Without looking back, they tire of games

Mea Maxima Culpa

Without looking back Arc~

A/N - Wowee, finally we've reached the final arc! The 'without looking back' arc that symbolises how everyone is leaving their past regrets behind and moving forwards. Its the moment when they can set aside the burdens of their 'mean maxima culpas' and choose a happier future. For some, that future may be one spent with another person, for others it m be a solitary road. Either way, everything ends here and now. (or at least in another 13 chapters)

But first....back to Doongie!

@thunbii - Yay, thanks for believing in Ji-yun still! I promise that her story will be good! Haha, lol, and it seems that you can read my mind and exactly how my story seems to work. The two meet, a sweet moment and then more surprises!!! Await them, there'll be a big (?) surprise at the end of this chapter as well~~~

@Wookielove - Mmm I know, poor joonie. And don't worry, Ji-eunnie is always right *wink wink*

@ HanSang - I do too... It must be my dinner...jk jk. Buuut you'll find out soon! And joonie's happiness will come one day!!! Haha and true true, he's still a lil bit of a babo at the end of the day~ and hwaiting for your next exam!!! Hope the end soon~

@T4kara - Ahhh mine may be long but you have so many brilliant and different stories!!! Jeez, you must have been writing non stop for the last year or so! And here's doongie!!!

@Ainnurdoongie - hey sis! I know you ship just about everyone, so The main doongie ones were there!!! Haha and if I'm Ji-yun then shouldn't u be the one saving Doongie? And actually it's wierd. I've barely seen any Koop merchandise, let alone mblaq stuff T.T so sad. But I have been hearing loads of songs all over the place: Psy's gangnam style (loads of times), kara's pandora (its stuck in my head now) and BAP'S crush (yay!!!) haha, but I'm going to go look for a cd shop tomorrow to buy some stuff!!! If I'm lucky I'll find some cool Koop stuff~~~~ ahhh but all I've done so far is eat ice cream, donuts (there is a seriously large amount of donut stores. Like instead of McD every five steps, there's a donut or coffee store -.-) and drink coffee. Anyhoo I'll eat a donut in your honor unnie!

@Cazz_96 - Haha join the group of other haters!

@ImaVIPbaby - Haha I know, the ABS are to die for!!! Just had to put that pic in~~~ When I saw that pic, my reaction was exactly the same as yours! And you flatter me too much! Ah, no I don't have a British accent, but mine is definitely not Singaporean either. It's a weird mix of British and American and is something totally unnameable but eas recognisable. So i the stores in SG that I go to a lot, the storekeepers recognise me just by my voice. Haha, even over the phone it works! Haha and yeah, I've been called Korean but I just wish I could speak the language and like... mrry Doongie. My new life's goal!

Chapter 47 – Without looking back, they tire of games

Cheondoong POV

I woke up with a gasp of pain, momentarily at loss of where I am or who I was.

Then the dull throb in my abdomen reminded me, the pain an anchor to my sea of near-madness. How should I say it? It was like…an alarm clock; the irritating yet unrelenting lure that drags you out of the blissful blackness of dreams and into the bright lights of reality. I groaned and shook my head like a wet dog breaching surface.

I lay on the lumpy sofa for an hour, using the pulsating throbs in my ribs as a method of counting the seconds instead of the broken clock that lay askew against the strained and yellow wallpaper.

One, two, three… I closed my eyes and tried to remember the blur of the last three days, the memory a slur of colors and shadowy movements like that of an alcohol induced dream. The after-effects of too many cocktails of cranberry and vodka and soju and beer taking its toll on a person’s frail limit so that the world spun around in a vortex of lurid purples and greens, blacks and blues before finally short-circuiting in a flash of silver to leave me floating.

Twenty four, twenty five, twenty six… I opened my eyes, hoping in vain to rid myself of the memory of his and her figures standing over me with very different expressions plastered on their faces. One of anger, annoyance, cruelty. The other of coldness, loneliness, regret. But their faces continued to shape themselves behind my eyelids like persistent flies that would not leave the rotten slab of meat.

Seventy three, seventy four, seventy five… I closed my eyes again, tiredness overcoming me and weariness of fate surpassing me.

Eighty seven eighty eight, eighty nine… I wanted to cry as I drifted off to sleep again, knowing for certain that the memories would plague my nightmares again like a broken record spinning again and again for all of eternity, its twisted soundtrack there to torture me.

One hundred… And then time rewound and I remembered the hazy details of my past catching up to me.

Three days ago…

The car halted roughly, jerking Sanghyun out of his fidgety doze. A calloused hand picked him up again, treating him like a sack of wheat rather than a human being, and throwing him over one shoulder.

Four heavy steps and then a door was thrown open. Another five sharper sounding steps, the sound reverberating like plastic upon wood, and then Sanghyun was thrown down onto a lumpy sofa. Like everything in the house, it seemed to be designed to ensure his utmost lack of comfort for the bumps probed his bruised back and refused to let him sleep comfortably. The drop knocked the air out of his lungs.

“Stop pretending.” Go Ji Young spoke harshly, evidently having heard Sanghyun’s unavoidable exclamation of discomfort.

So Sanghyun cracked his eyes open and turned his stiff neck to look at the Syndicate leader who sat carelessly on the coffee table, shoulders loose and legs spread apart. His entire body spoke volumes of his confidence and of his short temper.

“What?” Sanghyun spat defiantly.

Go Ji Young laughed appreciatively. “Still got fire in you, huh, kid.”

Sanghyun just rolled his eyes. It was all his battered body could handle.

