children upset I didn’t come home for dinner?”

“Yes, they were. At first, they refused to eat, but with a little bit of convincing work they gave in. After kindergarten I took them out to the park and Noah had his first success on the bike.”

Jinyoung smiled and patted Sherilyn’s hand, which was massaging his shoulders.

“Mia must be pretty upset, right? I promised her I would come home today to read a good night story…”

“Don’t worry. At the end she was more upset about the teddy she had accidentally ripped than you not coming home to dinner.”

“Thank you for taking care again. I know you should actually be studying for your exams.”

“Don’t. I still got the time to study. They went to bed early today.”

“That’s good. You shouldn’t stay up too long. I will go to bed now. Good night.”

Jinyoung made his way up to the bedrooms. When he looked into his daughter’s bedroom, he found it empty. A little bit bewildered, he went to the bedroom of his son next to it. There he found both of his children snuggled together in the bed. He couldn’t help the wide smile when he saw this picture. He sat down on the edge and caressed his daughter’s, then his son’s hair.

His son stirred, then opened his eyes.

“Daddy…” he mumbled.

Mia next to him opened her eyes immediately and hugged his waist.

“Daddy, where were you all day?”

“I’m sorry princess… I had a lot of work to do and then uncle James came back to talk to Daddy…”

His little daughter pouted.

“Daddy… we missed you…” Noah also pouted, leaning his head against his arm.

“I’m sorry my babies… Do you want to sleep with Daddy tonight?”

Both nodded simultaneously. Jinyoung lifted both up and carried them into his bedroom.

“I will shower, okay? Then Daddy will give you both big hugs.”

Jinyoung hurried to prepare himself for bed.

When he came back, his children had already lied down. Mia had leaned her head against her brother’s shoulder, her eyelids dropping. But they were wide opened when she saw him entering the room. He took his place in the middle of the bed and they crawled on each side, snuggling their little bodies against his body. He wrapped his arms around them and pulled them closer to him. Inhaling the smell of baby oil and powder, he finally felt like he had arrived at home.

Just now he realised how he had missed his children.

“I’m sorry I didn’t come home for dinner tonight. I’m sorry I couldn’t read to you. Daddy promise he will stay home tomorrow and read to you. Is this alright?”

“Yes, Daddy…” Mia sounded half asleep, but he knew, if he didn’t sleep she wouldn’t sleep either.

“Babies, Grandma called me. She wants us to visit her as soon as possible. Is it okay, if we leave London earlier? I promise we will have a farewell party with all your friends.”

“Yes, Daddy.” Noah nodded beside him.

“That’s good.” He gave his son a peck on his hair. “Now sleep. Daddy is here now.”

It didn’t take long for his children to fall asleep. Jinyoung was still lying there for some time, caressing both his children’s hair, listening to their steady breath. Maybe James was right. Maybe it was the best if he stayed here in London. Noah and Mia were born here in London and they grew up here, with their friends and uncles. He didn’t know whether they could get used to their new environment in Seoul. And what would happen afterwards…? Maybe it really was the best, if Jinyoung just stayed here, married James and gave his children the best lives they could have here.

But looking at his daughter, and then mostly at his son, he felt like he needed to do this.

He must return to Korea. He must take over his new leading position. For the sake of him and his children, to fulfil something, to get things in the way it should be somehow…

He didn’t know when he fell asleep, but when he opened his eyes again, the sun was already up. He wanted to sit up, but Mia had half of her body on his chest while Noah was hugging his waist. He couldn’t help but to smile. The days, when he was with his children, were the best. And today was Saturday, so he had the whole day for them.

While lying around, he thought about what they were going to do today.

After breakfast he would take them to the Zoo. And for the evening they could watch a movie.

His phone started ringing and the tone woke up the children. Jinyoung placed them next to each other and tugged them in. Then he took his phone from the nightstand.

“Did I wake you guys?” James sounded apologetic.

“Kind of. What’s the matter?”

“Would you three like to go out for dinner tonight? I will come back from Munich at around 6 o’ clock and there’s this new place right next to the Thames. I’m pretty sure Noah and Mia will like it. The Italian food seems to be great there.”

“Babies, uncle James is asking us out for dinner. Do you want to go?”

From the bundle, who had hugged themselves into sleep again, he heard a mumbled yes.

Jinyoung giggled.

“I think they agreed. See you tonight then.”

After hanging up he kissed his children, then made his way into the bathroom. Taking a hot shower, he had to think about James again.

“We could get married and live happily…” That is what James said. And he was right. He could get married with him. And Noah and Mia loved him like he was their real daddy. He could…

Jinyoung decided to make pancakes for breakfast. He just finished the last one, when he felt how pairs of arms wrapped around his legs. He looked down at the cute sleepy faces of his children.

“Rise and shine, babies. Are you hungry?”

Noah nodded, Mia was still too tired and just snuggled against his leg.

“How about you sit down on your chairs? I will bring you milk.”

While he filled two cups with milk he watched how they both made their ways to the dining table. Noah helped his sister into her feeding chair, then climbed into his.

Jinyoung put down the cups of milk, then the pancakes. The moment Mia saw the pancakes her eyes were widely opened, and she was already grabbing one. He knew she loved pancakes.

“Daddy, where are we going tonight?” Noah asked and took a sip of his milk.

Jinyoung gave him an apple slice.

