Dinner Party Disaster

______’s POV:

About a week later, when things got back to normal between Jaejoong and me, we were scheduled to go to a dinner party along with some other important people. This event was considered overly formal. In other words it was kind of required to dress up in a royal and rich fashion.

On Saturday night I came downstairs in a dress Mrs. Kim had recommended for me and looked down to find Jaejoong in a tux, with a purple tie and black dress shoes and everything.

He seriously looked like a supermodel out of some fashion magazine. I looked down at my dress and felt a little…out shined. But that didn’t seem to be the case for Jaejoong since he was practically gaping at me.

Jaejoong swallowed hard and finally managed a, “Let’s go.”

I nodded and followed him out the front door to his car.

When we arrived at the house where the dinner party was located, I immediately sensed something wrong.

“Jaejoong, whose house is this?” I asked.

Jaejoong took a deep breath before he answered. “Tiffany’s.”

            “WHAT?!”

“Look, I didn’t really want to go either. But my parents think that Tiffany’s a good person and her parents are throwing this huge party and they forced me to go. I really didn’t want to tell you,” Jaejoong explained.

I took a deep sigh and looked out the window. “Well, let’s just get it over with.”

When Jaejoong and I entered the house all eyes turned to us as we walked by.

“Wow…they look like a superstar couple.”

“I bet their baby will be the prettiest thing on earth.”

            “Man! I should’ve snagged ______ first!”

I felt Jaejoong tense up at that last comment and secretly smiled.

It was no sooner then that was when Jaejoong and I both spotted Tiffany. She was wearing a strapless white dress that perfectly showed her cleavage. The dress draped down to the ground and even had a tail of fabric in the back. Her make up was perfectly done and her hair perfectly curled. At that point, I really thought that Jaejoong would go ahead and ditch me to go up to her. But he didn’t.

When she spotted us she gave a smirk and walked up to us.

“Why, how nice it is to see you _______!” she unexpectedly hugged me, hard.

“Yah, get your dirty hands off of my wife,” Jaejoong said, prying me away from her. Thankfully too. “I am so not forgiving you for what you did to us last time.”

“Hey. You could’ve stayed and had dinner with me but instead chose to leave. The choice was yours,” Tiffany said, putting on a smile. Obviously hiding the fact that she was mad that her plan didn’t work that time.

Hopefully, Tiffany wouldn’t try to kill us tonight.

When dinner started Jaejoong and I took our seats. I wasn’t always a picky eater but the food that was being served looked a little…well…dead…

Sitting in front of me was a salad with strange looking fruit and a few pieces of unidentified meat. The dressing that went along on top of it also looked peculiar. And when I put it in my mouth to taste it and give this salad a chance, I tried so hard to not spit it out. I knew it was rude to leave a full plate of salad uneaten, so I tried my best to consume it all.

I drank about two glasses of water to get it all down and when I was happy that I was done, another sickening meal was served upon me. I can’t even manage to describe this one. Something with strange meat with unidentified veggies on the side? I don’t know, but after even a whiff of this stuff, I didn’t want to eat anymore. Especially after I was nice enough to finish the salad. So I devised a plan: I would carefully scoop the food into my napkin, which was on my lap when no one was looking. And when Jaejoong and I get home I could find something real to eat.

My plan was going pretty well, until I felt my dress getting wet. My eyes widened as I realized that my napkin was getting full. So when dessert was getting served (sardine sorbet :P), I excused myself to the bathroom and sneakily took my napkin load full of food with me.

What I didn’t know was that someone was following me…

When I got to the bathroom I flushed down the food and washed the napkin before throwing it into the trash bin. Luckily, they had the exact same replica of the napkins for guests to use as towels. So I took one of those and headed outside, back to the dinner. But when I opened the door, I found Tiffany standing in front of me.

“Why, look who it is,” Tiffany scoffed.

“What do you want?” I asked.

“You already know, don’t you?” Tiffany asked, arms crossed.

The truth was, I already did know.

“Whatever.” She looked at something or someone behind me. “Hold her still.”

I turned around to find about 3 big, strong looking guys. Then, at the sound of her command, they each grabbed one of my arms. They grabbed me so that I was between them and that I couldn’t move whatsoever. Like a single bead between a peace of strong string.

Suddenly, Tiffany came towards me, and kicked me in the stomach. Then she started throwing punches at my face. And before I knew it, she was practically abusing me.

It hurt. Real bad. And as much as I tried to break free from those guys, I couldn’t. They were too strong. I took punch after punch, kick after kick, and slap after slap. It hurt so bad that I started crying in pain. And finally, I found my voice.

“Tiffany! Tiffany, stop!” I cried through my sobs. “TIFFANY, STOP!”

But before I could yell out the one thing I wanted to all along, Tiffany slapped me across the face. The tears dropped uncontrollably.

“Jaejoong…” I said faintly. That was the one thing I wanted to cry out.

            “Drop her,” Tiffany suddenly commanded.

They guys did as they were told and I was dropped to the ground. It hurt even more as I hit the cold, hard marble floor. I could’ve ran away from her then, and get some help, but I was too weak. She had hurt me in too many places and I could barely crawl. I never knew that she would go to this extent…

And when she had told those guys to drop me I thought that it was finally over. But it wasn’t. I suddenly felt kicks in my stomach, my hair being pulled. I tried to fight back but as I tried to slap her across the face she stopped my hand and pulled it back. I seriously thought that she had broken it.

At that very point, I thought that I was going to die. I closed my eyes, waiting to see god, but instead, I heard a voice.

            His voice.

            “_______!”

I heard his footsteps run over to me. I felt him pick me up in his warm, strong arms. Only then did I finally feel safe. The one thing that had always made me feel at ease was his embrace.

