Krystal's Pov
“What’s his story? I never see him talk to anyone?” I asked Ailee.
“Who?” she asked.
“Him in the wheelchair,” I said looking at him.
“Well first of all it’s not he,” she said.
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“Amber is very much a girl. Even if she doesn’t look like it.”
“Amber?” I questioned shocked.
“Yep. Take a minute to let it sink in. It takes a while for most girls to.”
“But?”
“No. I know you are probably disappointed right?” she asked.
“Not disappointed, just confused,” I answered.
“I went to high school with her. She was an absolute girl magnet. Very much a player, was dating a new girl every couple of weeks. Most of them were surprised to find out she was a girl like you. But they didn’t care. She was still drop dead gorgeous to them. Most of them didn’t even care that she wasn’t looking for a real relationship. They took whatever they could get from her. But this was all before her accident,” Ailee told me while we were waiting for class to start.
“Accident?”
“Yeah she wasn’t always in the wheelchair. Her junior year her and her brother got hit by a drunk driver on the way home from school. Her brother, Donghae, was driving and was killed on impact. She was in the passenger seat and was paralyzed from the waist down.”
“Oh my gosh. That’s so sad,” I said processing the new information.
“Yeah. Of course she took it hard. Donghae was her only sibling and they were really close. He was a year older than her. After it happened she isolated herself from everyone. Her friends tried to reach out to her but she was just angry all the time. She missed a lot of school. She had to repeat her junior year. That is how we got to be in the same class. Her friends just stopped trying after a while. Then our senior year they had all graduated and she never bothered to make new ones. She stopped dating, and just barely did enough to pass her classes. It’s just a really tragic thing. I mean she had a basketball scholarship lined up. So many schools wanted her, and USC wanted to give her a full ride. The accident took all that awa