“Uncle James knows a great Italian place near the Thames he wants to take us to.”

“Daddy, what are we doing today?” Mia had already finished her plate and Jinyoung also gave her an apple slice.

“How about the Zoo? We could see the lions and giraffes.”

“Yay!”

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

When Jinyoung looked at the driving mirror he saw how his children had fallen asleep, still holding their hands tightly.

He was always amazed by their special connection. He had been told that twins always have a strong bond, stronger than normal siblings, but Noah and Mia were really close. When Jinyoung didn’t come home all day, they would sleep together in one bed. Noah always protected his sister, while his sister always defended her brother.

Once, Noah had broken Jinyoung’s phone. He had been too afraid to tell him, but Jinyoung already knew. But Mia took the fault, and even when Jinyoung told her he knew it was Noah, she insisted on taking the blame on her. When Jinyoung senr Noah into his room to reflect on his action, Mia had gone with him.

With only 3 years they already were so smart and caring. Jinyoung was glad and proud about it.

Today had been a wonderful day. The weather had been surprisingly good for London, even the sun came out during the day. His children had been excited to see all the animals and Jinyoung was glad to see them all playful and hungry during the breaks.

He was still worried about them moving to Korea. He was talking in Korean to them, but their main language was still English. Could they get used to the change? Would they have as much fun there as they had here in London?

The only good thing was, they would be closer to their grandparents.

Jinyoung was torn off his thoughts when his phone rang. He put his earphones on.

“Hi, Joey.”

“Hi, Jinnie. How are you and the children?”

“I’m glad you’re calling. We’re doing pretty fine. I took them to the zoo today. Mia still insist on the koala looking like uncle Joey while Noah says uncle Joey looks like a sloth.”

His friend laughed.

“Still the same old thing. I miss them so much. When will you visit me in California?”

“I’m sorry, I’ve been so busy with the preparations for the moving. But we’ve finished earlier. I planned on going in three weeks. Maybe…”

“Don’t stress yourself, dear. I have some work in France to do next week. Afterwards I would come over for some days, if you have the time.”

“That’s be great! We’d love to see you again.”

“Jinyoung…? Are you really doing okay? I mean, do you really want to do this?”

Jinyoung was silent for a moment. Joey was the second person to ask him this question now. Was he really doing the right thing if so many people were asking him this question?

“Why’d you ask? Are you doubting my choices?” It didn’t sound upset, more sadly.

“Jinyoung, I’ve always been on your side. And I will always be on your side. I trust that everything you do, every decision you make, was planned and thought through. I know, the reason why you are doing this, is because of Noah and Mia. But what about you? How are you feeling with this decision? Will you be happy? I’m asking you this question, because you never care about yourself, so others have to do this for you.”

Joey sounded more serious than ever.

“As long as my children will be happy. I want to secure their future. And somehow… give them something that belongs to them. I know, it’s been a hard way. I’m really thankful for everything you have done for me. I’m thankful that you are such an important person in our lives. I’ve put you into a difficult position, not just once, but many times. I owe you so much, Joey.”

“Jinyoung….”

Jinyoung was on the verge of crying, so he pulled over.

“Thank you, Joey. I don’t know how much I owe you…”

“Jinyoung, stop it. You don’t have to thank me. We aren’t just friends, we are more than that. I would do everything for you again, no questions needed.”

Jinyoung bit his lip in order not to cry. He felt a wave of affection and gratefulness overcoming him. The last months had been hard, but he had always known, that he had the ability to make it, with the support and love of Joey, James and Jonathan.

“I’d be really glad to see you next week. I miss you so much.”

“I miss you too. Give them a bear hug from me. I will see you next week.”

After hanging up Jinyoung dried his eyes with his sleeve and almost got a heart attack when he heard a tiny voice behind him.

“Daddy why are you crying?” Noah had woken up, leaning forward in his seat. Jinyoung turned around to him and grabbed the little hand which was reaching for him.

“Are you sad, Daddy? Did I do something wrong?”

Jinyoung smiles at his son.

“No, baby. You didn’t do anything wrong. Daddy isn’t sad. Daddy is happy. Uncle Joey just called me. He said he misses you and Mia. He will visit us next week. I’m happy because I miss uncle Joey so much.”

Noah smiled his most adorable smile now that he knew he hadn’t done anything to make Jinyoung sad.

“I’m happy too. I miss uncle Joey so much.”

“Let’s prepare something for him then. And now sleep some more baby. We still have a long ride to the airport.”

Noah nodded and laid back.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

“So, and now Noah the spoon of sugar.”

Jonathan slowly lead the small person to the bowl, then helped to empty the spoon full of brown sugar into the bowl.

“And now, Mia mix it again.” Jinyoung watched how his daughter took her whole energy to mix the dough with the cooking spoon. Jonathan held the bowl for her and she gave him a wide smile.

“Noah, can you get me the baking tin please?”

Jinyoung got the baking tin from the counter and put it into his son’s hands.

“Thank you, Daddy.”

He’s been watching the three of them for an hour now. Jonathan was taking his time to bake a pie with his children for Joey’s welcome party. Ever since both could walk and talk a little bit Jonathan had made it a tradition to bake with them every time there was a special occasion. And Noah and Mia really loved it.

Jinyoung on the other hand was cooking a stew, Joey’s favourite beef stew.