“So kid,” Go Ji Young smirked. “You’re a real piece of art aren’t you?”

Sanghyun raised his eyebrows. “Tell me something new.” He scoffed, trying to appear tough in the middle of enemy territory even though behind his steel shield he was weakening, his fortifications slowly falling and his frontlines slowly being pushed back.

“Let’s see.” Go Ji Young raised one hand. “You’ve thwarted my criminal plot,” he raised one finger. “You’ve harmed my gang’s reputation,” he raised another finger. “You destroyed my property,” he raised a third finger and one eyebrow arched, revealing his swirling anger at having his phone destroyed. “And finally, you had the audacity to lay a hand on me.”

Go Ji Young stood up and pulled out a wicked looking knife. Sanghyun tried not shiver but his mouth went dry as he watched the afternoon light gleam off the edge of the silvery blade. Go Ji Young grinned wolfishly and started filing his nails with the knife.

“Pathetic aren’t we?” Sanghyun said mockingly, but the strength was tainted by an edge of fear. “All it takes is one twenty-year-old guy to say ‘go away’ and you start shaking?”

Go Ji Young froze and spun the knife in his hand. “Do you really want to play games, Sanghyunnie.” His wide eyes said he was messing around anymore.

Sanghyun gulped. “Don’t blame me that you’re too much of a delicate flower to deal with rebellious kids.” He said mockingly, trying to tuck down the panic as Go Ji Young took one step forwards.”

“Me? Delicate?” Go Ji Young gave a rough laugh. “Shall I show you how delicate I can be?” he leaned forwards and pressed the edge of the blade to Sanghyun’s  throat and Sanghyun swallowed, his adam’s apple bobbing against cold steel. The Syndicate leader continued to press and Sanghyun felt his heart racing.

“Stop.” A cool voice interrupted them.

Go Ji Young pulled backward, removing the knife and letting Sanghyun sink back onto the bed. “Why?” he snarled.

“Don’t kill him yet,” the voice was definitely feminine. “I want him alive. Until I can kill him properly – slowly and with pleasure.”

Go Ji Young sighed. “Very well, dear.” He walked over to the woman and pressed a chaste kiss to her cheek. “For you.”

Then he jerked his head to some lackey. “You,” he ordered. “Bandage the kid, make sure he doesn’t die. Call in the doctor if need be, but make sure he doesn’t escape. I want him alive, but he’s not in a five star hotel. Got it.”

The lackey nodded quickly, bowed and then retreated to follow his orders.

Sanghyun stared dizzily at the woman standing next to Go Ji Young, one arm wrapped around his waist. It was too much for him and the culminating events of the day crashed down on him like a tidal wave. The exhausting fight with Go Ji Young that had left him pummeled and sore, the bullet wound that had miraculously passed right through him but still stung like hell, and now her.

Sanghyun felt his eyes close, but her face haunted him into his dreams.

Present time…

“Stop hiding, Ji-yun.” I demanded in an exhausted voice, the lack of sleep from the last three days catching up to me. It had been a miracle that I hadn’t fainted or died of blood loss, but only now did I realize it was probably because she had been staunching the blood with thick cloths so that I could survive and die at her own volition.

“As you wish Sanghyun.” She said in that cool voice, a huge change from the voice I remembered so vividly. “Tired of playing games?” she asked mockingly.

“I’ve had enough games in the past month to last me the rest of my life.” I said bitterly.

She sat down on the arm of the sofa, planting herself right in my line of sight so that I was unavoidable for me to not see her face.

“What do you want, Ji-yun?” I couldn’t help but get to the point, tired of playing hide and seek in the maze of mirrors where I would reach out with one hand to touch her, only to find it was a mere reflection of the truth.

“I want to talk.” She whispered.

“About what?” I didn’t care how brusque my tone was. I was too weary. What she had done this time, aligning herself with Go Ji Young and the Syndicate, choosing them over us had been the final straw. I had forgiven her before when she was a lonely fifteen-year-old, just another girl in the world who wanted love and acceptance. There had been dark nights when I had lain in bed, cursing her and then realizing it wasn’t her fault but mine.

However this time, the blame was unmistakable.  “Perhaps,” I hissed, knowing my voice was sneering and cold, but uncaring of it. “You’re going to tell me why you’re with that man and aiding him in his petty little crime tricks to take photos of your sister,” I watched her flinch and turn pale at my words, each one driving into her like a carefully placed knife. “Which he was going to sell online and make money, all the whilst through blackmailing me?”

I shut my eyes, not wanting to see her face as she replied.

Ji-yun swallowed, evidently taking effort to do and then spoke in a shaky voice. “Because Sanghyun,” she said quietly. “I messed up.”

And it was then that I heard true, honest, pain-ripping guilt in her voice that made me open my eyes and watch tears fall from her eyes.

“I messed up.” She sobbed, letting crystal drops roll onto my cheeks and down onto the god-awful coach. “I messed up bad.”

I didn’t need to speak. Ji-yun told me the answer anyway.

“You see Sanghyun,” she brushed tears aside and stared deeply into my eyes. “I’m going to die.”

A/N - drum roll please! Let me know what you think of Ji-yun's confession! Comment~~~~ And so we have more Doongie time! Next chapter we'll delve into Ji-yun's backstory and what happened between the last time Sanghyun saw her and now! Await it~~~

Finally, recommendation of the day is Like Honey by moonriver . It's a super sweet one shot of sanghyunxjieun. Trust me so fluffy I almost felt like I was floating! Pure sweetness~~~ until tomorrow!