“TIFFANY, WHAT THE DID YOU DO TO HER?!?!” Jaejoong yelled.

I still had some strength left in me to open my eyes. And when I did, I was so relieved to see Jaejoong’s beautiful face. I was so happy to see him that I started crying even further. I buried my face into his chest to prevent him from seeing.

“I-I-I DIDN’T DO IT!!” Tiffany claimed.

“Aish!” Jaejoong turned away from her and carried me out but I could barely see his face now because I was crying so hard. In both hurt and happiness.

As we passed the dining hall, I heard multiple gasps and “Oh, my god, what happened?”s And as more questions were spitted out Jaejoong turned around and said two words:

            “Ask Tiffany.”

When we were out of earshot was when Jaejoong finally decided to speak. “_______, are you alright? Can you breathe?”

I nodded, tears still in my eyes. My face was probably all red and splotchy. How embarrassing…

“I’m taking you to the hospital,” Jaejoong stated, finally reaching the front door.

            “N-No…” I managed.

“You have to. Tiffany could’ve beaten you to death! Why didn’t you do anything?”

“The guys…were holding me back…” I replied faintly.

            “Of course,” Jaejoong murmured.

When Jaejoong got to his car he gently let me down and I got into the front seat. Along the way to the hospital I could tell that Jaejoong had the urge to say something, but was holding back. When Jaejoong parked the car in front of the hospital, he turned off the engine and we just sat there. The two of us in his car, silent in the night. Then finally, he spoke up.

“______...” he started, “I was so worried…I should’ve…I should’ve realized that the both of you were missing sooner…” Jaejoong swallowed hard and I could see his eyes starting to turn red, a clear liquid overflowing from the brim of his eyes. The liquid floated from his eye down to his cheek, and then down onto the collar of his shirt.

            A tear.

I couldn’t believe it, Kim Jaejoong was crying. I had never ever seen him like this before. But I didn’t want to say anything. He was feeling bad as it was.

            “Jaejoong…it’s ok, don’t blame yourself…I should’ve been more careful,” I persisted.

“No. It’s not your fault. Don’t blame yourself.” Jaejoong sniffed a bit before regaining his composure.

“You know…it doesn’t hurt so badly anymore. The injuries might be minor. And I don’t want to go to the hospital because of Tiffany again,” I said, trying to brighten things up.

“Yeah…I don’t want to go back in there either,” Jaejoong agreed. He turned to me. “Do you want to get something to eat?”

            “Huh?”

“Don’t think that I didn’t see you sneak your food into your napkin.” Jaejoong grinned.

            “No, I wasn’t, I-

And as if my stomach was agreeing with him, it growled; loud.

            “Huh,” Jaejoong said.

            “Ok, maybe I am a little hungry…”

And with that, Jaejoong started the engine and drove us to the nearest McDonald’s. I had a little trouble getting out but I wasn’t like one of those girls in the dramas who go to the hospital after a small push, so I managed. My arm hurt a bit as I moved it, and I limped a small bit, and there were bruises on my face, but I was ok XD

When we went inside I ordered a cheeseburger and fries while Jaejoong did the same. It was fun eating in a fast food restaurant with him. Since all we ever do eat at is some expensive restaurant or some dinner party. He told me that he didn’t like the food served at the dinner party either and practically forced all of it down his throat. He also told me that he would’ve come to my rescue earlier, if it wasn’t for Tiffany’s dad asking him questions about how the hotel chain is doing. I think Mr. Hwang hasn’t gotten over the Tiffany and Jaejoong break up deal either…maybe another conspiracy, but who knows?

When we got home, Jaejoong voluntarily treated my bruises for me, which seemed very nice of him. It was kind of unusual, actually. And it felt like he was sympathizing me. Which made me feel kind of bad and useless.

“There, you’re done,” Jaejoong said as he closed the first aid kit.

I winced a little bit as I managed a, “Thanks.”

“No problem.” Jaejoong put the first aid kit back in the kitchen cabinet and followed me to the bottom of the stairs.

Great. How was I supposed to climb a flight of stairs?

Suddenly, Jaejoong sighed. “Get on my back,” he said tiredly.

            “Huh?”

“I’m only going to say it once. Now get on.”

I hesitated a little bit before getting onto his back and wrapping my arms around his neck. I actually pitied him because he had to take care of me all the time. I didn’t ask for it, but it sure did feel nice to see and feel the nice side of him every once in a while.

Jaejoong carried me all the way to my room. He set me down onto my bed and I got snuggled under the blankets and pulled it up to my chin.

Meanwhile, Jaejoong was closing my window’s blinds, and drew the curtains back. He can really be nice when he wants to.

“Jaejoong, it’s ok, I can do that by myself…” I said.

But Jaejoong already beat me to it as he closed my window and locked it shut.

“It’s ok…I want to do it,” Jaejoong replied.

“You know, you can be so nice when you want to be,” I said.

“Hey, that’s the awesome guy I am.” Jaejoong sat down on the side of my bed and gazed down at me.

“Are you sure you’re ok? Are you sure that you don’t need a check up on your bones?” Jaejoong asked, sounding concerned.

I nodded. “Yeah, I’m sure. Don’t worry about me.”

*How can I NOT worry about you?*

“Well…good night…” Jaejoong said. But he didn’t get off my bed.

“Good night,” I replied, keeping my eyes open.

Jaejoong started to get off, but then he again turned to me and leaned in, closer and closer. Until his lips landed on my forehead. His lips were warm, soft, and velvety against my skin, and after he got up, turned off my lamp, and closed my bedroom door…

            …I strangely craved for more.

            And so did Jaejoong.