He was just tasting it, when two arms wrapped around his waist and pulled him against a warm body. A chin was leaned on his shoulder and when Jinyoung turned his head a pair of soft lips smooched a kiss on his nose.

“Joey is so lucky…” James pouted.

“Hey James! Not in front of the children!” Jonathan shouted from the other side, and James turned around to him and stuck out his tongue.

“You’re just jealous!”

The children laughed at their uncles being childish and Jinyoung couldn’t help it either.

“Right, children? Who loves Daddy Jinyoung the most in the room?”

“We do!” Noah and Mia cheered simultaneously.

James laughed at their answer and shook his head.

“I’m picking up Joey now. The traffic seems terrible today, so you guys still have a lot of time to prepare.”

He gave Jinyoung, then Noah and Mia a kiss and left.

The next hour the kitchen was filled with laughter, especially when it came to decorate the cake. At the end, his children were lying on the sofa, deep asleep and with chocolate marks on their faces.

Jonathan tugged them in, while Jinyoung did the last preparations on the dining table.

“Is something the matter, Jinyoung?” Jonathan asked and helped him with the plates.

“What do you mean?”

“You seemed distracted the whole day now. Is something the matter? Did something happen?”

“I was just thinking…”

Jonathan looked at the younger, his eyes full of worry. They had been together for over 4 years now. Every time Jinyoung was that quiet, he was questioning his life choices.

“Jinyoung…?”

Jinyoung took Jonathan’s hand.

“I’m getting more nervous, the closer we get to the official event. What if the plan won’t work out? What if I won’t take over the CEO position, because in the end the investors change their mind? Then everything was in vain. Then I revealed everything, risking my personal privacy, and putting my children into a situation that could have been avoided. I’m starting to doubt my decision.”

Jonathan squeezed his hand.

“Darling… From the moment I brought you to the States I knew everything would work out for you. I mean, we didn’t expect Noah and Mia at all, but I think it was an even better plan to move to London. Within two years you built up an investment company that is almost worth a billion dollars. And that from scratch. Business people both admire and fear you. You enjoy the trust of so many high business men. Beside your business accomplishments you raised up two wonderful children. Noah and Mia are adorable two creatures, beautiful and already too smart for their age. And…” He grabbed Jinyoung’s shoulder and pulled him closer.

“And you have two y British men, who are all over you…”

Jinyoung laughed at the last thing.

“I mean, seriously…. There’s me… But James is really… You only hint a nod, and that guy will marry you off the spot. Really… He’s crazy….”

Jinyoung hugged the older one.

“Thank you, Jona… You always know how to make me feel better.”

Jonathan snorted.

“Pardon…. If I didn’t, what a person would I be? But let’s put the jokes aside. Don’t think too much. Believe in your gut feelings. We all know you can do it, as long as you don’t doubt it yourself.”

“But hypothetically: What if I did mess up?”

“Please… We escaped them once, so we can do it again. But I think they will be the one escaping from you, not you from them…”

Just as Jonathan said it, Jinyoung’s fighting spirit was back again. The British saw the fire in his eyes again.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Jinyoung had chosen the fastest flight from London to Busan, but 16 hours were still exhausting for two young children. Although they had enjoyed the comfort of the first class, they couldn’t sleep and eat very well.

Jinyoung lifted both up and with the help of the stewardess he exited the plane.

It’s been 2 years since he’s been to Korea.

The last time he had been was when he had just made his first success with his company. That’s when he had bought his parents a house in Busan.

It felt strange to be here now and that was strange because this was his fatherland.

He could feel how some passengers were looking at him when he took his way to the limousine, which brought him to the exit gate.

The children were half asleep on his arms, sweating from the heat of August. Sherry seemed okay, but his son had a hard time, he was whimpering.

He was glad, when he saw his parents waiting at the gate.

They both came towards them, Jinyoung’s father taking over the cart with the luggage.

“I’m so glad you’re finally here!” Jinyoung’s mother had a hard time holding back her tears.

“Let me help you with them!” His mother wanted to take Noah, but he whined and held tight to Jinyoung. Mia, who was asleep, didn’t refuse her grandmother.

“They must be exhausted from the flight. Let’s go home. “Jinyoung’s father led the troop to the car.

It didn’t take long for them to get home. Jinyoung had bought his parents a house near to the city, so they were closer to their work places. Although they didn’t need to work anymore, they still insisted on working. His father had found a new job, days after they had moved into the new house. Their neighbour ran a small company, and thanks to his neighbourhood and his good reputation he had started as sales manager. Now Mr Park was in responsibility for the sales abroad due to his experience from before. His mother had opened her own little café in the neighbourhood which was very popular among women coming there to enjoy a cup of hot brewed coffee while letting their children go on play dates.

“They look so thin, dear. Are they eating enough?” His mother caressed Mia’s cheek, brushing away a brown hair strand.

“Yes, Mom. They eat very well and before I came here I made sure to check on their health once again. Didn’t I send you the video of Mia eating one whole piece of cake from their farewell party?”

His mother giggled.

“Right. As soon as she wakes up, she can have a big piece of the pecan pie I baked for you three.”

“Thank you, Mom.”

When Jinyoung had first saw the inside of the house, everything still looked minimalistic. But now, two years later, his parents had added a lot of personal things, and Jinyoung felt more home. Family pictures, little souvenirs from their trips when Jinyoung was younger, and flowers. His mother loved flowers and his father had always loved to gift her flowers.

They had prepared the guest room for Jinyoung and his children.

Mia was awake and was playing with her grandpa, but Noah still didn’t feel well. He had caught a light fever. Jinyoung changed him into something more comfortable, then fed him some soup his mother had made and changed the cold pads on his forehead.

He was refusing to take his medicine at first, but when Jinyoung promised him he could sleep on his chest, he agreed. Sometimes Mia would come in with her worried eyes. She would give Noah and Jinyoung a kiss, pat her brothers head and then leave again.

Jinyoung was thankful towards his parents right now. He was exhausted himself and glad they could be with Mia while he rested a little bit.

It was evening, and Noah’s fever had gone down a little bit.

Jinyoung was still holding him in his arms. With his fingers he brushed away the wet hair strands out of his son’s face.

“My poor baby…” He mumbled. “Everything will be fine. Daddy is here…”

Noah hugged him tighter and Jinyoung almost teared up.

If it wasn’t for his son and his daughter, he would have been dead by now. When they were born, he had found a new reason to live. They were like the sun in the darkness of his universe. They were everything Jinyoung ever wanted and needed, and Jinyoung would do everything to make them happy.

Just now by looking into his son’s sleeping face filled him with all the happiness he needed. It was just a tiny piece in his heart that ached a little bit… Especially by looking at Noah his features, his face, eyes, and even his smile

“Oh baby…”

He started humming a song. It was a song he always hummed to Noah and Mia, when they were ill or had a hard time to fall asleep. It was a song Jackson had once hummed to him.

His son fell asleep again.

Some time later Mia came in. Her eyelids were almost dropping. She was rubbing her eyes but by the way she was staggering to the bed Jinyoung already knew she was more than tired.

Jinyoung opened his arm and she crawled into his embrace.

“Did you have fun today with grandma and grandpa?”

She nodded.

“I’m sorry we couldn’t do anything together princess… Noah didn’t feel good after the flight.”

She took her brothers hand and squeezed it.

“Oppa… feel better now?”

“Yes, I think so.”

Still holding hands, she fell asleep on Jinyoung’s shoulder. Jinyoung waited until they were both fast asleep, then he lied both down on the bed and tugged them in. He just dimmed the light and the baby phone, then went into the living room, where his parents were sitting.

“Sit down and have some food, dear.”

Just when Jinyoung tasted his mother’s home cooked food, he finally felt like he was really back.

“Thank you for taking care of Mia today. I hope it’s okay for you if we stay here for some time…” Jinyoung looked down on his empty bowl.

“Why are you saying this, Jinyoung? You’re acting like you’re not our son.” His father’s voice was stern but looking at his face he knew his father was just worried.

“Is Noah better?”

“Yes, he is. I think it was just the stress.”

“How about you, dear? How are you feeling? It must have been a lot of trouble moving everything back here.” His mother caressed his cheek.

“It was okay. The moving company did most of the things. Our stuff is in the new house in Seoul now and my assistant is actually doing everything there. I need to go there for some organisation.”

“You know what you are doing is a big plan…? Although they have lost a great part of their reputation, their empire is big. And taking over such an important branch of their empire in a whole country won’t just keep them still in their seats.”

“I know Dad. But almost everything is done. During the last months I collected all the stocks that were bought. I practically own 15 percentage of their whole hotel business. And over 35 percentage of their hotels here in Korea. We met up with three investors already, and if I can persuade the last major investor here in Korea, then I have 70 percentage on my side. I just want this part in Korea. About the other abroad I don’t care for now.”

“Who’s the major investor?”

Jinyoung played with the spoon in his hand.

“His name is MyungJoo Chu. I think he is around the age you are. He was involved in their business since their beginning in Korea. Mr Chu is a known investor in the hotel and restaurant field. He had brought up a lot of restaurant chains by now.”

“I think I heard of him. A fish hard to catch. I don’t think he’s siding with them, but you’re young and you really need to prove him of your capabilities.”

“Yes, Dad. I’m sure I can do it.”

“You should rest for some more days, dear, before starting with the preparations of the take-over. I can take care of the children as long as you want. Jonathan is going to be here too?”

Jinyoung nodded and took a sip of the lotus seed tea.

“Yes, he will arrive here in about one week. We will prepare for the opening event and meet up with our partners in Korea. There’s a few things to do.”

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Since Jinyoung had arrived in Korea, time had flown by. One week at his parents’ house felt like two days. But they really helped him gaining the power he needed for the upcoming events.

He realised how much he had missed his mother’s cooking. He had moved out from home when he was 17, moving to Seoul to study. Ever since then he hadn’t been at home for a longer period, being busy with studies and work. Now, he had returned, and also his children could get a good taste of Korean food.

Last time, when his mother took care of him, he was a child himself, now he was with his children.

Mia got used to the new environment quickly, adapted to climate changes and the sun, and seemed to love it. She followed her grandmother everywhere, even to her café, where she met other children.

Noah on the other hand had a hard time getting used to everything. He was still weak from the fever and clingier to Jinyoung than usual. When Jinyoung wasn’t holding him, his son was hugging his leg. He also behaved differently, holding his distant from everyone, even his sister.

After that week Jinyoung had to work and he had actually planned on letting both his children with his parents while going to Seoul.

When he opened up his plans to his children, Noah started crying and Jinyoung almost got a heart attack.

Noah rarely cried. Jinyoung couldn’t even remember the last time he did, but just by asking him to stay here with his grandparents made his son sob and hugging Jinyoung.

Mia on the other way wanted to stay with her grandmother so Jinyoung decided to leave her back with his mother while taking her older brother with him to Seoul.

Jonathan, who arrived earlier in Seoul, was waiting at the airport for Jinyoung, and was surprised to see him with Noah on his arm.

“Hey, Babyboy. I thought you were going to stay with Mia and your grandparents. Daddy and uncle Jonathan will have a lot of work and won’t have time to play with you.”

He pinched Noah’s chubby cheek and his son pouted.

“Noah will play alone. But Noah wants to be with Daddy.”

Jinyoung couldn’t help but to give his son a big smooch on his cheek. He couldn’t believe he had made such an adorable creature like Noah.

His house in Seoul wasn’t organised yet, so he rented a loft in a hotel in the city centre.

The loft was big, with two bedrooms, and a big living room with a wooden dining table, which turned into Jinyoung’s new home office.

He was working a lot, by his side his assistant, and on the other side of the table Jonathan.

Jinyoung always knew his children were good to him. Since their birth they were good, sleeping well, eating well and staying healthy. They barely cried and always listened to him. But during these days Jinyoung realised, his son was so patient.

While he was working Noah would nap or play with his toys. Sometimes he would just sit next to Jinyoung, leaning his head against his father and watching him typing into his laptop.

Dinner was the best time of the day. At first Jinyoung would call Mia and his mother to ask about their well-being. Noah missed his sister a lot, it was their first time being separated for so long. While Jinyoung was cooking they would still facetime with each other, talking about their day and what they had eaten.

Jinyoung had some meetings with JJJ’s partners and Noah was accompanying him. He behaved really well, was polite with all his business partners and they were mesmerized by him. The meeting was more about how he had raised his son than about the real business. But that was good for Jinyoung. He was proud of his son.

There were just some days left before the big event and Jinyoung became nervous and tense. Only with the presence of his son he felt better. Every time his heart was beating faster, he hugged Noah and felt better right away.

Jonathan could feel how tense Jinyoung was.

“Don’t worry. Everything is perfect so far.”

He knew only James could really relax Jinyoung, the he was still stuck in London until the day of the opening event.

It was the night before the event, when Jinyoung had a really bad nightmare. It actually wasn’t a nightmare, but the memories of his past made him feel worse than ever before. When he woke up, sweating all over his body, the first thing he did was to check on his son next to him.

Noah was still heavily asleep, one leg sticking out of the blanket. Glad he hadn’t woken him up, Jinyoung tugged him in properly, then went into the living room.

It was after 2 am, and Jinyoung was surprised to see Jonathan sitting on the couch with a drink in his hand.

“I heard you screaming in your dream. Are you alright?”

Without giving any answer, Jinyoung snuggled himself between Jonathan’s arm and put his head on his shoulder.

“That old one again?”

Jinyoung just nodded.

“I’m here, Jinyoung. We went through this hard time together. And I will go with you through every hardship that is going to come along your way.”

Jinyoung buried his face in the soft fabric of Jonathan’s pyjama.

“If it wasn’t for you, I don’t know how things would be now. I can’t imagine, and I don’t want to.”

“Life consists of giving and getting. Your parents helped me and mine in our hardest time. What I gave you back was just a little piece of the graciousness of your parents. And I know that you feel bad for me, but I’ve accepted a long time ago, that your heart will never belong to me. It’s okay. You and the children are giving me happiness every time. And you’re making me proud by reaching your goals.”

“Jona… I love you…”

“I know. I love you, too.”

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Jinyoung was woken up by the bright sunlight that came through the window. He had fallen asleep with Jonathan on the couch, and now could feel how his whole body was aching.

He was slowly sitting up to check the time, when a voice from behind startled him.

“What did you two do when I was away?” James was sitting on the dining table with a cup of coffee in his hands.

“You’re here!”

Jinyoung swung himself from the couch and came across the room to give his friend a bear hug.

“Don’t you try to fool me away! I’m really jealous right now…”

Jinyoung smiled and put his hands on James’ hand still on the cup. He took a sip from the freshly brewed coffee, then looked up into the other’s face.

“I’m not. I just missed you a lot…”

Jinyoung knew the other was melting away right now, ready to grab him by his waist, when they heard little footsteps. Then a tiny tired, but happy voice.

“Uncle James!” Noah ran across the room, almost tripped over the carpet and jumped into his already opened arms. James hugged him so tightly, Jinyoung was afraid he would crush his little son to death and lifted him up.

“Hi buddy! I missed you so much.”

“I missed you too, Uncle James.”

“Where did you leave Mia?”

Noah pouted.

“Mia wanted to stay with grandma, although I told her we could see you together. Mia has new friends there…”

James laughed and gave him a peck on his cheek.

“Don’t worry buddy. I will stay here a little longer and then we three can go have ice cream all together.”

“He wasn’t that happy to see me… He clearly has a favourite uncle…” Jonathan, who was also awake now, pouted from the other side od the room.

Noah gave him a big smile. “Noah missed uncle Jona too!”

Jinyoung laughed at the three of them, then put down the cup to take his son.

“I don’t think that’s what he meant, baby. Come on, we will go take a shower now, dress up and then have a nice breakfast. By the way, where is Sherilyn, James?”

“She’s in her hotel room. We will pick her up on our way.”

Jinyoung was watching his son as he shampooed his soft hair. He had notice ever since they had returned to Seoul his son had slowly become his old self again. He was more relaxed around Jonathan, and now that Noah was with James too, and soon with Sherilyn, he couldn’t stop smiling. And he was all active and bubbly again.

“Noah?” He was drying his son’s hair.

“Yes, daddy?”

“Are you happy to see Uncle James, Jona and Sherilyn again?”

“Yes, daddy. I’m so happy.”

“But don’t you like being with Grandma and Grandpa. They love Mia and you so much.”

“I like Grandma and Grandpa. But when daddy is with grandma and grandpa, you don’t smile. And when daddy is with Uncle Jona and Uncle James, daddy smiles so much. And when you are happy, I am happy too.”

Jinyoung must have really looked at his son weirdly, because his smile disappeared, and he put his little hand on Jinyoung’s cheek.

“Daddy?”

Jinyoung still had a hard time catching his breath. He just couldn’t believe what his son had said.

In this moment he was scared and happy at the same time.

His son hadn’t turned four, yet he still saw more than Jinyoung himself. He was already too smart, already noticed too much for his age. Was Jinyoung really doing the right thing? Was he really giving his son the carefree and happy childhood that he deserved? Even when Jinyoung tried to hide his true feelings, his son seemed to notice.

“Daddy, Noah is sorry…”

“No…” Jinyoung hugged his tiny body. “No, baby. Don’t be sorry. You are such a good boy and I was just surprised.”

“Daddy is not mad?”

“No, baby. I’m not mad. I’m just happy that I have you and Mia. Daddy is always happy, when he is with you and Mia. I love you more than anything else, my son.”

Jinyoung couldn’t stop thinking about what his son had said to him. Not during the breakfast, even not when he was supposed to be concentrated. He was watching how the event manager and her team prepared for the big event.

For his debut he had rented a whole mansion in the suburb of Seoul. It was a big house, with a huge ball room and a garden.

While he watched, how the little stage for his speech was built up, his son’s words were still echoing in his head.

“When you are happy, I’m happy too.” That is what his son had said. His happiness consisted only of the happiness of his children. And his son’s happiness consisted of his happiness. A closed circle. The way things were, wasn’t it already better than anything he had wished for? Then why was he doing all this, coming back to Seoul and taking over his new position?

Jinyoung didn’t need a psychic to see that many problems were awaiting him in the future. He would face the dark parts of his past again, and on top of all that he had to protect his children from these people. He came back, to get his now healed wounds be ripped open again. And Jinyoung had to admit, that besides the point that he was gaining something for his children’s sake, he was also seeking revenge. Revenge for all the bad they had done to him.

“Jinyoung, even with the best make up I won’t be able to conceal those wrinkles on your forehead.”

Jinyoung jumped and almost fell into one of the tables, when he heard Sherilyn’s voice next to him.

His poor heart had missed a beat, and now it was beating hard against his chest.

“Jesus Christ, do you want to kill me?!”

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to. Seems like you were so lost in thoughts you didn’t even notice how I have been walking next to you for the last five minutes. Is something wrong?”

Jinyoung shook his head.

“No, I was just checking on the preparations.”

“Noah is taking his nap right now. How are your instructions?”

Jinyoung looked at the decoration of the dining tables in the ball room.

“It’s better if you both stay in the third floor. I will place two bodyguards up there so no one can enter. The protocol is the usual one. No one shall see him, especially today. There will be many reporters, so please pay attention. I will have food send up there. If something is the matter call me immediately.”

“I got it. Will… he be there?”

Jinyoung stopped in his movement.

“I… don’t think so.”

Just as spoke out the sentence, his phone rang.

“Joey, I’m glad you are calling. How are things?”

“Hi, Jinyoung. I’ve just landed in Seoul. I will come early, and I will come separately from the others. Mark won’t attend this event. As I heard he is still in Taipei.”

“I got it. How are we going to do this? Is it okay, if I place your seat card at our table?”

“Yes. How are the children?”

“They’re fine. Mia is with my parents right now. Noah is with me, and Sherilyn will take care of him here.”

“That’s good. We will see each other later then, Mr Park.”

“It’ll be a pleasure, Mr Tuan.”

As Jinyoung hung up, he met with Sherilyn’s stare.

“Mark won’t come. And I think Joey will stay after the event. Maybe you two can have a drink together afterwards.”

Jinyoung could see the blush on her cheek and laughed.

“You’re free tonight, so enjoy it. From next week on you have university, and I told you already, JYP won’t go easily on you. Especially not after my recommendation letter.”

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Jinyoung and James got to the entrance in time and saw how the first cars arrived in front of the location.

Three teams of reporters had already placed themselves near them, taking pictures of the guests. Not even those people were questioning Jinyoung’s presence.

In his inconspicuous black suit, he just looked like an assistant next to James, who was wearing a baby-blue suit, with a white shirt and golden bowtie, the colours of JJJ Group. And Jinyoung’s outfit was on purpose. Except from the JJJ Group business partners, nobody knew the company’s CEO’s face. They just knew James. Jinyoung would just greet the guests with James, watching them and analysing them.

The first guests to arrive were Joey and a person, Jinyoung was looking forward to seeing.

It hasn’t been long since they’ve met, but who wouldn’t miss his best friends.

Jokwon looked great in his white suit, which was sewn with tiny little diamonds, and the pink bowtie. The reporters were excited to see the heir of Jo Group. His best friend had changed a lot, restraining from the public and building up his fashion company. His father hadn’t approved at first, but when Jokwon had found a way to merge his company with his father’s and rising the stocks, he had finally seen the great abilities of his son.

Not just that Jinyoung’s company had set the ground investments for his company, with James’ help Jokwon had gotten a smooth start in the States.

With Jokwon’s help Jinyoung had been able to cooperate in economical issues in Korea without being exposed. Also, Jokwon had bought up a big part of the stocks Jinyoung was owning now.

His best friend tried to hide his smile, but Jinyoung knew that Jokwon had a hard time pretending in front of the camera’s. He came up to James at first, giving him a hug.

“It’s been some time, James.”

“It’s a pleasure to see you again, Jokwon.”

“Mr Lennox, it is a pleasure.” Joey was shaking hands with James.

“Mr Tuan, the pleasure is on my side.”

Now Jinyoung had a hard time holding back his laughter.

Jinyoung bowed in front of Jokwon and Joey, then James lead them into the house.

The next guest were some more shareholders, which Jinyoung had to convince in the future. They weren’t really paying attention to Jinyoung. Mostly the females were really impressed by the handsome young English.

The first time Jinyoung got a little tense was when he saw Mr Chu walking down the red carpet. The older man was wearing a navy- blue suit, walking with such a confidence Jinyoung almost bowed down.

James, who had already met him, shook hands with the man.

“Mr Chu, it is a great pleasure to see you.”

The older man’s eyes fell on Jinyoung, and he bowed down.

“We are glad to welcome you to this event, Sir.” Jinyoung tried to hide his Busan dialect.

He was still eyeing Jinyoung, an almost invisible smile on his lips.

“Mr Lennox, may I ask who this young man is?” James turned around to Jinyoung, the “special” smile on his face. He didn’t know what he should say, but Jinyoung was prepared.

“I’m supporting Mr Lennox as he is welcoming the guests to JJJ Group’s opening event, Sir.”

Mr Chu nodded and proceeded.

The black Jeep that arrived next drew the reporters’ attention immediately. Although Jinyoung hadn’t seen the guests in the car yet, he already became nervous.

One man got out of the car, helping a woman out. The man was wearing a black suit with a plain red tie. The woman was wearing an azure dress with a white fur around her shoulder.

Jinyoung knew from all the news that they were always coming to events together, stirring the rumours about them dating even more. But Jinyoung was quite sure they would never date.

Jackson and Cassandra were talking to each other while walking down the red carpet. They just stopped, when James came toward them to greet them. Jinyoung stood behind.

“It’s a pleasure to welcome you at our event.” James’ voice was extra smooth.

“Thank you for the invitation.” Jackson’s voice was still the same, and it somehow sent chills down his spine.

James stepped aside, revealing the sight of me.

I bowed down.

“Thank you for attending our event. We’re glad to welcome you here.”

When Jinyoung looked up, he met Jackson’s and Cassandra’s widened eyes. They just stared at him, disbelief all over their faces.

“Jinyoung…” Cassandra whispered. She was already stepping forward, when James blocked her way.

“Please, this way. In the inside refreshing drinks and little appetizers are already waiting for you.”

They slowly made their way into the house but couldn’t stop turning back. James bent down to Jinyoung and whispered, “Are you okay?”.

He nodded.

Well, the guest lists didn’t mean it well with him. Just as he was about to relax another car arrived. The reporters were all on their cameras immediately, snapping pictures of the elderly woman and her assistant.

Unintentionally, Jinyoung stepped behind James, his hands shaking.

The seconds until they reached the door where the two of them stood, felt like an eternity. A cold shower was running down Jinyoung’s back when he heard her voice.

“Mr Lennox.”

“Lady Tuan, I’m glad to welcome you to our event.”

As usual, James stepped aside. Jinyoung was bowing his head.

“It is an honour to greet you to this event.”

As Jinyoung rose his head, the elderly woman’s eyes widened. Jinyoung noticed how she hadn’t changed at all during all those years. Still this face, this coldness in her eyes, and the lips pressed into a tight line.

“You!” She hissed and before anyone realised what was happening, she had already slapped Jinyoung across the face.

Her action triggered a storm of flash lights and her palm left a burning mark on Jinyoung’s cheek.

“You ugly wench! You destroyed my grandson’s life!” Before anything else happened, James was already between them, and some bodyguards where shielding Jinyoung.

Some reporters tried to approach them, but some other bodyguards were blocking their ways.

“Lady Tuan. I ask you to restrain from any other inappropriate behaviour. My bodyguards will lead you into the house now.”

“Get out of my way. I’m not one with him.” Her voice rose, almost so loud the reporters could hear her.

James stepped closer to the two of them, his voice was dangerous.

“I really think you should go inside now. Tuan company is already covering many news with scandals, and the more you act up now, the more it will destroy your reputation.”

Two men in suit almost grabbed both and lead them into the house. James turned around to Jinyoung, whose body was shaking.

He was biting his lip, trying to prevent his tears from coming. Jinyoung wasn’t scared, he was outraged.

“Are you okay? I’m sorry, I was inattentive and let her do this to you.”

Jinyoung shook his head, still unable to say anything.

“Go upstairs and prepare for your entrance. I will do this here alone now.”

Jinyoung his heels and practically ran up. He was thankful James was here and was managing the little crisis, that had erupted with this incident.

His sight was blurred when he staggered up the stairs. The door to the private rooms was already opened and Jonathan was waiting for him. He embraced Jinyoung and the latter was glad that his son didn’t see him like that.

“I’m so sorry Jinyoung… I should have been down there with you…” Jonathan tried to calm him down, but he just couldn’t stop the sobs. How could she humiliate him like that? What did she mean “destroyed her grandson’s life”?!

Heavy steps could be heard.

“Mr Park, should I remove those persons from the event?” Without looking up, Jinyoung knew it was his personal bodyguard.

“No, Richard. It’s okay. Leave them for now. We still need their attendance here.” Jonathan sent him away.  He patted the younger one’s back and caressed his hair.

“Jinyoung, please stop. I’m here for you. I will protect you from them.” He mumbled again and again.

Jinyoung stopped sobbing when he heard Noah from farther away.

“Daddy?”

Jinyoung freed himself from Jonathan’s arms and ran towards his son. He hugged him tightly, didn’t want Noah to see his swollen face.

“Baby, what are you doing here? Why aren’t you inside with Sherilyn?”

“I heard you outside. What is the matter Daddy?”

Jinyoung kissed his son’s cheek. The moment he had hugged his son he felt better.

“Nothing, baby. Daddy is just a little bit nervous.”

Noah looked at Jinyoung’s face and put his hand on the cheek, where Lady Tuan had just slapped him. The touch was calming his senses and stopped every negative feeling coming up his gut.

“Fighting, Daddy. Noah is so proud of you!” His son smiled at him. It was a sweet smile from this little person in front of him, but it felt like the sun was tearing up a dark and cloudy sky.

Tears welled up again and Jinyoung sniffed. A warm feeling came over him. And power. Strength. He had to be strong. Only if he was strong and wouldn’t let himself being humiliated, he could protect his children. Protect this little ball of happiness standing in front of him.

“Thank you, Baby.”

He was glad his son was by his side right now.

Sherilyn was outraged when she saw Jinyoung’s swollen and red face.

“How am I supposed to cover up this redness?!”

Jinyoung decided to take a cold shower to reduce the swelling in his face and ease his mind. When he came out and looked down on the garden, he already saw many guests outside. Half an hour more until he would step in front of them.

After Sherilyn helped his face with a little bit of make up he put on the made-to-measure suit in baby blue. Jonathan helped him with his bowtie. It was always like that.

“You will forever be stuck with me and a bowtie…” I sighted. He looked up from my neck and smiled.

“That is too great to be true.”

Jinyoung turned around to his son and presented him his clothes.

“What do you think?”

“You look very good, Daddy!” Jinyoung hugged his son once again, breathing in the scent of baby shampoo and powder.

“I love you, Noah. I’m away now. Stay here with Sherilyn, okay? I’ll be back as soon as I can.”

Noah gave his Daddy a kiss on the cheek.

“Bye, Daddy.”

Jonathan and Jinyoung made their ways to the second floor. From the living room in this floor there was a stair which led directly to the garden.

All the guests had gathered in the garden now, listened to James his short speech.

“I want to thank you all for coming. It is an honour for me to be the first to welcome you to JJJ Group’s first official event. But enough from me. Now, may I introduce you to the Chairman of JJJ Group. Mr Junior Park.”

James looked up to Jinyoung, who was walking down the stairs. Jinyoung smiled, as everyone turned around to him. He was blinded by the flash lights but felt the strong hand of Jonathan on his shoulder.

He made his way through the crowd and headed to James, who was waiting for him on the stage.

The crowd was whispering. When Jinyoung passed some females, he could hear “Wasn’t he the man from the entrance?” “I thought I was just an assistant from Mr Lennox.”

James gave him a broad smile, then taking over the position behind the podium.

He waited until the flashlights stopped. Then he looked around.

He saw Jackson an Cassandra standing in the middle of the crowd, looking up at him, and still in disbelief.

“Ladies and Gentlemen. It is an honour to welcome you all to JJJ Group’s opening event. Some of you may be surprised to see me here now. I want to apologise for not introducing myself to you properly at the front door. May I do it now? My name is Junior Park. I’m from Busan, Korea. I’m 24 years old and the Chairman of JJJ Group. I’m looking forward to work and get in contact with all of you. Being able to stand here and talk to you now, I want to thank all partners of JJJ Group, including my best friends Jonathan Walker and James Lennox, for supporting me until now.”

Jinyoung smiled into the crowd. His eyes were scanning them and when he met with her eyes , his smile got even wider.

She looked like she was about to faint, and a triumphant feeling overcame him.

“As the new candidate for the chairman position of Tuan Companies’ Hotel Group Korea I wish for good cooperation and collaboration with all of you. Today shall be a night, where we all get to know each other, eat and drink and chat happily. Thank you for your attention. If I may lead you to the dining room now.”
